PV, same lousy schedule. We do not get to open Reliant Stadium as expected.

Unless you heard something recently, The Texans manangement have been taunting this as the first non-Texan game to open the new stadium and PV is the home team for the Labor Day Classic.

At last report, JSU was still scheduled to play in Atlanta. The promoter said that we had already signed a two-year deal with a third year option. At the meetings, he said that A&T wanted to play us again but they wanted it earlier in the year.

On the MEAC page, it was reported that A&T was playing Grambling in Cincy.

NON- CONFERENCE

USM
Northwestern State
NCAT
TNState
UAPB

I hope Jackson State doesn't schedule Northwestern State!
I remember playing them in the late eighties, they will not bring
any fans or money to Jackson. Schedule Morris Brown instead of
Northwestern State.

JSU and Southern Miss.......I'm There.....

In 1987, Jackson State played Southern Miss in Hattiesburg. And M.M. Roberts Stadium hadn't been sold-out since. I was there. There were people everywhere. And the Metro Conference Officials teamed up with Southern Miss and beat JState 17-7. But JState actually won the game. Statistically we won. And if it weren't for a few flukey-duke calls, we would've won. Have you ever hear of Illegal Procedure being called (USM had the ball), and the ball being moved 10-yards UP!!!!! They penalized the defense for Illegal Procedure. The robbed JState. And we've been wanting a rematch ever since. So I don't care who else we play (and where). As long as we can beat them, I'll be satidfied. And we have the team to do it. USM loses at least four on defense and the starting QB, RB and HB. And Robert Kent will be under center. I smell an upset. I just hope we can get a defense.

But anyway, about Northwestern State. We used to play 'em awhile ago. And while they might not bring but 1 busload of fans, I wouldn't expect half of Atlanta to come to Jackson if they played Morris Brown. And besides, MoBrown is still Division II. We don't need to play anybody in Division II, I don't care who they are. Well maybe Delta State.

But I do believe the final schedule will have only 11 games. Culberson's not stupid enough to schedule 12. We got tohave a 'bye' week somewhere.

TAYLOR -MADE,
I agree. I think JSU will pull of an upset against USM. We have the football team to do it. If we can get rid of the turnovers like we had this year, there will be no team that can beat us.

DAHILL

TN State for Homecoming, man I pray that is true. According to TSU Schedule we will be playing WKU on Oct. 12. What happen - is A&M scud to play in the John Merritt Classic.

Seriously, everyone know HBCU's schedule will change 3-5 times before the season start. The only games I can bank on outside of the OVC is the games between JSU and FAMU.

Morris Brown is a Division 1- AA Independent. Unlike Northwestern, Morris Brown has an Awesome Marching Band, which also can sell tickets. If you schedule a PWC, schedule a
Division 1- A team, not a Division 1- AA team, they don't have the
fan support or pay big guarantees like the Division 1- A teams.
You'll play the Division 1- A teams on the road, but you make more money than playing a PWC Division 1- AA team at home.

As a fan, I'd much rather play Northwestern State than MoB. What's the point in dragging MoB up and down a field. And regardless of their band, won't be no more butts in the stands for MoB than Northwestern State.

When we get to where our fans are coming to see our team, and not somebody else's band . . . (sigh)

Well, regardless of the MoBrown/Northwestern St. argument, scheduling always fills the needs and desires of the FOOTBALL TEAM!!!!!!!! And I don't see the Athletic Staff deciding to play one school (because they have a bigger band) as opposed to playing a quality team. The games are about football, not the bands. And we all know that football is what ultimately brings folks to games. If the bands scheduled 'games', you't only have the die-hard bandheadz show up.

And if Morris Brown is a 1-AA Independent, then I stand corrected.

I still think they'll play NW St. before they play MoBrown......

One of GSU's players (a 2000 signee who redshirted, but will be a four year starter at offensive tackle--6'7" 375lbs, 480 bench press, ) came by to visit today. Told me that GSU will be playing the University of Hawaii over in Hawaii this year.

I was stationed in Hawaii, they play all their games early in the day. Tell Doug to get there early in the week, if not the change of time will effect your players. 6 hours time difference. Look how they ambushed BYU.

Btw, they take tailgating to a difference level. Roast pig and all. The whole parking lot looked like it on fire. Pre-game and post game tailgating. My first pro bowl I was drunk before the game started. :D

Who said Mo Brown's band was popular in Jackson???

Unless it's the first game of the year, Jacksonians ain't gonna turn out for no game against MoB.

MAYBE A TRIP TO ATLANTA IS IN THE WORKS!

MACH,

I did not want to stir up any controversy but I heard that too. That's right JSU vs Gram in the ATL. I honestly can't believe that Gram would give up home field and their best attended home game to play JSU in ATL but if so, I ain't mad. I would like to play A&T for revenge but they have no name recognition. Gram would be great for attendance.

JST,

Playing BCC would be cool for competiveness but I think that attendance wise, (since FAMU and TSU won't be considered), we would do better with:

1. SC State--They have a history in the ATL Classic and they are only 3 hours away.
2. NCA&T-- I think that they will want to play JSU again. We outclassed them in every way that weekend except on the scoreboard. Keeping the matchup consistent will help attendance. Halftime was an embarrassment to A&T.
3 Mo Brown-- They have a pretty good home base and they would love to play JSU, SU, or Gram. They would have alums from everywhere coming out to that game. Believe it or not, they would draw. The only question is whether the JSU fan would be interested in this match-up.

in the GA Dome.

Trust me.. I live in the ATL and Mo Brown can't even get people to come to their own Stadium( so playing them in the Dome would be worse than what A&T fans displayed in ATL. I would pick A&T before MB. MB avg less than 9500K per game if that many. JSU would dominate again in a city that is more than 5hrs from Jackson.

Who said Northwestern band was popular in Jackson? Morris Brown would be a better drawn in Jackson than Northwestern.

Who are you??? And where did you read anyone saying that Northwestern State's band would be a big draw in Jackson??? Nowhere, that's where. I don't even know if Northwestern State even has a band. Don't care. But they do have a much better football team than MoB. MACHIAVELLI, on the other hand, seems to think that MoB would be a big draw in Jackson because they got a great band. We don't know nothing about MoB's band.

And I will stand by my assertion that nobody in Jackson knows enough about MoB's band to come flocking to a JSU-MoB game because of MoB's band. We could play some NAIA PWC from Montana, and the game would draw the same as a game with MoB.

Yeah, dude. That's a yearly thang. I assume that Gram might move it's home game with JSU to the ATL for the 2nd Annual Peach State Classic.

Sounds like this guy knows nothing about Black College Football Fans? Most come late and leave after halftime.

Robber, now I KNOW you are NOT going to let him get away with that.:lmao:
I'm not concerned about what this guy thinks he knows. I don't know what school he reps, but whatever fans arrive late ain't got a thing to do with the bands. And some folk do leave after halftime, but it's so few that the effects on the crowd are minimal, at JSU. Unless the game is a blowout, folk will stay at least until the fourth quarter.

But what he said still don't change the fact that Jacksonians don't know Jack Shiznit about MoB's band. When you got the BOOM, you don't sweat other folk's band. MoB betta be the 1st game or homecoming, or it won't be no more than 15,000 at the game.

SU fans,

Y'all have played MoB recently. Prior to that game, how much did y'all know of MoB's band??? Did y'all base your decision to go to the game on how good MoB's band was supposed to be???

I have to disagree with you about this. Black college football is about the total package of the game, which includes the bands. Thats why there are so many fans coming to see all of the classics we have. Some are there for the football, some are there for the bands and some are there to catch all the pretty women or handsome men that are there. Black college football is the only place where it is truely an event and not just a game. If playing a particular school that will put more people in the seats because they will bring their band, it will happen just because more people means more money being spent. It's just like when we play those 1A schools knowing we're going to get our arse whomped, mo money, mo money, mo money. Football pays for so much of the athletic dept budget that it only makes sense to look at that angle.
