I don't know if he ruined it. But the PF position started evolving in the mid to late 90s. There were a couple of those guys who had some range at the PF spot back in the day before Dirk. The influx of European players however has changed the game somewhat and all these kids grow up wanting to be shooters and not bangers like the old NBA. The game evolved from that style. More International style now.

Gotta thank David Stern and the Dream Team for that. These European players in the league's first exposure to the NBA was the Dream Team. After seeing them, those kids began watching and emulating the Dream Teamers. International programs got better. International players got better.

They would probably be good today but not as dominant as they were back in their day

I think this has gone beyond the lakers vs bulls LOL. It is now moreso old vs new school. No one is saying the greats wouldn't still be great, but when someone says the guys today are smaller/weaker than the past, that's crazy. Jim Brown was a man amongst boys and he'd still be that today. Babe Ruth would still be babe today, minus the drinking and drugs because those would be scrutinized more. Same with Hank, Wilt, Satchel, Jerry West, etc.

Babe Ruth wouldn't be great in today's game. Him and a lot of guys from back then didn't play against the best baseball players. I would put an asterisk by any white athlete's name if they didn't play against blacks.

Also they didn't face international players. The game has changed so much since Ruth's time that he'd struggled to keep up
 
We have to remember that guys back then didn't play ball year-round or were involved in extensive training like athletes today, as many worked "real jobs" during the offseason to support themselves on their families.
 
Babe's pitching stats probably wouldn't be as great but I can't see his HR power fading if he were playing today.
 
Noah, Deng, Rose, Jordan and Pippen, says Yahoo!

The recent social media argument between Scottie Pippen and Shaquille O’Neal led to an interesting debate about who would win in a game between the Lakers’ and the Bulls’ “all-time” teams. O’Neal argued LA would win by 50, and Pippen just laughed. Then O’Neal called him a bum.
