Currently in the Prime era all SWAC teams seem to be playing for second place. That scooter was classic; however, I agree this year's game should have been played in Jackson. I am unsure if promoters, recruiting, etc. was involved in that decision to move the game. However, I don't see Prime complaining about it. Therefore, it had to meet his approval. Because you know he will call you out if he didn't approve.
When it comes to our friends in Montgomery, Coach Robinson has done an exceptional job with that team. I really expect ASU to be in the mix for the championship in the future. The team is on the rise. Just like Stephen complains about Cowboy fans, I have the same feeling about certain ASU fans, act like you are use to winning. Again, Coach Robinson and the team, major props.
Now you bring up a great point about the payout. I have that same concerns with the Magic City Classic. Sometimes we get caught up with who won the game as opposed to looking at the numbers. The city of Birmingham grosses and estimated $23 million dollars (not including the surrounding cities). However, the previous payout was $400,000 for each team. Now AAMU played UAB in the same city and was paid $300,000. UAB did not require the band or team to come to the city early, no parades, banquets or pep rallies etc. However, with the classic all those acitives are in place. I can assure you Birmingham did not gross $23 million for that game. The Magic City Classic contract is up this year. We can not continue to be blind sided by which band won halftime or which team won the game. If each school is to progress financially, we must concentrate on the numbers.
