Re: SWAC Championship attendance

Makes sense...

Were these pictures before the game last night or after? Great exposure for the SWAC in having two major Texas HS playing on a field decorated out for SWAC title game the night before.

It was before,

Re: SWAC Championship attendance

I'm out in the Blue Lot 21 right now.

It's looking like it'll be a very nice turnout. As a matter of fact, our alumni association bought 4 blocks (100 per block) of tickets for the game.

Re: SWAC Championship attendance

The attendance for the Pac-12 title game was 45,618 in Santa Clara (and the pics show that was a lot less). Yikes

Re: SWAC Championship attendance

Houston is the best spot for this game! Frankie Beverly has the stadium rocking as I type.

Re: SWAC Championship attendance

SU folks up in this beyotch partying. Lol.

Re: SWAC Championship attendance

I agree, it's doing well so far.

Going to be interesting on what they do to grow it bigger. But for sure Houston and Harris County is fully supporting the SWAC being here. Might as well move Duer's sorry arse to H-town.lol.

Re: SWAC Championship attendance

TV ads would help get the crossover football dollar. Back in the day when GSU and sTu played they ran TV ads billing the contest A Game and a Half. There would be almost as many white folk there as Black.

You must have never been in to CIAA.... CIAA is the largest HBCU function period.... bigger than the Magic City Classic and Bayou Classic. .... its Freaknic with a basketball tournament going on

I think he is saying it has potential. Houston is much bigger than Charlotte and traffic was all over the place this weekend. Folks were definitely in the city and the locals were out big time. It may never Seem like or feel like the CIAA because Houston has so many spots and areas to hang for the old, young, hood, country, whatever you want to do and more spread out than Charlotte. Plus nobody has the number of restaurants per capita than Htown.

I went to CIAA 2002 and it was pretty live, I don't even think it was in Charlotte then. I'm not saying it will ever be as large but the SWAC championship has the potential to be up there with the CIAA tourney as a big event just like it. It's very hard to create a buzz in Houston but the SWAC championship game is on to something with this. Houston is 5 times bigger than Charlotte but the SCG had the city buzzing.

Re: SWAC Championship attendance

Yall can go on and on about the clubs, restaurants and everything that Houston has to offer, but 2 years in, and there isn't much difference in attendance than the scg birth in Bham . (Although the expenses have no doubt gone up)
There is a ceiling that this game has. Thats not a knock against Houston. Some of us tried to get folks to see that Bham wasnt the problem with the attendance.

38K was good attendance

I think it depends on the teams, the year PV went it was awful because the AAMU folks were basically home and barely came to the game. That night we had 38 degree weather with a driving rain and the plane tickets were expensive to get there. I didn't enjoy the game in BHam, but that's just me I guess :read:
