Kentucky's old QB is in the league. I think Bruce is better than him..... It wouldn't be about size, but about race and what level he came from.

Yeah Jared Lorenzen. But he is also 6'6. It aint just Bruce's weight it is also a combo with his height. If Bruce was 6'3 or 6'4. The scouts would be drooling and the NFL teams would just put him on a real diet. Leftwich aint small either and not chiseled by any means. But he is 6-5. So it aint a race thing.

If you are a short Qb you better have Vick like speed. All these Qbs are getting taller and taller. Vick is one the shortest starting Qbs in the league. So even if you are white, you better have some height. LOL

McNair had some helluva WR's. Anytime you can just throw it up for grabs and they can go get it you can't tell me he didn't have good guys around him. McNaairs legs were really his heroics. If you really look at his game and how he got his passing yards by flinging it up there he was close to a one dimensional player. Without his mobility we wouldn't be talking about McNair right now. The thing that is hurting him now is the fact that he isn't a pocket passer and that he has relized you can't run your way through an NFL career as a QB. You've got to be able to stand in that pocket. Vick is learning how to do it better. Doug, Bruce, Shack, Totten, Kent, Randall, and Richard could do that. So, McNair was not a team himself, but he did have something special. He could put on a show, a show that will not be seen again for some time.

That is the problem now too many tall qb's that can't throw.

1. Doug Williams: He would have easily been higher in the statistics if he didn't play in the best era for SWAC talent. He faced tough competition. Best drop back, pro-style passer in the SWAC.

2. Steve McNair: The greatest run, pass threat the SWAC has ever seen. His passing stats rank him first and he was an even bigger threat when scrambling out of the pocket.

3. Willie Totten: Had a great arm. Could throw the deep ball and was the perfect QB for a wide-open offense.

4. James Harris: He started it all. Can't leave out the pioneer.

5. Robert Kent/Darnell Kennedy: Don't sleep on these guys. Kent was raw but his talent led him to become a strong passer. Kennedy was a smart QB, small but had a lot of heart.

6. Fred McNair: Yes. Yes. I know he doesn't rank high on the stats. But you would have just had to watch him to know he was Air McNair before his brother came along. Very underrated.

Overated: Eric Randle, 56 TD, 53 INT, nuff said.
Donald Carrie not a bad QB but he ranks ahead of Doug Williams on the stats, but far behind in talent.

So are you saying that there have never been any whit QB's Eugene's height? Or, white QB's can be any size, but black QB's have to have height and something special to be considered? So, if it isn't a race thing, then what kind of thing is it?

I will agree with you on that. Alot of them do have bad mechanics. But since the O and D- Lineman have gotten so big and fast. I guess the NFL figures you need a big strong Qb to take the punishment and see over the line. Joe Montana is the greatest Qb of all time in my mind and he was just 6 foot or 6'1. But these days I would be worried for his health. Heck he took enough hits when he played. LOL.

But no one is really answering the question, is he really that good or has the SWAC been on spiraling talent level diminish since the big white schools have been paying for players???

I agree it seems like there has been a war on black quaterbacks especially since the McNabb and Limbugh issue. I think that our conference need to make more effort to get our names out there too I wish there was a Bowl Championship series for the 1AA schools too we need to start beating on these white 1AA schools to get our name out there. What do you think ?

THANK YOU !!!!!!!!

Our schools need to make more of an effort in preparing our qbs for the league. Instead of these 4& 5 wide offenses how about in the fourth qtr when our teams are up let's go pro set and or three rec set and let our qbs actually make some decisions. Eugene has a shot like anybody else but it aint like he playing in the sec either. He has to beat these 1aa folks and he has not. I has seen plenty of great teams in swac but very few beat these pec's when giving the chance. THese scouts see this and the competition argument comes up again. That is why WE need to beat these pwcs and our high profile stars need to shine. I want eugene to make it badder than anyone else but reality is reality. A BUNCH OF YARDS AND NO BIG WINS IS EXACTLY WHAT IT IS !!!!!! When we start pimpslipping these pws and our stars start showing out in these games on a regular basis things willl change but if they are lik ethey are now the folks who normally gets folks drafted will do so and everyone else will just have a team full of stars and stats that dominate the swac only!!!!!!!

WE NEED TO START BEATING THESE PWC'S FOR THE GOOD OF THE CONFERENCE AND FOR THE GOOD OF OUR NFL HOPEFULS !!!!!!!!!

NOTE: I AM IN NO WAY TRYING TO DISREGARD ANY PLAYER ESPECIALLY NOT EUGENE'S TALENT OR DRIVE BUT THIS IS REALITY.

TO ANYONE READING THIS PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY !!!!!!!!!

I AM JUST TIRED OF SEEING ALL THESE STARS NOT GET DRAFTED :shame: :shame: :shame: :shame: :shame: :shame: :shame: :shame:

It isn't about never. It is about now. Name me a starting Qb in the NFL outside Michael Vick that is jus 6'0 feet? And no it isn't a race thing anymore. The media makes more out of a black Qb than the teams do now. Look at all the black Qbs starting.

Byron Leftwich 6'5
Donovan McNabb 6'4
Daunte Culpepper 6'5 (obviously before injury)
Michael Vick 6'0
Aaron Brooks 6'4
Anthony Wright (even though he is due to injury) 6'2
Steve Mc Nair 6'3

Notice Vick is the shortest of that group.

Now lets look at the rest of the NFL startting Qbs

Tom Brady- 6'3 New England
Gus Ferotte- 6'3 Miami
Kelly Holcomb 6-2 Buffalo
Chad Pennington(hurt) 6'4 NY Jets
Carson Palmer 6'5 Cincy Bengals
Trent Dilfer 6'4 Cleveland
Ben Rothleisberger 6'5 Pittsburgh
Kyle Boller (hurt) 6'3 Baltimore
David Carr 6''3 Houston
Peyton Manning 6'5 Indy
Jake Plummer 6'2 Denver
Trent Green 6'3 KC
Kerry Collins 6'5 Oakland
Drew Brees 6'1 SD
Drew Bledsoe 6'5 Dallas
Eli Manning 6'4 NY Giants
Mark Brunell 6'1 Washington
Kyle Orton 6'4 Bears
Brett Favre 6'4 Green Bay
Joey Harrington 6'4 Detroit Jeff Garcia 6' 0 Detroit
Brian Griese 6'3 and Chris Simms 6'4 Tampa Bay
Jake Delhomme 6'2 Carolina
Kurt Warner 6'2 and Josh McCown 6'4 Arizona
Matt Hasselbeck 6'4 Seattle
Marc Bulger 6'3 St. Louis
Alex Smith 6'4 49ers

Now where do you see a race thing. Only a few white Qbs are under 6'2. Very few. Brunell was drafted years ago and could move. So was Jake Plummer. Only Brees who ironically got drafted with Vick that year is the youngest smaller Qb. But even Brees is mobile. The NFL wants tall, big armed and very mobile Qbs. They want what a Vince Young brings to the table. Bruce may be a better passer than Young. But Young can change a game with his arm or feet. Not to mention he won't have balls batted down. Another thing that is going to hurt Bruce is that knee. Teams seem to shy away from skill position players that had knee issues. See Jason White of Oklahoma. BTW he is a white QB. The black Qb to watch coming out of college this year if Vince Young doesn't will be Omar Jacobs of Bowling Green. The NFL seems to like those MAC qbs know since Leftwich, Pennington, Big Ben and last draft Cleveland took Charlie Fyre from Akron who by the way is 6'4.

Now that a black kid can play Qb at the white schools then that has hurt us too. We are getting the undersized kid or not so highly recruited kid and last but not least, the kid that has grade/test score issues. That has hurt our programs. Also the skill position kids can go to SEC and Big 10 schools. The offenses back in the day were 3 yards and a cloud of dust. Now all the conferences have high powered offenses. So that hurt. Conferences like the MAC have emerged as NFL draft favorites. D-nice and I talk all the time how folks sleep on that conference. Go check on NFL rosters and find out how many come from there. A bunch.

I remember we went to play the real jstate in 2001 right after they just scored 58 points against asu. This was a big game for both schools. I look over at where the lockerooms were and who is playing catch with doug's son but randy hymes not even knowing how big the game is.He was never scared. He should have went to the hospital after the louisville game. He asked for no treatment at all. He was a leader. IF he got hit at all he let his oline have it. Rec who he was cool with got blasted in games when they ran the wrong routes. Bruce will always have the numbers but he does not have the BIG WINS RANDY DOES. I wish bruce would have that game the folks say wow he is a baller. Piling up yards in the fourth qtr will look good in the books but who have you beaten.

What big wins does Randy Hymes have? The only one I know of is the Portland State game.

Bruce Eugene is a better than average quarterback playing in a watered-down SWAC. Can anyone honestly say that he ranks among the SWAC's best McNair, Totten, and Doug Williams. The stats suggest he does but our eyes can't fool us. The talent level in the SWAC is obviously not what it once was. If you don't believe me, just look at the number of players the SWAC once sent to the pros and the number we sent last year.

How long has the SWAC been watered-down?

Those heights are way off.

So the NFL is lying? I didn't make those heights up. Go to NFL.com and look for yourself. So tell me how you know they are way off? I just saw Brad Johnson face to face up here on Monday night and he is every bit of that 6'5 they list him. So is Daunte. Unlike the NBA who lies about the heights. The NFL is pretty accurate. That's why they broadcast the combines and show the actual measurements. Now our colleges are the ones who lie in the press guide. Then the NFL finds out. LOL

None of them were 6'0 260.

Hey I have met Brett before. He is bigger than 6'2. As a matter of fact most folks up here are like that aint a right assesment of Brett. BTW, when was Brett drafted? Before the onslaught of big 6'5 Qbs.

Mach I see you like to nit pick. One cat listed wrong is not the whole list.

FAMU _ STARTING THE REBIRTH OF GRAM FOOTBALL THAT EUGENE ENJOYS RIGHT NOW. NEVRMIND THAT FAMU WAS RANKED #3 IN NATION IN 1AA POLLS.

NICHOLLS - DOWN 12-0 AFTER EUGENE STARTS.. ON THE ROAD AT THAT. RANDY LED THE TEAM FROM BEHIND

PORTLAND STATE - 57 SECONDS AND RANDY WAS A LEGEND !!!!!!!! DID I MENTION ON THE ROAD AGAIN !!!!!!!!

MACH, THIS WAS JUST THE OOC WINS !!!!!! ALL OF THEM WERE ON THE ROAD TOO !!!!!!!

IF THAT IS NOT ENOUGH FOR YOU THEN LET'S GO SWAC NOW ..

AAMU - SCG AGAINST A VERY GOOD DEFENSE WITH NO RUNNING GAME ON OUR SIDE. HE WINS THE FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE REBIRTH OF GRAM FOOTBALL AS EUGENE ENJOYS NOW!!!!!

ASU- SCG !!! OUT OF A LL THE CHAMPIONSHIP YEARS THIS WAS THE HARDEST TEAM WE PLAYED. THE ASU TEAM HAD WHIPPED OUR BEAT IN SEASON ADN WHO WAS THE QB FOR US IN THAT GAME (EUGENE ) RANDY PLAYED IN THE SCG AND HE LED THE TEAM TO THE WIN EASILY.

SU- MACH I KNOW YOU DON'T LIKE THIS ONE CAUSE OF CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES BUT RANDY BEAT SU LIKE THEY STOLE SOMETHIN IN THE FIRST QTR UNTIL THE FOOTBALL GODS HAD MERCY ON SU!!!!!!!!
RANDY GETS HURT IN THE BC AND STILL COMES BACK TO WIN THE SCG!!

SIDENOTE: IF IT WERE NOT FOR A BRAIN CRAMP IN THE COACHING BOOTH RANDY WOULD HAVE 2 BC WINS !!!!! (THANKS DOUG/SPEARS :wavey: :wavey: )

I can't give you an exact year, but from 1998-2003 the SWAC had 18 NFL Draft picks. 3 in 1998, 3 in 1999, 8 in 2000. That's 14. But since 2000 the SWAC has struggled to get even one player drafted. In 2004 and 2005, the SWAC has had one player each year and both were in the 7th round. I predict the same this year.

For the stats click here

I agree with this. The proof will be how he does at the combines and the NFL workouts...because, like it or not, NFL viability is the measuring stick.

6'1", 260

This will be his biggest problem.

Good thread...........Glad I got you all to consider the height of QB(s).

BTW........Brugene may not be facing the best comp but............That kid can chunk the pigskin with a beautiful long ball touch. And when he is on he can do BIG time damage.

He broke the BC streak Mach.

Now on the SMACK board we can jaw jab but in reality, that streak was huge. To be the QB that broke the streak and beat Portland St along the way means something.
