Saban whines to Trump about NIL





The rumor is the players at Bama were taking the "Saban" discount. However, one player at the end of the year coach- player meeting gave Saban the following demand. I want a million dollars by tonight and my girlfriends law school paid in advanced. Not sure if that is true, but Saban retired at the end of that year. Now you have players holding out like pro players (Tennessee former quarterback). Former Georgia quarterback making 4 million at Miami. Jalen Milroe made 2 million at Bama. Bryce Young while at Bama was the second highest person paid. Only Saban made more. It's a new day in college sports!

It's not the big-time dudes we are complaining about. NIL hurts program continuity. Before NIL, it wasnt common for one of our players to leave and go to smalltime FBS teams like UMass and FIU. Our star basketball player was not going to leave to go to LaTech.

To replace that production, it's not about coaching or the ability to recruit. It's only about money.
What Coach Tomika Reed did at JSU was right at the cusp of the NIL era. We probably couldnt even keep half of those girls now. We have some SWAC coaches who are good recruiters but when Western Kentucky shows up with a bag, our coach just wasted her time and lost a player who really wanted to come to one of our schools.

BUT, that's life now and we just have to deal with it.

It's not generated by the schools per se. It's booster money with companies or dummy companies they create or just a group of millionaires who get together to buy talent. I dont think the school can be directly involved. BUT I have seen where some schools are. I just dont know how that part works. I also dont think anyone cares. There are really no rules, which is part of the problem.

taking the cash to go where you don't want to go is bad - that really means no loyalty - if we have a 4-year senior now we should celebrate them like they won the lottery

And it will be bad for coaches in the long run. You can't have success if you are losing your roster because of cash.

And while folks who are enjoying this thinks it will ONLY screw over HBCUS. It will hurt a Nebraska and others in big conferences too.

Who are already screwed because they are not little dogs in power house conferences and won't sniff postseason because everyone will eat each other in conference play. We saw that in basketball with Nebraska. 21 wins but 7 conference wins.

Schools are suppose not to be directly involved with NIL, but they can name an official NIL collective of the school (it sure seems the rules of how close coaches can be to a collective is thin with many loopholes).

There was an issue in the city I am in when a second NIL collective pop up and people at the school were not happy about it. Sure enough the second NIL collective did not last long, as while the school could not just come out and tell the collective to shutdown, there was other ways to let the second collective know that they was not welcome by the school.

I do know there is back chancel communications between coaches and members of the NIL collectives (it is an open secret, at least in the city I am in).

You are probably right but most of these executive orders are only meant to start a lawsuit.

Once that is done, he knows the Supreme Court will most likely rule in his favor.

That requires an elevation of the 4 attributes of intelligence, pride, wisdom, and understanding over selfish financial greed, which most of them have hardly any of the aforementioned 4 attributes coexisting together.
