Thugs charged in death of football player at Alcorn State </h3>
Lorman, MI (Sports Network) - Four Natchez men have been charged with murdering Alcorn State linebacker JeKelcy Lee Johnson who was shot late Monday night during a campus confrontation. Johnson, 20 years old, was declared dead that same night at Claiborne County Hospital.
Troy Hayes, 24, Tyauntra Batteaste, 24, Terrell Chatman, 23, and Demetrice Williams, 20, were held without bond on Thursday in the Claiborne County Detention Center in Port Gibson. Each is charged with murder and aggravated assault.
According to the police, another student was injured in the shootings and the four men being charged were questioned on Tuesday. The four men are not students and were just "joyriding" on the campus.
Police also say that Johnson became involved in this tragic incident after one of the four being charged threw a bottle at a female student.
The female was taken to the hospital but did not require hospitalization. The other student who was shot, 20-year-old Roddel Devoual, was listed in satisfactory condition Thursday at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Alcorn State has 3,000 students.
