SWAC TV

It's free at the end of the day so I won't complain - to what we're wanting now cuts into potential profits - more things to make it work flawlessly requires more investment and the bottom line -
I would have been good with a 20.00/yr subscription fee.

The current production quality for SWAC TV is not where it needs to be. It needs to be upgraded to the best available video capabilities to ensure a significantly improved viewing experience. I am all for paying for a subscription for the year in the $100 range for the year if it's going to allow for the absolute best quality.

All schools need to step up their network infrastructure. I said $20/yr to make it palatable to the masses. I am good with a $100/yr for everything.

To give you a behind the scenes POV, it's basically SWAC people with a computer, monitor and cameras at different areas in the stadium. At Alcorn, I'm literally standing next to the people running one of the computers

I think what he is talking about is everyone being at the same level as far as coverage. He is correct in that retrospect. I would want the broadcast team but not the camera people from the JSU game. The Grambling game was better overall.
Trust me I know - lol -

Just a small note because I know how much work it takes to do this, so not bad at all for a debut year. However, for NEXT year, let’s try to all get the same cameras, gfx packages, and mics with the SWAC logo for the talent.

Also, I think each school should come up with a 20-30 sec insert showing their sports programs and how they can support their collectives. This will help for more commercial content. For classics, let’s get these coaches to shoot a fun promotion to help advertise them as well. I see it for Vegas. Next year let’s do the Orange Blossom Classic, State Fair Classic, boombox classic, mobile classic, Florida classic, Bayou classic, the Magic city classic etc. Air them when the involved teams are in the prime time slot. Vegas did a good job with promotions.

Just doing these things in year two will make the product look a lot better. Keep it up SWAC.

Funny you mention this because during the Valley/SELA on ESPN+, Valley ran the same promo with students that graduated 5-6 years ago smh

I'm sure someone from SWAC HQ will see this suggestion and make a note of it

1) I suggested years ago that everyone needs to be on the same streaming standard. It's still noticeable the differences in 2025

2) The objective is to grow SWACTV. That means getting as many eyeballs as possible. You won't get that behind a paywall. As the commissioner has said on a few occasions, the SWAC is a top 10 D1 conference with a unique brand that people wanna watch. We can do everything needed to grow SWACTV with sponsorship $$$ without the need to charge. The numbers prove that.

We have offered some suggestions to improve SWACTV but I think I can speak for everyone in saying that we know this is just year 1 so we expect hiccups but are happy we can finally watch all SWAC sports

Network infrastructure and stability is a big part of the quality of the stream.

Haha. Yeah, it’s time to do a good reset I’m tired of seeing the same commercial with the Alabama state players that graduated a good 4 years ago.

Time to get out there and sell some ads. Those same Pepsi, GM & Home Depot commercials are getting tired and old. Get something from those participating schools Alumni Associations to help promote them too.

I agree with you. We need to heavily invest in our network infrastructure. All of our schools!
I haven’t seen our football broadcast … but as far as basketball… AAMU’s broadcast is years ahead of any other broadcast in the SWAC. We use about 10 different cameras around the arena… most of the broadcast I see of SWAC schools has one camera angle the entire game and some horrible broadcasters.

Well I am just glad to be able to see HBCU sports. I remember when all we got we four games on BET. I now can watch HBCU football on all seven continents. I don't think you all realize how good it is to be able to watch HBCU football when you are in other countries. It is wonderful to see it. Instead of having to find out the scores when you get back home. For instance I watched the Clark game last week when I was in a seven hour different time zone. Otherwise I would be looking at the one channel in English BBC. 😂 Or watching their language trying to see if I can ever figure it out and realizing the American education system failed me. 😂

One has to weigh what the commissioner has to when speaking of subscription/charges. If the objective is to measure viewership to establish a value to leverage deals, then SWAC TV is doing what it should from that vanish point.

It's definitely heading in the right direction

If we are pulling better numbers than when we were on ESPN+, then it's definitely doing its job. Use the numbers after this year from football and basketball and go get those sponsors

I was looking forward to see Valley soccer on SWACTV 🤨 but at least there is volleyball

until everyone has a defined plan on streaming - keep some sports on the school sites and showcase only decision-making or high interest events - I've seen soccer and VB shot 3 different ways

I was expecting to soccer and volleyball on it too

You simulcast it on both channels. That gets eyes that normally won't go to the schools sites to see the games & matches and not take away from the schools sites.

Uhhhhhhhhh.....has that been cleared?

That requires investment to get every school on the same streaming standard. I've said that for years and even on this very post.

SWAC TV has at least shown games in volleyball and soccer that normally wouldn't be shown at most schools (I know Valley was sporadic in volleyball coverage on the official sports channel and soccer was rarely shown)

I do agree that I am not big on the school sites basically being abandoned and would like to see them used to at used in a simulcast to help train up and coming broadcasters and camera people similar to ESPN+. Jorge actually did the PV game on SWACTV Saturday. Thought we left him behind smh

There's no reason SWAC alums shouldn't be doing those games

Jorge is attached to Butch's hip, they have done all the games PV has been in on SWAC TV

There has been some Swac alaums doing the games, Mo Carter, Charles Bishop, Charles Porter, Santoria Black, Reggie Flood

@Fiyah & @In_The_662 - Butch Alsandor & Jorge have been doing SWAC TV broadcasts together for more than a decade. It actually goes back to when Dr. McClelland was the AD at Texas Southern and the Tigers had all of their home games on air on AT&T SportsNet Southwest and KHOU's sub digital channels.

Lots of times (but not all the time), the talent situations are geographic. So it's a big reason why you'll see:

- Butch and Jorge doing Texas Southern, Prairie View and other games in the State of Texas
- Santoria Black (Grambling Alumnus) doing Grambling, Arkansas Pine Bluff, Alcorn State and Jackson State
- Myself (Southern U.) doing Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Jackson State and Valley (occasionally).

Games at Southern, FAMU, Bethune-Cookman will vary because of the talent pool and availability.
I actually have the Mississippi Valley vs FAMU game in Atlanta next week and the Southern - Florida A&M on October 25th for the second year in a row because ESPNU picked the Magic City Classic.

* suggested this before but the band halftime shows should have their own cameras with input from the established band outlets (ShowtimeWeb, KillaKev, etc). Using the same cameras that you use for the game with shaky camera people lead to some awkward angles when the Boom was on the field. Also the halftime shows should have separate sponsors

Apparently they listened because they showed the entire Halftime Show for Bethune.

The angles were much better this time.

Why are all the basketball tournament games being broadcasted on espn+ and not on SWAC TV?
I understand about the Championship game being on ESPN but all of the tournament games are going away from what you're trying to build on SWAC TV.
