An Alabama State University committee has been formed to investigate the Hornets' football program.

Sandra Malone, who works in ASU president Joe Lee's office, confirmed the existence of the committee. Malone said she had no knowledge of its size, who is on the committee or what it will investigate.

Several other ASU officials, while denying any involvement with the committee, also said they've heard of the investigation.

"I know that I've heard strong rumors," assistant athletic director and compliance officer John Ivery said. "No one has come right out and told me, but I've been led to believe that an investigation is taking place. If it is taking place, it would be something the president originated."

Lee was not in his office on Thursday and wasn't available for comment.

While he denied any involvement in the investigation, Ivery said he is aware of rules violations by the ASU football program.

"There's been a couple of things that I've noticed," Ivery said. "I would rather not get into the specifics of those right now."

Ivery said it wouldn't surprise him if the investigation focuses on misappropriation of funds by football coaches and the use of ineligible players.

"From what I've seen, I would say that those two things would definitely be a part of (the investigation)," Ivery said. "Yes, both of those."

Richard Cosby, who took over in November as ASU's athletic director, also said he wasn't sure of the specifics but had heard about the investigation.

"I know what you're talking about and I've heard the same things around here," said Cosby. "It was obviously something that they decided to do before I was brought here, because I'm not involved in it."

Another person apparently not involved is football coach L.C. Cole.

"I don't have any idea about anything like that going on around here," Cole said. "If they're doing it, they're obviously keeping it from me. I haven't heard the first word about it from anybody."

Cole wonders why others seem to be aware of an investigation that he knows nothing about.

"You would think they would come to me if there was a problem," Cole said. "I'm not sure how they handle investigations here because I've never been a part of one, but I would have thought they would come to me first and we could handle any problems. I'm totally in the dark here. I guess I'll have to just wait and see what happens like everybody else."

I guess Roar man wasnt lying after all.

Personally, dont finish this investigation until October 12th.

Damn, thats interesting........................

Why is Cole always the last to know what's going on with his program?

Is Cole up to his old tricks again?

MH, GigGlY Puffs, MarKKKu..errrrr...unknown, somebody pls come and explain this.............

Now how do you run a dept and don't know if there is any misappropration of funnds or even ineligible players being played. I can understand about the latter part because the Ath. Director came on board at the end of football season. But both he and the Asst Ath. Dir don't know a dam thing about this so called investigatino but they have heard rumors. If I'm in either of those positions and I'm hearing rumors, it's time to go to your boss and find out whats going on. They know whats going on and just don't want to be involved, so they will look good when the bricks hit the wall.

That was the same thing I was thinking. How can you come into a program without any knowledge of anything? Im pretty sure that the AD will use as an excuse that he is new to the program and had no knowledge of any NCAA violations. Oh well..........Cole has destroyed another football program. Man, Im sure glad we did not choose him for our HC job. ~wipes forehead~

And to think. Cole was trying to get the SWAC to run a check on Buckey for ineligible players. Now, he's on the hot seat. LOL!

He said that like he is use to being in a lot of investigations.

Hmmm....oh well here we go again.....fudge it!!! the dayum AD and his assistant know what the fudge is going on.Isht those kneegroes are the ones(along with J.Reed) who started this witch hunt. Why?? CAUSE L.C. WAS BROUGHT IN BY DONALD WATKINS.

The only thing I'll say is just because the AD and the asst. told the newspaper they don't know what's going on, doesn't necessarily mean that they really don't know what's going on. I got the feeling from the quotes that the ASU family is trying to hold the information in.

Heres my thing:

How is it that the compliance officer has been left in the dark about an investigation concerning INELIGIBLE PLAYERS. ..... HEEELLOOO

"I'm not sure how they handle investigations here because I've never been a part of one,
Why is Coles lying? If there is one thing he knows something about, its an investigation.

You notice the word "NCAA" hasnt been used? And also the AD is supposedly not a part of the investigation. Huh? Nobody knows who is on this mysterious committee....Malone or Ivery? Hmmmmmm

This is a witch hunt if I have ever seen one. Im no Coles fan, but its obvious that for whatever reason, some coward upstairs has turned his back on Coles. This is some underhanded back stabbing cowardly schitt.

Committee? Yeah right........
This is someones cousin that has been snooping around trying to find out something bad about Coles for the president cause the pres wants him fired.

TSK, TSK, TSK!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU JACKSON STATE PEOPLE SEEMED MORE WORRIED THAN WE ARE......BAMA STATE PEOPLE ALREADY KNOW WHAT THE DEAL IS........COLE IS SUCCESSFUL, AND SOME PEOPLE DON'T LIKE IT............BLACK PEOPLE JUST BEING BLACK........

maybe the President of Bama St is the only one that aint DUMB enough to know that Coles HASNT been successfull.....

What the President is trying to do has NOTHING to do with him being successful or not. Why would he try to get rid of him based on the outcome of the program considering what it was before he came? C'mon now, a few of us know that this has nothing to do with football itself.

DAHILL,
The simple fact is that Cole has been at ASU for 3 years.
For 2 of those years, we had the best record in the East.

If you think he aint been successful only because of this year and our games against in-state teams, then I ask you, would you also hold Pettaway to the same standard. I mean, Pettaway aint been successful against in-state teams lately and this year, his record has him in 9th place.
