Texas Southern to get turf field from the Texans

Interesting. I thought the football turf was relatively new. It’s less than 10 years old. I guess that field is considered old when you (Texans) replace your turf every year.

"The Houston Texans are proud to partner with TSU to support the university's student athletes, coaches and staff," Houston Texans Chair and Chief Executive Officer Cal McNair said.

The partnership will focus on three core initiatives including improving athletic facilities, funding scholarship opportunities for female student athletes, and student, faculty and staff engagement. Over the next two years, the Texans will:
  • Donate the team's artificial playing surface from NRG Stadium
  • Support football field house improvements that will assist with recruiting top-tier student athletes to TSU
  • Award scholarships to five female student athletes each year
  • Create opportunities and programming that will provide access to professional development, internships and mentoring for TSU students, faculty, staff and athletics leadership

Can they help them build a stadium?

Can they help them build a stadium?
IMO, remotely possible. It would have been more likely if founding Texans owner Bob McNair was still alive. With that old money being divided up between the siblings it remains to be seen. Who knows though? Bob never did anything for my TSU, but the kids have. Relationships help, Lovie Smith coached the chairman of our board during the early days of his coaching career.

It would be nice to have a stadium on campus, however our deal with the soccer stadium is really good. 1.5 million for a 30 year lease. No Maintence costs. Just game day expenses. We also have other revenue generating incentives. We just need to win some games, so we can put more fans in the stands.
And the stadium is only 3 miles +/- from campus.

That was a helluva' deal sTu/Charles brokered. Pure profit, except the horrible parking situation (on the same gameday w/ the stros folk).

That was a awesome deal. We all know it was about politics and to sway the black voting block. It's much closer than going to either of those 2 HISD stadiums that was being used and much better overall. It is on the metro rail route and you can just hope on it to get back and forth from the campus.

We had alums on city council, commissioners court and the Harris County Sports Authority. The deal was a result of a critical need for their support, and arm twisting by them. The stadium could not and would not have been built without their support. The black voting bloc was only relevant to the extent it voted those people/alums in office, and then those elected subsequently appointed some of our alums to the sports authority.
