also question... where does the SWAC make money wth ticket sales... I dont know if the ticketmaster tickets were fake or not but EVERYBODY you walked by outside of the gate was scalping tickets.... Some were 1 for 20.... I saw some 2 for 25.... I looked at ALL of the tickets and in the corner all of the tickets had 0.00 in the bottome corner (basically like complimentary tickets) How do these junkies get a hold to these tickets? Do they photcopy them. I can see where the SWAC may lose money off of this game... The Birmingham neighborhood junkies are making all of the money selling complimentary tickets.

I have heard that at many events that are not sold out in advance, the club/promoter/team will hire people to scalp tickets or sell them very cheap and let the scalper get whatever they can get for them.

Ain't no way this game should have had such a small turnout. How long will we continue down this path?
Due to the fact SU lost the Bayou Classic a lot of The Nation did not show like they usually do. Also the I heard a lot of SU fans say they would never attend the championship game as long as it was in Birmingham after last year. Why don't we move the game to Atlanta, New Orleans, or Houston where a dome is available.

I was extremely surprised to read that attendance was ~22,000. It has been stated before, the city of Birmingham need to support the SCG. There has been a bama school 5 of the 6 championships. I hate to think what the attendace would be like without a bama school's participation. I have attended only two SCGs and was scheduled to go last year and this year. The weather was the reason I did not attend last year and his year I had a prior engagement. I decided that I would support the SCG, because I think that it is a positive thing for the SWAC and it is setting the trend for D-IAA. I agree that the SWAC office needs to promote it more than what it has done so far. I think the highest attendance was the first year and we all know that all SWAC bands were present.

With the 9 game mandate, everybody plays each other...so why not let the team with the overall best record host the SCG? If/when we go to a 7 game mandate (in which all teams don't play each other), alternate the game between the East and West representative.

There are simply better places to play the game than Birmingham, AL.

1) New Orleans
2) Shrevport
3) Houston
4) Memphis

I would say Shrevport of all places. It is a true neutral site. It is less than a 6 hour drive for the majority of the SWAC schools. It has an adult night life (gambling). With the renovations of the stadium, it can surely hold 60,000 people.

Well personally I thought that it appeared to be about 23-24,000 people there...... I felt that the turnout was good but could have been better....... I think that no mattter who is playing that people from other SWAC achools should travel to support the game.....If we don't support it then who is going to..........Trust I understand that people may have other things planned being that it is the Christmas season but we must come out and support this game........MHURD97 stated that he did not attend last year because of weather and those are the kind of excuses that some people choose to fall back on. He also stated that he had planned to go but had a prior engagment (Thats is not something we need to know personally). This statement means that what you had previously scheduled was more important than the SCG. So with that said why give us what you had PLANNED..... IF YOU DID NOT COME AAND COULD NOT BE COUNTED THEN IT REALLY DOES NOT MATTER ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. Personally you did what you wanted to do... .....THAT IS THE SORRIEST EXCUSE TO COME UP WITH. If it were Texas Southern playing in the SCG then trust if it was 18 below you would have been there.........People lets stop making excuses on why we did not attend and make an effort to attend........ I felt that it should have been more people...... As for the SUCK U people what you also gave was an excuse about the BC........ Let me give a piece of advice that I was told by a fellow Gramblinite::: No matter what kind of season you are having if you are a die hard then you are a diearhard.....If you planned on going before the BC then why change your mind after the fact...... The following week after the BC you found out that you were a contender for the TITLE .......... That alone should have bought you out in record numbers........ People say that BAMA had more people the SUCK U this may be wrong in my opinion...... I think that BAMA had some people from other schools that were there to support them against SU........ I could only be singled out becasue I had on my Grambling gear cheering for BAMA......But people we must do better in the support of the game...... I think personally that it is kinda hard to get a exact number simply because you have people who are going to do things under the table...... But if we filled that stadium up then guess what we would not BE HAVING THIS TALK!!!!!!! Let's get the message out people......Now, I think that they should move the game from Birmingham because in my opinion there is not much to do after the game........To me Brimingham has nothing to offer as a small city..................

Plain and simple... DONT GO DONT COMPLAIN..... Thats like a ***** that dont vote complailnin about things the president do.

Most of the people here complaining are people that aint seen a SWAC championship.

Add Arlington, TX. Arlington will be the new home of the Dallas Cowboys and they are building a new stadium, like Houston (retractable dome).

I don't believe you brought this subject up again, Sperm.

:smh:

BTW,

Congratulations to the Alabama State University Hornets, the 2004 champions of the Southwestern Athletic Conference!!

Maybe a lot of Southern fans didn't want to travel to Alabama for the third time. You'll know we don't attend football games when it's cold or raining.

That was PERFECT football weather on Saturday.

A lot of people from Southern made other plans after we lost the Bayou Classic. The bus I rode would have been full, but they canceled it after the BC loss. So Monday, they had to put it back together and about half the people had made other plans and did not go. Thinking we were not going for a week put a big dent in Southerns Crowd.

This is what I heard too...along w/folks saying they're not going to anymore SCG's b/c of the location.

Yeah, I was a little dissappointed with the turnout, but there was a lot of energy especially during the second half of the game. ASU did in fact bring more fans than SU.

On the scaper issue, I was also amazed at how many times I had people ask me do I want some tickets. I mean they were almost one after the other as I moved towards the ticket counter from the east side of the stadium. There was even a scaper in front of Birmingham Southern College.

being in your back door don't you all think that you should have had a lot more fans at the game. Compared to the uncertainty of SU fate in the game. You all knew almost a month in adavance and that is all the fans you could work up. :shame: I understand SU to an extent in not coming, from not knowing to the BC loss. Shame on you ASU.

I can't argue with that. You are right. The only reason I can think of why more ASU fans were not there was the cold weather. It was in the 40s throughout most of the game.

On another note about the venue issue, at this point I don't care is the SCG moved to another city. I am proud of what was accomplished in the city of Birmingham and I am curious to see what will the game be like in another city.

Also, maybe we can shut the people up who think Birmingham is boring. We need to bring this issue to a close once and for all. Someone needs to give a list of reasons (concrete) why the other cities mentioned above would be better than Bham. Even if Bham builds a dome, I know that won't change opinions about the city of Bham. So what can the other cities offer that Bham can't?

Amen KB!

What disturbs me about this subject (that tends to come up a million times a year,) is how much are you looking to do in ANY CITY for two days? If you are basing your decision to travel to a particular city for a championship football game based on how many "booty bars," and after parties there might be, then you ain't likely going for the game, anyway. I know that we as HBCU alumni and fans just ain't gone be happy if there ain't a "par-tay" going on somewhere, but my lands....are you going to support your teams, or going to get drunk and shake @zz all day and night?

My question would be WHY? This has 'San Antonio' and 'Alamodome' written all over it.

Good question. #1, the Spurs (my NBA team by the way,, ). #2, the Big 12 championship for a year or two. #3 and the most important, CONVENTION SPACE EXPANSION. You have got to have convention facilities/space to compete with the top tear metro areas now days. Sports is not the main draw/reason for a dome. Bringing more and larger conventions to the city of Birmingham is,, although sports is good **** don't get me wrong.
