Re: SWAC Championship attendance

Dude, JSU is the reason those numbers were high. Had nothing to do with Birmingham.

When JSU shows up in Houston, then we can straighten those numbers again. I put the attendance out there to show how many showed up in B'ham and the possibility of Houston needing to do even better. That's all, simply put. It clearly shows that JSU had less fans to show up in Houston than in B'ham.

Re: SWAC Championship attendance

That has a lot to do with why Houston is a better option to host this game. Plus the attendance will go up especially if the right teams play

We truly await the increase.

2013 Jackson State 27 Southern 34 38,985 QB Dray Joseph & DB Anthony Balancier, Southern [34]
2014 Alcorn State 38 Southern 24 38,969 QB John Gibbs, Jr. [35]

The decrease in attendance in Houston was only (16) fans from 2013-2014. We have to do better.

Re: SWAC Championship attendance

NRG Stadium "pimped" me! I brought 15 of my Kappa Leaguers from San Antonio for the game. Young men in ages ranging from 12-17. I had promised their parents that the prices would be no more than $25 based on the availability online. We get to the ticket booth and I get told that there only 7 seats left in the section next to Southern's Band for $20 and 34 seats on Alcorn's side for $35. The ticket agent says that the next ticket agent might sell all of the tickets in Alcorn's section so I better get these $35 tickets now. Of course I had to explain to the guys of this change and their expressions changed quickly. The price changed only affected 1 of my Kappa Leaguers. Ok. We get to our seats and I notice that there were plenty of $20 seats open in that section on Southern's side. I was "heated" to say the least!!! Shame on that lady to take advantage of teenagers just to sell tickets at a higher cost
That's pretty good! The SWAC made some money!

I think there was more at this game than the 2013 game. I know the lower bowl was fuller than last years with both endzones being utilized more. I need to go look at my pics from last year and compare them to this years pics.

This is a video I took at the end of the game. A lot of people still in the stands.

Re: SWAC Championship attendance

We do need to have a hospitality suite/place for all of us to gather and mingle the night before this game.

Those years in bold were the two most highest attended games to-date in Bham. Houston have to improve over those numbers, regardless of it's many venues. I don't have a problem with the City of Houston.

I think Houston would have hit 45K+ last year had it not been for the bad weather. I don't think some of you all realize how many people could not get to Houston... even from Dallas... Also, many flights were cancelled. UAPBs band could not even get to the Battle of the Bands.

Speaking of the Battle of the Bands. Frankie Beverly was a GREAT idea. Like 70% of the crowd stayed to see Frankie and everyone was in there having a great time partying!

I felt that there were more people this year as well. However, the endzones were less full this year.

Bham is a better place for JSU fans, no doubt but Houston is a better place for the game.. WITHOUT QUESTION! Last year in Houston it was 25 degrees and we drew 38K. If it was that could in Bham.......

Re: SWAC Championship attendance

Man Brave natation showed up and out yesterday I was shocked!!! And talk trash to SU fans lol

I was not shocked. Mississippi is deep in Houston.
Also, Alcorn probably has the 3rd largest fan base in the SWAC behind JSU and Southern. They have just not had much reason to show up before!

Re: SWAC Championship attendance

GF,
The way to gauge those numbers is to compare like years. Thats why i said the scg birth. The first 2 years in Houston are about the same as the first 2 years in Bham.

If Alabama State ever makes to Houston, you will change your mind... LOL Trust me! I'm going back next year...

Re: SWAC Championship attendance

The SWAC is wild. So we never know. But on paper based on returning starters. Alcorn will be favorite in the East. SU will be favored in the West slightly over Gram. BC may be for the West title again. SU has about 15-16 starters coming back and 2 preseason All sWac players returning from sitting out. Our big WR Randall Menard will be back from injury to join Willie Quinn and Mike Jones. Qb should make a big jump from his True Fr year.

Alcorn and SU will be favored to win their divisions but I think Alcorn lost a lot of key seniors. They should still be in good position to win the EAST but they won't... LOL

yeah I agree frat. I was able to get by C-Leb's and the TxSU folks tailgate after the game in the parking lot. We had a KKPSI one before the game with the TxSU bruhs.

JSU had a lot to do with those numbers bruh, you must be blind to think otherwise

Re: SWAC Championship attendance

Frankie Beverly and Maze was an idea the SWAC used from the Magic City Classic.... watch they will have Bell Biv Devoe next year. Good to see ideas being shared between schools and conferences..... maybe they should have a Bayou Classic style battle of the bands the night before.

Not a bad idea DaHill.

Re: SWAC Championship attendance

True....Just a feel, I don't see it happening anytime soon. It will be interesting to see how recruiting goes for you all. Bama State seems to be in disarray as well. My guess is for the next few years, Mississippi is going to rock the east. We'll see...

JROCK... we were a hurt qb away from kicking SU arse this year with 80% freshmen starting. We were up 3 touchdowns when our qb went out and you still won in the last 20 seconds of the game.

It will be interesting. Our team is very young too. Not many Srs started this year. Of course our Qb is a true Freshman and we expect he will have a better handle of things next Fall.

There was not ONE SWAC team that had a clue on defense this year. If it stays that way, you all might be ok.

They were at the Swac Basketball tournament last year.
