Breaking News About Silver Dollar Classic!

A $50,000 deposit was required, 10 times more than the year before. The new criteria included a $2 million letter of credit, television contract, commitment letters from sponsors, an advertising and marketing plan, and reference letters from the competing conferences and universities' presidents.

WHY IS A TV CONTRACT A REQUIREMENT. THE AIM OF THE PROMOTER IS TO GET PEOPLE IN THE STADIUM, NOT FOR PEOPLE TO WATCH IT ON TV. IF A NETWORK WANTS IN ON THE CLASSIC, THEN THEY APPROACH THE PROMOTER. TV COVERAGE IS GOOD BUT SHOULDN'T BE A REQUIREMENT FOR BEING ABLE TO PROMOTE THE GAME. IF YOU ARE A FIRST TIME PROMOTER....WHAT GOOD WOULD A REFERENCE LETTER FROM THE CONFERENCES AND PRESIDENTS REALLY ACCOMPLISH??? BUSINESS IS BUSINESS...BUT THIS IS THE GOOD OLD BOY NETWORK AT IT'S FINEST.

MACHIAVELLI:

Exactly.

Da-Sperm:

"Fair", "ethics", whatever, its neither of these if the criteria for one is different for one than it is for the others. As long as we show acceptance of these practices by condoning them through support of them, we leave ourselves at risk to be victims again.

This is the same kind of practice that caused black land-owners to lose valuable real-estate and other assets in the not so distance past. Same song, different arrangement. We best remember lest we forget and live history all over again.

Back to Classics: I'm at a point where I question the need for our alumni to travel all over the country to give money to other cities; especially, like I said before, if we could give it directly to the schools instead. The direct donation is no more than paying for membership to some of the clubs other schools have that give members perks like free parking and other access. The bigger schools grow their programs because they get these 100% of these dollars direct instead of the 10 to 25 cents off the dollar (maybe a little more) that classics bring. I know some will cite exposure and all of the rest; Good. Let the locals take care of that. If we want to see our programs grow and expand, it will take more money and us not expecting 90 cent of benefit for every dollar spent supporting our schools. Cincy inundates me with UCAT Booster stuff where a $500 to $1000 donation might get you seats to basketball game nobody wants to see. We can spend that much attending one classic. Eliminating one classic or road trip a year and donating it to the school is a start.

Regards.

You have a good point. Spend the money on the university instead of the classic. I myself will take a similar approach. I'm giving more money to my school and supporting less games. For me and my family to attend games at UAPB from Dallas can get very expensive. This year I will donate more, go to less games, and do more local things with my family.

Uh, we'll be at the games!

;)

Da_Sperm, MACHIAVELLI, & Dr. Mac,

Very good points. This has given my personal perspective of the events that took place an even greater validity in my on mind. I have wrestled with the issues in mind because of the complex nature of this discussion.

Well it was just confirm by Floyd Kerr A.D. at SU the game is on.
Floyd Kerr A.D. at SU just cofirm that the las vegas classic is all sign seal and delivered.
When asked on the Jaguar Journal how things were progressing with the event, floyd kerr stated that he was happy to inform all of the Jaguar Nation that everything was in place and that all contracts were sign by both parties and the the event will take place as schedule.

Kerr sounded really excited to announce that it is a done deal. I hope the Jags and Aggies go and represent like I know they can.
