Only the first set of people to start these scams make money. Some folks make some change, but that is about it. If you lookng for at least 1k a month, it happening.

I've been approached by several different companies. I just tell everyone that I am not interested.

I posted something on FB about how I wasn't interested in any MLM opportunities. I had about 5 inbox messages about how the right one is worth it and blah blah blah. I don't want to go to any seminar, I don't want to sit through a pre-recorded phone message, or video. I've seen some people go from one "company" to another, and losing everything, all while talking about how I lack vision. I'm so good on all of that.

I did Nona Juice cause my mama was hooked on it and it was cheaper buying it direct. Sold "maybe" one bottle to a cousin. I just got the autoship every other month or so??

Now my brother, that dude is HOOKED on MLM. He's done Amway, That Legal stuff, internet...but he hasnt made a million yet. I"m hopeful for him though.

I have a friend that does Noni, and she got me to buy some products. Then she came back and said someone "gifted" me a membership so I could become a reseller. They email me all the time, but I told her I didn't particularly like the product and can't see trying to sell it to someone else.

Right. Its too much fluctuation in these things for me. One minute you can be rolling..and things change. Especially how its structured because its one thing to make money with folks on your team. But when they stop making money and bounce out...you stop making money.

I've had several people try to get me involved in many of these pyramid marketing schemes and I always say "No Thanks". The funny thing is that the same folks that tried to get me involved were all into it and talking about how much money they were going to make and etc for a good 3 to 6 months and then after that they stopped talking about it. So I am guessing things didn't turn out as they expected.

Though it may take more than the 3-4 hours per week that they claim, most of these programs are legitimate (good business models) and can make you a lot of money if you work it right. I love the concept of those MLM businesses.

1) Pay 1,000 to get in.
2) Put in your own work.
3) Get people on your team to put in work.
4) Get residual $.

It's not a "scheme" - just a different way of doing business than most people are used to. But if you think about it, most companies / businesses / govenrment are run this way.

I have yet to meet someone that is really making money off these programs. When the economy is tough, it seems these "programs" come out the wood work.

The thing no one tells the truth about is that it takes money to make money. Having capital is the key to getting more money. All it takes is for someone to let you in the click and you can get paid too. The problem is in the black community everyone wants to be the big money grip, therefore it is hard to get into the money making click. There are some folks out here getting those ends, believe that!!!

I agree. Almost all businesses are organized this way. MLM is not a "scheme" or a scam. Some come off that way because they are not proud of their product or how they do business, but there is nothing wrong with the organizational structure.

The problem is that most people are not entrepreneurial. Most people are job people and need to be told what to do. They don't have the vision, skills or perseverance required to build a successful business. Offering a MLM "opportunity" to those people is a recipe for failure. Sure, you'll sell a few products to them, their family and friends but little else. Many MLMs are happy with that, knowing that it's all a numbers game.

Then you have those people who can build a team and who don't mind telling people what to do .... :)

The problem with MLM is money is not made in sales, it's made in memberships. Your product is the membership.

Not necessarily.

Money is made in sales. Just not a long-term consistent stream of money unless you build an organization. It's possible for one person to go out and sell to their family and friends. That's what everybody is told to do. Run out and sell this to your family and friends and when they do that, most people have no where else to turn because any additional sales will require true salesmanship and/or team building. Building a business.

There's money in sales, but big money is in building a business. That's how we get Wal-Mart. McDonald's. KFC. Sam Walton could have made a decent living by manning the counter and stocking the shelves in one store in Arkansas. Or he could have built a system that delivers goods to people all over the world long after he's dead. And provided his heirs billions of dollars. Don't tell me Wal-Mart doesn't make money from selling product. You're missing the picture if you say that.

Of course he does but selling from your home or small vendor webpage is not going to work to well with MLM. Most of your buying public is not going to want to pay more for a product that is similar to walmarts and takes longer to reach you. convenience plays a huge factor with (speaking about amyway in general) this. If you look at most MLM, they push membership, not sales as a way to make money. Get a line under you and that person gets a line under them. Take the membership out and MOST people make very little money.

We're saying the same thing.

This right here is why I am not interested.

Like SUJagFan said, MLM is an entrepreneurial way of thinking. You need people like that. They start companies. But there's also nothing wrong with people who do not think like that. They work at those companies. So both groups are needed.

But remember, people who don't think like entrepreneurs, will always work for people who do think like entrepreneurs. But again, both groups are needed in this world.

We spend 4 years and 50k on a college degree to get out and work 40hrs + per week and make 50k/yr, MAYBE.
But some of these other business opportunities take 1-2k and 2-3 month of traiing and can get you 90k of residual income (let's say 20 hrs per week).

Of course some people will say "they don't work, i'm not salesman, most don't make money, etc."
