You won by a TD. After trailing for most of the game, not to mention, an outrageously DUMB call by the refs played a HUGE part in the outcome. Also, the reason Eugene started the first game against ASU is because Hymes had been benched (or moved to WR) for poor play.

That is true........but Doug did a masterful job of getting Hymes attention and making him refocus. I think many people discounted the great job Doug did at Grambling in so many facets of the game (that AD at Gram was a real dummy).

All I read in this thread is that the SWAC is watered down. Well, weather you feel that way or you don't the bottom line is that it is still the SWAC. Still the same schools (basically) doing the same things. So in fairness, all you can do is measure a guy by his body of work.

McNair was the total package and has proved his worth by the longevity of his career as a starter in the league. Most of us on this board watched the man play (62-56 game in Grambling 1993) and he wowed us all.

Doug Williams was the ultimate leader and winner. Doug being Doug just happened to tarnish him a bit but bottom line. Best winner SWAC has ever had

Eugene is the best pure passer in SWAC history in my opinion. The guy can throw the got dam* ball regardless of his height or his weight. His stats, his championships, and his value to the team (see 2004 record without him) are all undeniable. The boy is a great quarterback. One of the top 3 the SWAC has ever seen.

Let's see.. ICON/Grambling was 7-0 going into the Bama st. game. 5 of those on the road. Yeah he needed to refocus.

the 2 games before ASU whooped gram

against JSU--- Hymes was 12-32
against TxSou--Hymes was 1 -7, with 3 interceptions

Doug was the coach and did not like the way he was playing. Doug knows more about football than you do. :lol:
 
Hymes was a thrower and Bruce is a passer! Randy Hymes was a helluva athlete who could throw the long ball with good touch. BUT he failed horribly making good reads and throwing the short to intermediate stuff. I saw a lot of balls skip on the ground when Levi Washington and others were wide open.

Doug realized that Bruce was a better passer and that Randy would be a serious matchup to folk playing wide receiver.
 
I think Bruce has a better ARM than Randy but Randy just commanded respect on the field. I never looked at Bruce on the field and thought... we need to keep this mofo off the field. I had that feeling whenever I saw Randy, though.

MB, I don't know about randy having touch :lmao: :lmao: I love rnady to death but randy had no touch. I remember goin to the jstate in 00 and sitting infront of the mafia and suge( before they knew who i was ) and everyne around me was saying the same thing when randy would throw dep that he had no touch on the deep ball. Bruce has superior touch to any qb i have ever seen. Randy had a live arm but no touch. The bc was when we really sa the touch from randy show. I see it form bruce every practice and every game.

JAG4LIFE, You are right. When randy was playing i never was scared when he was on the field. I knew he would make some happen it was not no interception either. Randy was an athlete playing qb but he commanded so much respect it aint even funny. Eugene has teh respect but no where near the same thign as randy had. WHEN YOU TAKE HITS AND STAND IN THe POCKET AND DELIVER THE BALL INSTEAD OF THROWING OFF YOUR BACK FOOT AND GET UP AND BLAST YOUR OLINE TO HELL . YOU ARE A LEADER . The thing that so many people forgot is the wealth of experience and breadth of knowledge that Doug had in his discipline. The loss of Doug was a big blow for BCF.

Uh Joe Montana also could run and throw with pin point accuracy. Not to mention that he came out in an era of smaller Qbs. Nobody said you had to be like Big Ben, Carson Palmer, Mcnabb, Culpepper, Mc nair and others back then. Now it is a requirement almost. Of course Joe had no real weight issues. Probably needed to eat to gain some. They thought he was too skinny coming out of ND. If Bruce was 6'3 and 220 he would get a better look. Look at the Saints taking a chance on McPherson from Fla State. If that kid wasn't 6'5 and had athletic ability they would have passed. Bruce is a way better passer than that kid. But size and athleticism rules these days.



I am rooting for Bruce. But the odds are against him big time. All I have to say is look at how the NFL is drafting these days. Heck even ole Joe Montana would have went from a 3rd rounder then to probably 7th round or undrafted. Well maybe not, he did play at Notre Dame. But you see what I am saying.

You know damn well SU folk in charge will not hire Doug. I personally don't have any problem with Doug. Good person to chat with off the field. But you live in BR and you know the politics will not allow that to happen. I am sure soon as Pete's contract is up in 2 years after this season then ole Doug will throw his hat in the ring. But so will alot of folk. That is the one big positive about paying a good salary. We can now look at a good 1A assistant to replace Pete if need be. Just got to get them damn facilities taken care of.

And if he put his name in the hat, he would be the biggest Benedict Arnold in the history of Grambling State University that would be almost as bad as coach Ponton asking for the SU basketball job...
