My question is for AAMU/Alabama State ... and for Southern/Grambling ... people who say make it home-and-home is how are you going to satisfy the road team losing guaranteed money by making it home-and-home? What can the AD do to offset what was an annual bag, but would become an every-other-year bag?

I understand the "tradition" argument. However, it comes down to money for both schools.

In a way, I disagree. AAMUs stadium only holds 21K. They got 26K in last week which was good. I'm not sure how much a ticket was but let's assume $30 per head. Thats right under $800K from tickets. They do make money from parking and concessions so maybe that will cover game day expenses so I will stick with the net of $800K. The MCC gives them $1.2M and all they have to do is show up. Now, let's move to the next year, they could make 1.2M from MCC but instead, they have to SPEND money to get to Montgomery. Let's also keep this positive and say they make $400K in sponsorships and season ticket sales for those who want to ensure a ticket to the AlaState game, they would still be missing out on $1.2M the next year.

I don't see what the problem is here. They are basically getting the same (and more than likely MUCH MORE) as they would get paid if they had the game on campus EXCEPT they also get that when they would have been on the road.

Right. They are not the same and they should not be compared.
 
Black people live in dreamland and have no understanding of economics. There is a reason why 90% of all first time businesses fail within 1-3 years. Numbers don't lie! The city of Huntsville will not invest in AAMU like they city of Tuscaloosa has in UA. Huntsville only gives a dam about federal contracts. Learn business folks! It would take us more money to invest in this one game then it would to just upgrade our infrastructure on campus. Stop driving the cutlass with $5000 rims and 3K stereo. It has no value. Put this money into dorms, research and your brand. HBCUs have MBA programs. Make them earn them degrees by marketing your brand! It's not hard black people. It's not hard! You got engineering programs and computer science programs! Make them earn it by coming up with real world solutions to fix this mess! Whew lawd!
 
🤔..Im somewhat hesitant to say this just before a big game but this is perhaps one of this Board's best and most well thought out posts/commentaries written so far!
 
Alabama and Auburn each have the capacity in their own stadiums to host the Iron Bowl and to move the game from Birmingham. However, AAMU and Bama State’s stadiums have an average capacity of 25k. To that end, how can either school host the MCC at their home stadium, when the MCC has an average attendance of 60k plus?

I am in the mix has to what is going on in Tuscaloosa. I remember when the stadium seated less than 60,000, Tuscaloosa High School Black Bears played home games in "Denny Stadium" not Bryant Denny Stadium, Al Dupont was the Mayor, The main hotel downtown was the Stafford Inn, Best Western in Northport, Holiday in and Ramada Inn on Skyland Blvd etc. I agree, Walt Maddox is totally invested in the University of Alabama. He better stay loyal or he will be ousted as Mayor. However, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, and Lorman made it happen. In 4 years AAMU will have an opportunity to decide their faith based on what resources are available. Birmingham or Huntsville? I am curious to see how the this will play out.

According to another thread, there were no hotels for Tuskegee football team.

I think its a good idea for you to play at home.
 
Now the ASC knows we mean business. I just don't trust Huntsville until they stay putting money where their mouth is.

That's my exact thought. I am not for moving the game to Huntsville nor leaving it in Bham. I am for what is best for both institutions. I am unsure what is best. However, let 4 years of study decide what is best.

Let's pass years of study and the next two years decide what course to take. Doing that, you will be prepared in four years if you decide to make a move. I still say confer with Alabama State about everything.

Its street committee math, just to match the ticket revenue, the ticket prices will have to be tripled. You get 1/3 the revenue from advertisers since you have 1/3 the viewers.... but the street committee does not understand economics like you said.

I really find that hard to believe… they are building hotels and apartments on every corner in Huntsville now.
 
Someone mentioned that the Willie Lynch letter was fake. It's in full force in this thread. No hotels for Tuskegee's football team? Really?

How many hotels are in Lorman, Mississippi? Alcorn does a great job of hosting the Jackson State game.

Let me make this clear, A lot of Bama fans stay in surrounding cities for games due to the fact that there are not enough hotels in Tuscaloosa.

I found that hard to believe as well, there are lots of hotels and air b&bs in Madison county.

A lot of people going to UA games stay in Jefferson and Shelby counties. It has a major impact on room rates for the MCC on the years when the MCC and UA play at home on the same weekend.

I'm going to keep it 100 also. The MCC has grown into more than just a game. Moving it will kill that atmosphere. Going back and forth to the respective schools will be great, but let's be honest it's the pageantry that has made this game grow. It's the best recruiting tool that grown both schools. The battle of the bands, the parade, the step shows, the alumni events, the tailgating. It's the Magic that comes to lights in Birmingham. Moving it will kil that. I'm not a hater I'm a realist. Folks bring their students and families from everywhere to this game. At some point we gotta look at the overall picture. I'm just giving a view from someone who wasn't raised in this state. The MCC is unique in it's own way. Meeting the middle brings folks out of the country Bama woods from south Alabama to North Alabama who will not travel if it moves that will alone kill the magic of the Magic City Classic. The MCC is a family reunion of hate and love. You will not get that going back and forth to Huntsville and Montgomery. I hate Birmingham, but I go to the game because I'm going to see folks I love and grew up with. It's the magic of a family reunion. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Well stated CEE! What we have is tradition vs economic impact for all involved. How can both schools keep the tradition and continue to increase their economic impact based on what each think is deserved. Again, well stated..

Well stated. You captured the magic of the MCC. The issue is with the payout to ASC who has contributed to the growth of the event. Hopefully it will be resolved in the next 4 years.

Both schools alumni need to find out who is the ASC? what people make up the ASC? the website is very vague and the only thing I got from the mission statement is that they promote the game to Alabama...
 
Well thats why folks kept asking how do you supplement the money because it never really made sense. Most of FCS and even a portion of FBS would love to have a guaranteed million dollar game every year.
 
I am proud of the schools growing the revenue over that previous contracts, the growth has been remarkable.

What is not shown is the other scholarship money given to each University by the corporate sponsors, that is on top of the 1.5 million dollars.

CEE and JC great job.
