Breaking News on Dowell Taylor

Sit down TP. Taylor is good folks and a helluva Director. I only wish he had stayed the band director through the 90s instead of stepping down after the Motown 30 deal. He was in his prime then.

Man dont listen to TP JR, we (myself and other Boom alumni) love what Taylor has done in the 3 years as Head band director...he came in and surrounded himself with young assistants to assist him with the program... If he hires this next guy (that alum from 2000 on up wants to be an assistant director) the Boom will be unstoppable! I think Taylor is GREAT...The Boom successfully did Tiger-Run On from both sides of the field thats something Doc dreamed of and he had the band size to do it in our era...

The future is bright for the Boom....

I think TP loves Taylor for cleaning up the boom and the sound ect... Where he and maybe some of us agree is that Taylor lacked that killer instinct. I think it time to do some shows without some of the Boom Staples. Not all the shows but change it up for audiences that see you each year. IE the SHC , the alcorn game, ect...Rocks the house does not have to end each show in my opinion. Just change it up. And all those show draining features in the Honda...Oh well

Probably better for yall to give it to Little. O'Neill is old school and has too much SU and Norfolk State in him probably for the liking of JSU folks. TP would really be mad if that happened.

The BOOM would totally suck under that dude. Meyers will have the final say. However, I think she respects Taylor enough to honor his wish IF he wants Little to have it. Wonder if dude at Valley still wants it.

The band/ band director is exactly like a team/coach they take on the attitude of the leader...Taylor is very laid back very classy type...Those bully Sonic Boom bands were due to Doc and Magrudar leadership....

Taylor fieldshows were a drastic improvement from previous years under Liddell era... Everybody wants change but theres no guarantee that the change will be good...2014 was a great year for the Boom...

No doubt. Liddell had gotten real sloppy with the boom. From uniforms to field shows. Taylor cleaned all that up and then some he just lacks that aggressiveness we'd grown accustom too. Would I take Doc back over Taylor. Heck no...

Dude that Flight been in my head since yesterday for some reason. and I have not watched the video since the Bama State game..LOL

As Band Director at Kentucky State, Taylor was in his 20's! I think Taylor's birthday is in August? When he came to JSU in July 1984, Taylor was 29![/B} I'm done with this age thing!

You are correct!!! Matter of fact, some of us brothers who were there when he arrived were talking about the fact of how we thought he was sooooo old then and he wasn't even 30 yet! How we thought he was some old man and he was actually younger than we are now!!

The Boom will be in good hands with Rod Little as Band Director!

Yep from my understanding that was the plan all of the time....He was going to stay for 5 years and then literally pass the baton. Guess he felt he was ready sooner....

But Little or Hollinger...we'll be just fine....

I forgot about Hollinger....

That was Renardo R. Murray not Liddell. The Boom under Murray was sloppier than “Sloppy Joes” and more thuggish than a “Street Thug”. Liddell tried to right the ship after Murray left. Taylor righted the ship and brought a well disciplined, precision driven and a conservative Boom back, like it was under William Davis and Harold Haughton.

Other bands could out dance the Boom under Taylor, but none could out play or out march the Boom!

Both of them are great guys and have their own special talents to lead the Boom....

Taylors bands look GREAT but I would love for them to try to do a Haughton show! That would turn Memorial out! I loved the BOOMs style back then. That video of them at Alcorn back in the day is classic. heck, they could just do that same show.

In the voice of Crit, "did you march"? I didn't march either!

Nope but I know everything about everything. Also, the shows are not for people who marched. I'm sure 90%+ of the audience didn't march. So do you have a point? Didn't think so.

...and don't follow the example of a woman when engaging in an argument. Sometimes they just have to find something to say when they have "ran out"... even if it makes no sense.. i.e. "Did you march?" when you are playing a non-marching audience. You went to JSU. You are certainly smarter than this.

These kids today don't get hype doing the old stuff TP. We just marched in a different music era and we had a lot more band dedication instilled in us by any means necessary. LOL. Bands were on roids so to speak then. Those old head band directors were just tough. They hazed you themselves. Hell Haughton could sing One in a Million like he did back then and get house. LOL. Haughton was underated as a band director. Dude was thorough. That was the Boom I grew up on. But I faced the Taylor led Boom head to head. Bands were Bands then. Just a different kind of kid. They get off on battles in the stands. For us it was halftime. We didn't have many to tempt to battle us in the stands anyway due to our volume and book. Maybe the Tenn State and FAMU. In the SWAC really only the Ocean would battle hard in the stands all night. If you lost halftime. You lost the battle period. The stands could not save you.

Say Bruh? Whats Happening? Not trying to hijack this thread; my hats off to Dowell Taylor, much respect for him. I was glad he took over, and I hate to see him step down.

But look; what era do you think the stand battles phenomenal start collectively? And I absolutely agree with you on SU, Tenn State & FAMU being stand savvy back in the day (80's); but yea, halftime was always the focus and determined who won. During my time at A&M it was always halftime that was the focus; we never did the stands (5th Qtr) battle. The only thing you got from us in the 5th Qtr was the school song, and we would play the entire halftime show (dance routine included lol) from beginning to end for the fans that missed the halftime show. After that, deuces, we marching out. I don't think A&M did 5th Qtr's until the SWAC days; or maybe a couple of years before. I'm not sure.

Hey man I like Liddell he gave me a scholarship to the Boom. Never marched but there were times during Liddell where the lines were crooked, and band Members had on non uniform pants and make shift uniforms...

TP doesnt understand its a different time now....

True.. but I hope it's true.. LOL Im about tired of Taylor.

wow dude :shame:

Halftime was always the focus at Alcorn. Glad to see SOD getting back to that as well. the SHOW reigns supreme in my book

That's cool. I hope Little learned a lot from Taylor. He has the band looking and sounding good! The band has just got boring.

Evidently, you don't know who Taylor really is; however, you do have the right to express your NEGATIVE concerns about a true living "LEGEND". LOL.

i know exactly who Taylor is. I saw Taylor shows LIVE the first time around. You might be late. But the Taylor then is NOT the Taylor now. ..on the entertainment end. You negros know dayum well what Im talkin about. I LOVE that he has us drilling good and sounding good. The shows are just boring as hell. ..and it may not be his fault. Maybe Meyers asked him to tone the BOOM down a notch. :noidea:
