Bayou Classic VS Magic City Classic

This two seems to be the biggest classics in the SWAC, and maybe in HBCUs. However, which one is bigger and/or better?
Also, is Bayou Classic the big game of the PAST excitement of HBCU football and Magic City Classic is becoming the CURRENT/FUTURE excitement of HBCU?

Just putting it out there.

The Bayou classic is a street party!!!!!!!!!!! Folks be to tired too wake up for the game, I know I was didn't get back to room till 5am. The Bayou classic should start at 4pm!!!!!!
 
Neither one is better then the other. They both serve four loyal fan bases. Instead of competing screaming who is the best, the SWAC needs to capture both of these games and highlight them and market them towards top tier athletes and take them to an even higher level. Although they both are great anything can always be taken to another level. Both of these games have over a 20-30 million dollar impact on Bham and N.O. What greater success story is that? Instead black folks spend simple minded time trying to destroy each other instead of making money and more capital as a whole.
 
I love the fact Magic City and Bayou Classic games are not at the same time of year. That way, we all can enjoy those games without any conflicts. IMO, MCC marks the stretch run of the conference schedule while the Bayou Classic marks the end of the season...and as we know a lot of things happen between those games.
 
the Bayou Classic problem: a losing SU program, everybody knows that the years 70000 people showed up for the Classic 50000 of them were SU fans, because the Bayou classic used to be the SWAC Championship. Grambling and Southern were the 2 best programs in HBCU football until Katrina wiped out Pete's recruiting base and that big ole Stump Mistake. If Doug turn the ship around in 2013 and SU hire a winning coach with a winning record, the Bayou Classic will be back to having 60000 - 70000 people packing into the dome. the Magic City Classic is 71 years old, any thing 71 years old deserve my respect, and they have nurtured their fanbase for years.

Amen...Both are Jewels that should be cherished and supported to the max....and God bless the Soul Bowl, the Florida Classic, the Turkey Day, and all others that serve to show OUR schools in a positive light!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:topic: Stump was NOT a mistake...he did a lot of good for this program and we will be better off in the long run because of his contributions....:clap::clap::clap:
 
After Katrina there's really not even a comparison on these games anymore. Didn't the Bayou draw like 40K last year?

7 pm? When was that Jax? Must have been before my time. LOL. I remember the late afternoon games. I think we always played at 3 I believe when I marched in the Juke.

Had to have been late 70's early 80's.If it wasn't 7, it was 6 or 6:30. Around the mid 80's The start time was around 3 or 4. I remember coming back to Baton Rouge at around 10 or 11 at night when I was a kid.

Also,

These 2 Classics serve their purpose and produce what is needed for each school and community involved. Let's support both. Also, might I add...Bayou Classic has lost its edge.. I believe this is due to lazy marketing to be honest.. What worked in 1992 will NOT work in 2012! With new sponsor and committee I hope that the targets are greated in upcoming years.. I will still be in attendance however.

What does that have to do with anything? MCC just over 70k people in attendance while the BC had slightly under 68k. Keep in mind both teams for the MCC had losing records going into the game while the teams in the BC were clearly above .500. Not saying that one is better than the other but it would be foolish to not acknowledge that they are on the same level.

You just basically said one is better than the other since they are not on the same level. What is this level? How is it determined?

No, I clearly stated it's foolish to NOT acknowledge that they are on the same level. Same level meaning as consistently being number 1 or 2 when it comes to top attendance for a HBCU game. Records are thrown out for both games and there's always a great environment.
 
They are on the same level as far as attendance, but not as far as the national stage, venue, money, and popularity. Attendance for both events are impressive for even FBS standards, but the Bayou Classic's name and fame carries more weight when you talk about rivalries. Hell, ESPN sometimes shows highlights of the game and talks about the match up. The MCC doesn't even it's official title on the screen when the scores are posted for the day. Outside of Alabama, only people who follow HBCU football know how good the rivalry really is. The BC is a match up of two historical FCS programs who have owned the HBCU football world many times and are often times in the hunt for another SWAC/National Black College Championship. Even on a sold out day, Northwestern vs Illinois will never outshine the Army vs Navy Game.

It is an insult to mention the Bayou Classic and the Magic Classic in the same breath!

And you think people outside of HBCU are familiar with this or really care? Seriously, y'all can live in the past if you want to but the MCC is at the top
