ASU V.S. S.U.....WHO GOT WHO?

Lack of originality?? How so, and since when?? :uhoh:

The only ASU folks talkin all da noise are the ones on here.........the rest of us having said anything cause either we weren't at the game or just simply don't have nuthin to say. :smh:

Just to get an idea of what happened on Saturday, I called my frat Reggie in da Gump; even though he is MMH (DM, 95-96), he is very unbiased and is a die hard Jukebox fan........he basically said something similiar to what I've read here and on SF's. In a nutshell, SU got the W in the stands; ASU did good at halftime, but it wasn't necessarily a W.

Fucc all dis foolishNESS............I wanna see footage so I can form my own opinion.

I even gave Bama St halftime strictly because of the entertainment value. Now the reason I say that Bama St is not original is because if u were at the game then u would have heard Bama St playing SU, Morris Brown, AAMU, NCA&T, and Jackson St's signature arrangements EXACTLY the way they play them.

I suppose to be getting a copy of this tape pretty soon (I hope so). Which arrangements are you referring to so I can listen out for them?

Vette,

Are you not able to pull it up on the website?

This is what I really fell to understand!!! If SU aint this and SU aint that, and SU aint what is use to be! Why prepare for us? Why rebuke so hard how blew SU out or you did this or you did that!!! Certainly you don't see SU putting much interest in some bands they go up against (MSVU, Alcorn)! I mean what ever those bands state they did to SU isn't worth a reply so if we aint what use to be why do you prepare for us and try to bring your A game which reallly when you show up is a B at best!!! Only bands I can say brought or bring their A game against SU and represent are FAMU, JSU, AT&T did last year GSU some years at the battle of the bands but come on now! Why defend yourself and your prpgram against a so call has been!!

halftime southern crowd was not really into it but asu's halftime was much better than su and as far as the stands go southern let the monster out it seemed like they were holding back in the first half but in the second half they hit the volume button :lecture: ......by the way im from ASU

Please enlighten me, Psycho...

what standards from those schools did you hear Bama State play at that game???

Go to war (A&T), Do whatcha wanna (SU), Distant Lover (SU/exactly like MBC plays it), Neck (Carbon copy of SU), SOS (AAMU), Black and Blues (Just like SU play it), and at least 3-4 other tunes. I'll have to see a tape of it.

So I guess when folks say "ASU needs their own style," they are referring to song selection and arrangement?

Now that "Do whatcha wanna" is actually the theme song from "The Jeffersons," but they come off the field bouncing (or whatever that is ya'll do) like SU. Either way, I don't like it because that is SU's trademark, not ours. :nod2:

But I feel what you are saying Psycho.........one of my biggest pet peeves is when a band copies off another; I'm all about having your own style and not trying to be like someone else.

Ain't dat right, crazylegs?? :lmao:

I have to go with SU, although ASU did have a nice sound on some songs and that is real. SU repeats alot as well, and it is soooo boring to see that, but what band don't. Normally it is the directors that make the call not the actually members in the band. Some traditions can and need to be broken and that is real. It is so tired, but ASU you did well though just not better than SU in my opinion.

First of all, that is not do what u wanna, it the theme song to the jeffersons, SOS in nothing like AAMU, our black & blues is not like yours, when will yall understand that some arrangements of songs are going to sound similar to other arrangements, you cant change every song so it will be different from other bands, that takes away from the song itself. Fact of the matter is some arrangements sound similar because thats just how the song sounds.

B.S. when ya'll were coming off the field ya'll started trying to secondline. If u listen to our Black and Blues and the real song it sounds nothing like it. So how can 2 people conceive the same arrangement? It ain't gonna happen. Ya'll stole SOS from AAMU hands down. I see that u fail to mention Neck, Go to war and Distant Lover because it's painfully obvious that your arranger listened to SU, A&T and MBC and copied it. When a band does that IMO they are not a top 5 program.

I must agree with that.

 Well I don't! Even though this is :topic:, you "YOUNG ENS" need to know where sfuff really comes from and humble down. Not that it really matters, state has been playing S.O.S before AAMU even had the D*MN arrangement! (no offense Bulldogs) True enough, state plays a different one now (and I truely hate it) does not make us a copycat. If anything, thats the last thing state is. "A COPYCAT" :lecture: "Alabama State University, the most magnificent university on the face of the EARTH" has one of the oldest and the most original styes in the SWAC....if you don't believe me ask GREGGS, LYDELL, FOSTER or whoever in the hell else! Have yall N*ggas ever heard of PROF. THomas E. Lyle? How about Danny B. Davis! I didn't think so. Yall probably don't care, well I could give a **** if you don't! :smug: I just want the facts straight. I was marching the heels out of boots when half of yall was still learning how to play a B flat scale withoug running out of breath. And just for the record, that probably is SU's neck, but so what! Only way that can be a copy from yall is if you gave it to us cause believe me, you all are good but pull your azz out your head cause nobody cares that much to try and copy an arrangement off a tape of you!!! IF you believe that, than like ol boy said "Cocaine is a helluva DRUG." and further, we might have some babbish that again, someone else might play! So what, take out a copyright law suit and Shut the **** uP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :splat: Talk about some real S**t like how many of your band members graduate, or how many true upperclassmen act like upperclassmen, or how many notes did YOU MISS in the show!!!!!! NOW yall wanted it, put ya game face on cause I've sat back long enough and listened to the nonsense put on the swacpage (us included)!!! TALK NOW!!

I have not heard the word "babbish" since I left ASU. :lmao:

Kreme, you talking as if you are old as dirt. $hyt, u younger than me!!!

Honestly, it takes Frosty (Archangel) to tell the story of how MMH came bout and the history with us and FAMU.

"Kreme, you talking as if you are old as dirt. $hyt, u younger than me!!!"

You are right Vette, I'm not that old but I let my experience speak for me, especially the way these guys rate bands. Truley, the best overall band right now is either PVMU(The storm) or Texas Southern(The Ocean) now thats real. Now sit back and watch what happens.

Oh yeah, and you are right, us and Fam do have a very long history, and "Literally Share" the same concepts but this generation doesn't know nor respect the whole marching band concept enouth to seek the truth.
And I can't leave out Grambling, they may not be what they used to but they used to rule the Swac...and Jsu did too especially during the time when they played those earlier Whitney Houston songs........

Now you said a mouthful there, didn't you bruh...

You told the truth tho.....kreme said take out a copyright law suit and Shut the **** up! :lmao:

Whooooweee!!! You boys are fired up over that JUKE BOX! those boys be thumping and pumping! They are the epitome of what all SWAC bands should sound like. They are the band to perform against at the end of the week most bands consider "Hell Week" They ARE the Mighty Human Jukebox and don't any of you forget it.
NOW!
Since forever ago, those boys from SU have never been able to take any kind of criticism whatsoever, they go down to the death defending their band (Question. Why don't they think people from Bama State would do the same?) anybody who has "Sweat blood" for their band should defend the ever loving sh-- out of their band. Be proud of your band. It's the one you chose (over Southern) or (over Bama State). Y'all are some grown azzed people, y'all should know better than to think a true Southern/Hornet bandmember will break down and say "Oh well I guess you're right" PULEEZE!!! *****!
SU has never been a band to really bring it on the field (BUT WHEN THEY GET IN THOSE STANDS) LOOK OUT! (I know y'all jukebox boys smiling right now) hold that thought......the stands (listen close) the stands are NOT the deciding factor of what band did the best.BAMA State has never really been a band to bring it in the stands but if you turn your head, THEY ARE GONNA MURDER YOU ON THE FIELD!!! HORNETS DO STING!!!...I'M STILL CRAZY ABOUT THAT HORNET WING THING THEY DO WITH THEIR ARMS. I'm suprised y'all have let it all come down to who blew each other out AFTER the game?????? What tha??
Tapes of AFTER the game can only prove that SU kicked butt AFTER the game. Tapes of the halftime show can only prove that ASU got house AFTER the first half. WHO THE HECK BROUGHT IT FROM KICK-OFF TO CLOSE? WHO? THINK HARD. The answer to that question will produce your winner.
LASTLY...I'm a former-crab of 1988. If any of you had joined the Ocean of Soul when you entered college, I'm certain I would have crabbed you. :-) And maybe pledged you...(ALL HAIL!!!!!) spr.89 Kappa Delta.
SU....stop being so damned cocky all the time, the sun doesn't rise and set on your ass. BAMA State y'all know that Miracle Band hasn't been really tight since the early eighties. I wanted SOO bad to come at y'all back in '88 cause I knew what y'all were about. As for preparing for SU, yes it was the Ocean's Hell week when we prepared to play y'all but let me put a bug in your ear...OR SOME WATER!!!! The Ocean I was in, NEVER thought  OMG!!! WE PLAYING SU THIS WEEK....AGGGGGH!!!! Ever! Why? Because a good portion of our people were from St. Aug, McDonough 35, St. Mary's (You know who these schools are. don't play dumb) AND CARVER HIGH SCHOOL in Birmingham Alabama (one of Mr. Means' boyz) BAMA State folks know bout that . When it was time to play SU, we were pumped because we KNEW we had something for y'alls arse on AND off the field. Y'all knew it too. That's why y'all had people driving over from Baton Rouge to see what the Ocean was going to do.I believe his name was "Japp" from MU PSI-eeeee!!!!
Go back and get these tapes since y'all are so stuck on such a thing. FALL ' 83,85, 87 (OMG) AND 89. The key songs were 'Steppin Out" by Steel Pulse, "It Aint Over til It's Over by Lenny Kravitz and "Lies" by Johnathan Butler. SU was simply the last game before the "Crab Show" which HAD to happen before we played JSU. That's it. Sorry.... :nod2: Now y'all be nice and try to get along with the other SWAC kids. WE CAN ALL AGREE WITH THIS. IF IT AINT SWAC! YOU BETTER CHECK TO MAKE SURE IT'S BLACK..... :uzi:

:smh: Black Cope, tell these peeps the same thing you told me on the phone about how you walked in on your boy arranging a tune from a video tape of another band.... DON'T name any names about who it was... just confirm this.
Man, y'all are getting too sensitive... SUtrp is an electrical engineer, BachMega is an electrical engineer, I'm a structural engineer in Las Vegas. I was a silly upperclassman. I had crabs do skits. I also extorted. Additionally, I taught them how to play the game. As far as missing notes, I missed a whole bunch of them cause I enjoyed sitting back and screaming. This forum should be bringing folks together, not establishing who is the most credible critic.

YEAH I DID MOME BUT HE ISN'T THERE ANYMORE. JUST BECAUSE WE PLAYED SOME SONGS THAT OTHER SCHOOLS PLAY DOESN'T MEAN THAT WE CAN'T PLAY THEM. NOW EVERY SCHOOL PLAYS "NOLJA CLAP" , JUST CAUSE SU, FAMU, OR JSU PLAYED IT DOESN'T MAKE IT THERE SONG. NOW SU PLAYS "PYT" AND "BLACK AND BLUES" AND SO DOES JSU.......YOU CAN'T SAY THAT THIS IS MY SCHOOL'S SONG.... :argue2: THATS JUST DUMB. :argue:

P.S.
I STILL THINK SU CAME TO THE GUMP SLIPPING AND BAMA STATE GOT AT SU.......BUT LIKE I SAID SU WILL NEVER ADMIT TO A BLOWOUT... :slap: FACE IT YA'LL GOT SERVED!! :slap: YOU YA'LL SWAC CHAMPIONSHIP.....

Ay, you think that if you want to cuz. :lecture: Actually, you need to do some more research playa b/c most of the styles us "black" bands do these days come from somewhere else. Better yet lets' try up north suck as Michigan State, U of Ill, etc. Just look into and you will see for yourself. And in regards to a song not being owned, actually that is TRUE, but in the band world you know that certain schools have mastered various songs; therefore, it is there tune. I.E. PYT, SWOOP, KNIGHTS BY KNIGHTS are songs that can only be played by JSU b/c no one else could dare master it the way they could. You say what you want, but this is true. I wish someone "ANY BAND" would have the balls or ovaries to play one of those songs against JSU, they would absolutelu die. Try and get :uzi: or better yet :saw:

Shiiiiid..........can you say the early 90's??

I've seen footage of ASU in the early 80's.....they were okay, but they didn't have shat on ASU in th 70's!!! ~still trippin on that 1975 footage~

:look: I'm not gonna turn this into an ASU/JSU battle based on the comment by blackprince. However, lets get one thing straight!!! Don't insult my intelligence by bring up Michigan or Univ of Ill. I know THEY invented the fast march or double time. Yeah, we do it but thats one aspect we adotped way back.....that does not have anything to do with our STYLE. So before you check someone on their OWN history, tighten UP!! Like I said, our style IS original. And just cause a band is known for playing a song does not make it theirs. Since you wanna bring up history....Bama state was known for playing GET READY before we even marched into the stadium years ago. Why they stopped beats me but I bet you didn't know that(and yeah, I know you all been playing that for years but you was not the only one!). If you think its a lie, ask some of your old heads from the 80's and early 90's!! :lecture: And one last thing, YES your black and blus is wonderful. I will never take that away but don't think for a minute you masetered all those tunes you named because YOUR PYT is nice but come on now, even I can admit that SU has that one hands down!!! Don't think for one minute that I don't have pride for mine but pride is one thing and truth is everything!! "PUTTING TO MUCH PRIDE IN THE WRONG "THING" CAN RESULT IN YOU LOSING EVERY"THING", THEN YOU WILL HAVE NO"THING"TO HAVE PRIDE IN!!!" Also, the only way to solve a problem is to first acknowlede it!!!

Might Marching Hornet Fall 94
Drum M. Fall 97, 98
