Your comment is factually incorrect. There is no exemption for the House or Senate. In the house version there is an insurance exchange similar to the insurance set-up that both the House and Senate use; as well as every other government employee.

There is a public option in the House version * House version covers 36 million people leaving 18 million uninsured.*

In the Senate version the OPM would sign contracts with insurers to offer at least two national health plans to individuals, families and small businesses. At least one of the plans would have to operate on a nonprofit basis.The MILLIONS without care you speak about is largely illegal immigrants however in both versions they could still buy insurance from the exchanges, but cannot get federal subsidies to help pay the costs.*Senate version covers 31 million leaving 23 million uninsured.*

Both Bills would outlaw price fixing, bid rigging and “market allocations” by insurance companies and goes so far as striping insurance companies of their antitrust exemption. Insurance companies would be required to spend more of their premium revenues about 85 cents of every dollar on medical claims. Right now most insurance companies spend less then 50 cents of every dollar on medical claims. They will also be required to justify rate increases.

The House version cost about $1.052 trillion and is expected to reduce deficits by $139 billion. Senate Version cost about $871 billion and is expected to reduce projected federal budget deficits by $132 billion.

Is everyone still forced to buy insurance or pay a fine? And is there a minimum required insurance you must have to avoid paying a fine?

I agree, they do need improving, but not having them would be even worse. The same goes with healthcare. Nobody should die because their insurance denied to cover them because of a pre-existing condition. What is YOUR solution to this health care issue? Keep the status quo?

I was watching C-Span and the reason why they're is no health care provider option is because they had to drive the competition factor down to 0 so that they could make it affordable to everyone. Look at it like this if they were to leave it in the hands of the health companies and they are many, then they would drive the market with stiff prices (because the gov't under the old health care plan which allowed them to dictate the prices {healthcare companies} without any inreference from the gov't) of insurance making it harder for you to purchase insurance. Also on my job I was paying at the time I was paying 300 for my deductable and I know a man that was paying 1000 dollars for his so with the new healthcare plan in will be dropped to about 225 and the guy with the 1000 dollar deductable will be paying around 450-600 [give or take a few].

Governors of both parties are complaining that reform will drive their budgets into even deeper holes, with some feeling the effects far more than others. 1. A Bigger Medicaid Tab
Of the 31 million uninsured people who would gain coverage under a revamped health system, about half would do so through a vast expansion of Medicaid - the state-and-federal health care program for the poor. The Senate bill would make eligible anyone earning up to 133% of the federal poverty level (for a family of four, an income of about $29,300 a year); the House bill would lift that threshold to 150% of poverty (or about $33,000 for a family of four).

It amazes me how ALL republicans reject everything President Obama or democrats try to do. All speak about deficits and taxes. Solve every problem with tax cuts. Tax cuts for the rich and unpaid for wars are the primary reason we have the deficit we have today. The federal deficit has increased under the leadership of every republican president starting with and since Reagan. Healthcare in the riches nation in the world should be guaranteed for all. But we have become so selfish as a nation that republicans worry about five dollars missing from their check. How can you call yourself a Christian and absolutely nothing about you is Christ like. How can you call yourself a Christian and continue to put poisonous gases in the air at increasing rates because it is cheap and profitable for you and deny that it is impacting the environment. The entire augument against global warming is about money. A industry that is ranking in billions don't want to give up any of there profits. Fighting unpaid for wars is going to raise taxes, republicans where were you then? Republicans have been on the wrong side of history on every signicant social reform in this country.

I don't agree that the health care bills are totally bad, and I will hold judgement until the final bill is produced. However, I agree with SOG the deme should have said Fff the republicans. I know, he didn't exactly say that but that is what he is thinking.

If me paying extra taxes is going to keep somebody's mom, dad, sister, or brother alive, I will pay that tax. I make damn good money, and I am blessed and highly favored.
 
Fact is: The republicans ain't stopping nothing. The dems have majorities in both the house and the senate. If they want to do anything, all they have to do is vote! They have the numbers.

Regardless the Private health insurance industry is out of control and there needs to be reform/options.

I am very dissappointed in Congressional Dems b/c they dropped the ball big time. But as someone pointed out above...All Dems aren't the same and don't vote the same (unlike Republicans). My thing is...a rep should vote according to his/her constituents and their needs. If majority of his/her area has insurance, doing well off...taxes would skyrocket with the passing of the reform bill...then Yes that Rep should vote against the Bill. But that is not the case for most of the Congressmen both Dem and Repubs.

Hopefully everyone remember what their Congressman/Senator voted for when election time rolls around...I know I will. Mine voted FOR a public option :tup:

i'm am with you on alot of this. I've gotten lost with all the changes myself. (Thanx Toi for the doc, I will sit down and read them :tup:) The surprise(well really no surprise) with my current congressman is he voted against it, while the district he represents needs it, however he is also currently running for governor, so i'm at the point where i'm really trying to decipher his reasons(in addition to all the changes). But as a black dem running for governor in a (white)conservative state, what do you do when your concern has become not just your current constituents?

There are a lot of people in our area who have voiced their disdain about it and have been speaking about not supporting him in the gubernatorial race. And of course he has caught flack from Jessie. While I was disappointed that he did not vote for it, I don't want that to be my only reason for not supporting him for governor, as there are other things also on the table. I'm not sure about the state as a whole, but its gonna be interesting nonetheless.

Most of(as far as I know) the candidates that are running for his seat do support it, the one I plan on supporting does so I'm glad for that.

Who in here think the folk that cloud the ER rooms for "free" would pay for any type of health care option?

We are talking about reduced/free lunch type of isht...

I still remember daym near 100% of my elementary school receiving "free" lunch... then when chances were made when it was a republican ran house... Folks that had to free lunch had to pay $ .75 for lunch pitched a fit... a heavy fit...

Point is... these people who the DEMS say they are fighting for don't want to pay for nothing.. and will not pay for nothing if they know a way around the system... What ends up happening is folk that try and work their darn asses off to not need the government ends up paying for it all...


This sick shyt needs to stop!

Yall trusting these politicians and you can make ONE list of things "your" respective party did to make your living situation better...

This may be sad... but the ONLY "good" convo. you all ever have these days at the hands of ANY party and that during TAX time... when we all getting "some" of our money back..... And you have to give Repubs more credit for that than Dems... because the Dems would rather take MORE of YOUR money to keep funding their companies so they stay in office and live like fat rats, flying around in private jets with the BEST health care has to offer while they make US fight amongst each other over this PUBLIC RESTROOM...err option BS...
