What a game, what a game.

Those who saw it definitely got their money's worth.

Most respect for the Alcorn defensive coordinator and the way the Braves shut down the Jags passing offense. Jags were forced to run the ball and they did.

The Alcorn offense took advantege of the Jags defensive weaknesses. Coach Mckenzie is good.

Both teams battle the entire game and left it all out on the field.

What a game. :bowdown:
 
Looking at the score, it sounds like it was a great game. Southern usually put up a few more points but it looks like Alcorn slowed them down a little. :alicia:
 



Alcorn had a very nice game plan and all, but I really think the injuries really has hurt Southern's offense more than anything.
 
Battle down on the reservation and in the stands. We should have won that game. I knew SU was going to find out that our freshman line can't stop the run.

there was a lot of mad braves in attendence because the Jags had taken away there seats and basically taken over the home side of the stadium.

Yup, that's true. I know I went to a section on the home side and there were mostly Southern people sitting and a handful of braves and stood on the bench and Proclaim that this is a Southern Section Now. But we were on about the 20 yard line (opposite the SU Band). The "disagreement" was around the 50 yardline.
 
Alcorn did not let ANY folks know ahead of time that they were selling reserved seats around the 50 instead of letting the whole stadium be general admission. The was a Southern couple sitting in an Alcorn's mans seat. The woman refused to get up proclaiming that she paid her money to see the game as well as he did. She had general admission tickets (purple ones). My aunt offered the man her seat right next to the woman so that there wouldn't be no problems and also the people next to them offered them $25 to find another seat. But the man wanted his own seat, the man's wife got to arguing with the Southern woman, the Southern woman hit the man's wife on her side and then it was on. The Southern woman was escorted out of the stadium.

If you gonna have reserved seating, you should also have "ushers" to insure that the reserved seat in followed. A fan should never have to argue for thier reserved seat. They should have simply had to go to the usher and let them handlle it.
 
Man traffic was so bad coming out of the reservation, I actally drove the Natchez Trace back into Natchez...

I had my blanket on the hill (scoreboard side)..and all I hafta say is Alcorn really lost the game in the first half. Now credit SU's defense for most of that, but I thought Alcorn missed a lot of golden opportunities to put more pressure on Ricks and Co.
 
Ya'll lucky that SPOT the campus dog didn't get into it. :bump:

INJUNS ............ How do that dang dog get into the games. He always has his seat on the grassy hill waiting for somebody to throw him a left over hotdog. :bawling: :bawling:

PS: Two of those SU band members almost took out 2 of my boys on the way in. They pulled out in front of the HWY Patrol ..........BANG. They said they could not do anything except hope that car missed them .......... it did. :dizzy:
 



I don't know why they did not prepare for this game better,because they knew it would be a huge crowd.As always they had security for the purple seats and you had to show your ticket stub before you could set there,but it is like that for every game.It is the same way for parking,I have my personal assigned parking space.Thats why I love my season tickets.
 
Alcorn did not have adequate security in the stands. I too was sitting on the 50. I move when an alcornite said that the section was reserved. couldn't find an usher to get clarification.

It was obvious that Alcorn didn't have nearly enough man power for crowd control. Traffic was just as bad..

But, all worked out well in the end.

I can't make any excuses for SU. Both teams were hitting throughout the game. Alcorn played a hell of a game. And so did SU. Alcorn took away SU's passing game and made SU run the ball. Fortunately, SU did what they had to do to win.
 
Everything else aside,it was a great game.

I knew when Alcorn missed out on those early opportunities the game would turn out the way it did.

This is the game Fox Spotrs should have televised.

I believe that Alcorn was interested in the Gate revenue and may have thought a television broadcast could hinder it. Everyone is getting their cut of the broadcast revenue regardless of who is playing. I believe however, that we should make an attepmt to get some of the better SWAC games on T.V. It is however a "tricky reconciliaion." I believe the the only thing that will change athletic administrators philosophies is a more attractive T.V. payout.

A big source of the traffic jam was them trying to collect money at the entrance, they could not collect it fast enough, so they backed up traffic for 2 or 3 miles. There was little traffic on campus and plenty of places to park, but the bottleneck was at the front gate, Instead of them just letting some cars in to aleviate the traffic Jam, and then start back collecting, they just let the traffic pile up. So folks started parking on the hiway, Cars were parked on the hiway (and every little dirt road along the way) for over a mile (no exaceration, as I was leaving, i watched the counter on my dashboard). The lost a lot of money there.
 
Man I have to say this was one of the hardest fought games ever. My hat goes off to the entire team but especially the offensive line and a special Five Star :tup: :tup: :tup: :tup: :tup: to Myniya Smith, Thomas Saulsby, and Lunda Wells.

Between the three of them in the last 6 or so minutes of the game they must have had six unbelievable picture perfect textbook pancake blocks.

please don't even put it in folks heads to move the game to another site...hell the JSU-SU rivalry has been watered down by playing in the dome. The main reason i like Alcorn-SU is that it's a true home-and-home series...Trust me, that game wouldn't have the same atmosphere and intensity had it been in Jackson.

On a side note...can we get a traveling trophy for the Alcorn-SU game and a catchy name, unlike the "Country Classic" T-shirts I saw on some folk as I walked onto the campus Saturday.

Just call the Alcorn-SU game the "War/Battle for U.S.61" or "The U.S 61 Rumble/Rumble on U.S. 61"...get a traveling trophy with lil placards with the score from each game and space to keep adding scores.
