East Division:

AAMU has the opportunity to be the most improved team in the division, if not the conference. Still have questions at QB. Defense will improve. Lot of young starters return. Could challenge Alcorn for Eastern division if QB pans out.

ASU could struggle early, if not all year; Duhart and Cyrus are gone, no Spring practice + new coaching staff. Defense could be saving grace.

Alcorn is still in a class of its own for 2015. Gibbs returns for his senior season. Favored to win the Eastern division. Defense loses 3 starters that combined for 22 sacks.

JSU can rebound from disappointing 2014 w/continued progress from QB LaMontez Ivy. Coaching staff could hold back an otherwise talented roster.

MVSU loses a lot of defense, which was MVSU’s only sparkle last year. Came in dead last scoring offense last year by a mile. Loses QB Patrick Ivy. Comegy has his work cut out for him. Could see some improvements.


West Division:

UAPB is a toss-up; Loses 4 year starter at QB. Offensive coaching must improve and get new QB up to speed. Large recruiting class w/5 UAB transfers.

Grambling returns QB Johnathan Williams who led the SWAC in passing average per game and passing efficiency. Will also challenge for the Western division.

Prairie View will have to replace QB Lovelocke but return RB Herbert who had 1000+ yards and 12 TDs. Also loses LB combo of Howard and Brownell who combined for 11 sacks and 212 tackles.

SU will threaten to win the West with returning Sophomore QB Howard and RB Tillery. Defense will have to replace key starters. WR/Returner Quinn will also be a difference maker.

TxSU has a chance to rebound from 2014's epic collapse. Defense was 2nd overall in 2014; loses DB Tray Walker to the NFL + other key defenders. JUCO signees could be difference makers.

Dude, why would teams watch out for AAMU and UAPB. UAPB had ONE good player. He is gone. They might not even beat Valley this year. AAMU didn't get any better as their season went on. They ended the season 0-3 and lost to a bad UAPB team to end the season.

Every year, we always do this. We say the SWAC might be tougher or whatever. There is only ONE team to look out for and that is JSU. We are probalby the only dark horse AND we ended the season on a good note. I think most people expect good things from Alcorn and AlaState on the EAST and from GSU and SU in the WEST but it should be clear to everyone that AAMU, Valley, UAPB, PV and TxSo will be pretty bad. Seriously...

If I had to rank teams I would say (and this is just by default as Alcorn nor SU will be as good in 2015 as they were in 2014)

1. Alcorn - Giving them benefit of doubt here. They replaced Simmons with Kaiss who does well with run-based teams. However, he is not remotely creative.
2. Grambling - Has the most upside of any team and might be the favorite to win the SWAC. They did the impossible last year but ended the season with losses to AlaState and SU... they did put up good fights tho.
3. SU -This year, they have decent QB going into the fall.. however the rest of talent on that team is on a downward spiral. And the coaching has always been bad.
4. Alabama State: New coaches, new system, same players, same school. They will contend as always but fall short... as always..
5. Jackson State: No one knows what to expect from JSU but a lot games last year were close or lost in the 4th quarter (GSU, Valley, PV) and improvements made across the board have the Tigers hopeful that Houston is a possibility. However, being a 3rd place in the EAST for the second year in a row may not be enough to keep OMJ at the helm.

Then it gets tough to even rank:

6. AAMU.. out of the bad teams, I think they get at least some benefit of the doubt since they have a history of moderate sucess
7. PV: They will be pretty bad but most think Simmons will upgrade them
8. TxSo: Just a lost cause
9. Valley: They are Valley.
10. UAPB. In worse shape than Valley.. and that's hard to do.

Wasn't #4 a starter? I think he graduated as did some of the starters on the o-line. Were those Samoans not starters?

#4 only became the starter after Rags #22 got hurt plus Baker and Price are back with Juco Transfer Delance Turner so RB is the least of our worries, and nope whole O-line coming back, with depth + every WR... We not losing nothing on Offense, Is just our D-line we have to replace and our All-American Safety Francois
So as long as they dont settle I think we'll be better then last year towards the end of the year when the replacements get in the groove

No about JSU?

GSU's problem was coaching and lack of leadership. This was seen utilizing the same QB the following year.

JSU is in the same situation. YOUR COACH SUCKS!!!! PERIOD!!!!

You all will be a mediocre team because your coach is mediocre.

Dude, you were a dropped spiked ball away from being 6-6 and OMJ being 6-6. Don't go there.

Also, if you say #4 was not a starter, I will take your word for it but he looked like the got starter time to me even when Ragsdale was playing.

The best win you got last year was vs a down JSU team. On top of that, you run a system where you need talent and AAMU does not get offensive talent.

Nevermind the fact that we just had a WR break John Stallworth's all time receiving record....without a decent QB in his senior season...and have 3 other gamebreaking receivers on the roster.

All we're missing is a QB.

But you wouldn't know that because you got OMJ's sweat all over your face.

Nope. I will be the first person to want OMJ fired if he does not produce. You all have a 4-8 coach and acting like you have something to be proud. That's a hot seat in Jackson but not at AAMU becasue you all make excuses for the coach.. ie young pups... smh. They got drug all year but you think it's gonna improve? As for Stallworths record, am sure any 3rd string receiver at JSU could have done that. It's not like AAMU has a ledger of outstanding WR. OMJ was a record breaker and he gonna be a heart breaker this fall.

Once he gets that, it will certainly be beast mode for him. He's god awfully physically gifted. I like hearing from others @ Blinn, aTm-B/CS, SHSU, and HBU how they view our young men's performance during 7-on-7.
