Man how can our schools fix this?

So basically SU is automatically out of the SWAC Championship?

I would've posted it. Matter of fact I had a lengthy discussion about it on Twitter with someone after I retweeted it.
 
All of our programs that were struggling have improved except Men's Tennis. Definitely need improvement there.

Keep your head up SU. Better days are ahead.

I agree. It sucks for Southern but like one of their posters already said they're paying for years of hiring incompetent staffers. Until our HBCUS get the adequate resources and academic support in the Athletic departments we will always have to find ways to do more with less.

In 2016-17, 31 teams are subject to penalties – in addition to the postseason requirement – for not meeting the minimum academic standard set by member schools. In 2015-16, 28 teams took penalties.

Schools may request a waiver from some or all penalty elements. Waivers are overseen by the Committee on Academics. The Academic Performance Program penalty structure includes three levels, with penalties increasing in severity at each level. Schools move through the penalty structure each year, progressing to the next level of severity if their multiyear APR remains below the benchmarks.

The specific penalties for each team are listed on the school’s report in the APR searchable database.

Okay...I'm not really saavy when it comes to APR and things of that nature. But what is actually being done so that our schools succeed? From the vibe of this post, HBCUs have a bad rep for falling short of this APR. It seems like not enough is being done.

What would help APR is if Athletic Scholarships were made for 4 Years instead of being renewed annually.

Cutting players in 2016 does not work with APR in Place. Coaches need to be held accountable for the players they recruit. Make those scholarships for 4 years.

LOL. C'mon Beans. Southern goes to D2 and it'll be the start of the death of the SWAC as we know it. Same as if the majority of SWAC members go down to D2.

But I knew this was coming, just off the unusable data stuff. Haven't had a full-time athletics director since April 1, 2015. WTF do folk expect?
I've always said you can't run a multi-million-dollar business like a church social. Bad shit always happens when you do so.
Oh well, my alma mater powers-that-be must be pigs because they seem to like wallowing in their own muck.

Southern will still be able to play in the football championship game and other conference tournaments, since that precedent has already been established. However, no Celebration Bowl, NCAA Tournaments/NITs, etc.

Bruh...you gonna pay a cat that can't get his/her grades right for 4-years of flunking? You gonna keep a guy or girl on for four years and no academic progress?

J, isht should have been rectified 2-3 years ago. Worm continue to recruit those dumb players, your leaders continue to promote illiteracy, and the Commissioner continue to advocate this foolishness by letting you guys play in these SWAC post-season games that can decide the outcome of who plays in the NCAA post-season.

That is where "ACCOUNTABILITY" comes into play. You as a coach now must look at a Player's Academic record and not strictly his gamefilm.

In order for the SWAC and other HBCUs to contend with APR, we must go by the Ivy League Method.

JR, I hear you but you all had a chance to correct that. JSU got in trouble ONE time and we got much better. The people who messed us up got fired and we hired an AD who was good at compliance. Viv was nothing more than a compliance director.

You all got in trouble the same time as us so you can't blame the incompetent people.

On top of that, the NCAA let's you correct that paperwork. JSU was able to go back and find the students that the previous lady was too lazy to find and we got a LOT of our points back.
