Battle down on the reservation.

I believe that Alcorn was interested in the Gate revenue and may have thought a television broadcast could hinder it. Everyone is getting their cut of the broadcast revenue regardless of who is playing. I believe however, that we should make an attepmt to get some of the better SWAC games on T.V. It is however a "tricky reconciliaion." I believe the the only thing that will change athletic administrators philosophies is a more attractive T.V. payout.
Believe me they did a poor job of it, but thats a whole other thread.

A big source of the traffic jam was them trying to collect money at the entrance, they could not collect it fast enough, so they backed up traffic for 2 or 3 miles. There was little traffic on campus and plenty of places to park, but the bottleneck was at the front gate, Instead of them just letting some cars in to aleviate the traffic Jam, and then start back collecting, they just let the traffic pile up. So folks started parking on the hiway, Cars were parked on the hiway (and every little dirt road along the way) for over a mile (no exaceration, as I was leaving, i watched the counter on my dashboard). The lost a lot of money there.

When we walked by, there was ONE guy collecting parking money.....smh

Campus security walked up to my dad and got promptly cussed out. They were trying to tell him that he couldn't take up two parking spaces even though he bought a tailgate ticket. How can security at school not know people in the tailgate section get two parking spots? That has been going on since they started charging for parking. The tailgate section has always got 2 parking spaces.
Overall, it was a good game and a good day on the yard.

One man taking up parking. We should have collected over $500,000 that day. Maybee they can upgrade those bathrooms or expand the visitors side. Better yet get a colored reserved section like everyone else so we won't have a women's brawl like we did last Saturday.

Alcorn didn't choose what games they wanted televised. The group that has the contract to cover some HBCU games did the chosing. But I agree with you all. The ASU - SU game should have been broadcasted. He!! it could be a classic if you ask me. Other than a couple of setbacks this was a very good game. Traffic was so as he!! but it was like it was the worst thing in the world. I had fun talking to some guys from Southern. In our own way we were talking noise but at the same time trying to get informed on the other team.
But you know this has been a great rivalry games for years. The intensity is almost as high or higher as the rivalry Alcorn has with JSU. But we'll be back for our revenge when we visit you guys at Jack Spinks Stadium on the campus of Southern University.

the people that collected the parking were some of the most ignorant people on the face of this plant. They would let one car pass and then start a long conversation with each other and then collect from the next car. I think I would still be in traffic if we wouldn't have started our own lane and just bypassed the attendents.

Another thing about traffic. The back gate to campus had no problem getting people on. But that crazy wh#te tropper would direct traffic correctly. Usually the send so many in either direction. I don't know what happened this past weekend.

But I do agree with the idea of a traveling trophy. Kinda like what Alcorn and J State had "The Soul Bowl" which I think was better than the CCC. It could be called the battle on the river, even though Alcorn is about 6 miles from the river.

Tierre remember what state we are in. Alcorn was lucky just to get the stadium. Expanding :argue2: the state would never go for that. We already in the hole trying to get our Ayers money. But that is another subject. Which pisses me off everytime I think about it.

Well it would be nice for those things to happen. But as long as the money is being put to good use instead of going to some of the sticky fingers on campus.

This weekend game shows that SWAC football in general and our old rivalries in particular is alive and well. "It is a beautiful thing." I will not be totally happy though until Jackson State picks it up and the attendance numbers in the SUperdome get to at least 50,000 for this game. We also need to pick it up on recruits and win more out of conference games. Our Alabama brethren are becoming big games for the Jag Nation too. I believe that Jackson State fans base coupled with the Bamas have the potential for these type of crowds. The problem is JSU have to get better. Just a thought..........LC Cole in Jackson would instantly increase the numbers in a Bama State Jackson matchup. Further, I believe it would put JSU back on track. If this happens look for Bama State to make JSU return to Montgomery for their SWAC encounter. It is good to see Pine Bluff pick it up and have success. This should increase their attendance numbers potentially. Hopefully, the Texas schools have a good recruiting season and bring some excitement to their fans and the western division. It looks like Prairie View will pass up TXSU. Valley's ball club this years has been a serious enigma. Certainly a team that you could not take lightly but can't seem to get over the hump. Overall, the future looks bright. I hope the B'ham Dome becomes a reality soon if we are to keep the SCG in the Ham. The SWAC schools have become a part of the digital world as most games can be heard of the web. The marketing tool that each school needs to focus on is broadcasting the coaches show via the internet similiar to what Alabama State does. Further our schools need to do a better job of athletic web sites coupled with updated information. Kudos to Alcorn State for being the paradigm in that department........Peace

Tierre,

My sister was directly in front of the woman that started fighting. Where were you sitting? I understand the guy wanting his reserved sit. He deserved it. However, I was told by family that the lady had been sitting there since 12:30 pm. She was not going to move without force. I knew there was gonna be some drama. In my humble opinion, several ushers should have been there at 12:00 noon to ensure that nobody would be there without the proper ticket. It is crucial to set the proper expectations.

Did you notice that the guy with security was very afraid? He sent the lady in to do the hard work.

We are SU fans. We sat there because a Alcorn fan told us his friends would not be at the game.

I was sitting up at the top of the section. The women who broke it up is the police chief. The security at the game and campus was WAYYYYY understaffed including adding Claiborne County police to the staff. My thing is that they need to have ushers put people in their seats for reserved or put color reserved bench seats in the stadium. That situation could have been avoided very quickly.

Tierre,

We had some very good smack back and forth with some Alcorn fans directly near the situation. But it was all in fun with respect.

I tried to make small talk with the guy that wanted his seat. I could see his veins popping when he first sat down. I am glad that he and the lady from SU did not fight. He was OK by the end on the game.

You are correct. The situation should have never happened. Bottom line, a reserved seat is a reserved seat. But to be fair, a people need to know that before they sit down. I wasn't clear.

I truly enjoyed the game, but something has to be done about the traffic for the larger games. I personally think 1 hour and 15 minutes is too long to be in traffic.

Do you think a shuttle system could work with people parking farther from campus?

The atmosphere was great except for the fight. It wasn't as fun after that.

Well we only have a bid crowd when yall (SU) comes to the yard. Grambling doesn't have that many fans, though they will brings a decent crowd. Other than that it would be no need for it. Traffic was a little bit back up for Homecomming even though I expected a much bigger crowd.

:shame:

When we went my friends and I was suppose to go together but we didn't. hell even the damn football players and the band was late.my friends had left late and was stuck in traffic for a hour and when we had arrived I had to use the damn bathroom for sitting in traffic for 30 damn minutes. I went to the b-ball arena and when I came out I saw the home side and I likely to faint because of all those people I checked Southern side I said damnnnnnnnnnn me and 1 of friends had rode together and the rest of them had rented a van from Hertz because 6 people went with them I had to hurry up and sit my azz on the hill (scoreboard side) before that got smashedv together with all those SU fans, and the concession line was long as hell I had to wait 25 mintes to get a damn hotdog and a cold drink. I think overall though it was good in the country and looking forward to being there in 2006.
