SWAC vs The MEAC in Celebration Bowls & Challenge Games! It’s time for a change!

As much as Jay Walker gets on my damn nerves with his MEAC bias bullshht, he is 100% correct when he talks about the MEAC being more physical. They rough us up when the bright lights are on. I have sat at plenty MEAC-SWAC Challenge Games and Celebration Bowls to continue to see his words being the gospel. Even with our SWAC fans! We cry and complain about uncalled unnecessary roughness penalties while those MEAC folks are out there being ruthless.

The MEAC teams don’t take the field vs the SWAC “Champions/Contenders” to Celebrate Black College Football! They take the field for a War of HBCU Football Pride & Glory! We have to change this madness! Some of y’all have witnessed this! Those MEAC players get wild and crazy after big time sacks, and might throw an extra shove or push after every big play! We “might” see our guys do the same thing, but not as often or with the same fire and intensity. Why is that?

Fellas, it’s that extra pride, fire and passion that the MEAC guys play with that has us down 1 Win and 5 losses in the Celebration Bowl, and 4 Wins and 11 losses in the MEAC-SWAC Challenge Game. In the Challenge Game, the SWAC has yet to hold a win over a MEAC Team that posted a wining season! PVAMU’s win over NCCU, (who ended the year 5-6), was our best showing. Southern University carriers our Challenge Game Win Total, but their wins are vs MEAC opponents that went on to have horrible 3 win records in those seasons! They weren’t contenders. Hey, it’s not SU’s fault or problem because they showed up when the ESPN lights were on, but the SWAC has to find a way to go on streak vs winning MEAC opponents. Period.

In the SWAC’s lone Celebration Bowl win, the explosive offensive of my (1-1 CB) G-Men won 10-9! To this day, I think my lord and savior for (0-1 CB) NCCU getting a celebration penalty that moved the extra point back that got blocked! Otherwise, I truly believe we would have lost that game in overtime. I could definitely be wrong, but that’s how I felt watching that ugly show!

(0-3 CB) Alcorn fought (4-0 CB) NCAT twice, but got 64 put on them in their 3rd attempt. Yesterday, we watched a 11-1 (0-1 CB) Jackson State getting bullied by a 6-5 (1-0 CB) SCSU team that entered the game as a team that barley had enough bus fare to catch the Celebration Bowl Bus! A 6-5 program that represented a Collapsing MEAC Conference that lost all of their biggest names took down the best program we currently have to offer!

We have to man up vs the MEAC on the big stage. Enough is enough. Yesterday, the MEAC really slapped us as a conference on ABC. Going 11-1 as a SWAC Program doesn’t carry much weight to the FCS Top 25 World after this one. We can’t cry about the disrespect in the polls because we continue to prove that we can’t win big games outside of our conference. I sure hope things get better! Some of y’all in our SWAC Family try to downplay this stuff, but at the end of the day, the SWAC is has only won 5-15 record vs the MEAC on the ABC and ESPN Stage. We have to start winning now! The days of seeing the SWAC win the Heritage Bowl often is long gone. It’s a new era, and we need to catch up.

A&M beat South Carolina State two times in the same year of 2021...
Regular season vs post season are two different things. Post season is more meaningful and should be the focus when it comes to establishing conference superiority and dominance over the MEAC

No my brutha, those regular season wins are “good”, but we are talking the “great” wins in “The Big Time.” Nobody posted anything about the MEAC being unbeatable. This thread was created based on what happens on the “Big Stage.”

AAMU beating SCSU is a COVID-19 drama filled Spring Season and Week 1 razor thin win doesn’t carry the same weight of playing against them for the National Black College Football Championship in the Celebration Bowl on ABC in front of 48K strong. That 42-41 win means about as much to this thread & fans rooting for the SWAC yesterday as the Week 5 Homecoming 61-15 defeat to Jackson State. Absolutely nothing. We are talking “Big Time” ESPN/ABC HBCU football. AAMU has been to only 1 of these types of games, and got drilled by NCA&T badly.

We (The SWAC), have to stop choking when the bright lights are on vs winning MEAC Opponents. Our record has been terrible in these games and we need to start winning. Yes, the MEAC is beatable, but we haven’t looked good in the Big Games vs their conference.

I agree but we're in the middle of a SWAC renassiance. The SWAC will likely win ever Celebration Bowl championship here on out.

The MEAC seems to only have SCSU, NCCU, and Howard as serious teams to look out for. We got at least 6 teams to look out for with JSU leading the way

I hear you brutha, but yesterday really should have been the start of the change.

We sent our best, but it was not good enough. We have to learn what it takes to beat the MEAC and win other out of conference games. That might require some change is recruiting and / or a change in coaching when we play OOC games.

FAMU smoked SCSU as well and Valley beat NCCU (the 2nd place team in the MEAC) so I'm sitting up looking at this post (as well as Jay yesterday) with the confused face. FAMU out-physicaled most teams this year and Valley was physical to the point of being in most games this year. JSU out physicaled most teams as well this year but SCSU was physical back with them and just outschemed them in the second half

I agree with @Basebone1898 about the SWAC stepping up on the big stage. I just don't understand what happened yesterday. I watched every snap and watched again yesterday. I'm calling conspiracy...

Always been a hater? Man, stop lying. I challenge you to post any previous “hating” comments from me on this board about AAMU. You can’t. I have only posted facts.

As far as the East goes, I have rooted for AAMU to make it to the SWAC Title Game plenty of years and have even sent players to the school in baseball and football from NOLA and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I am far from a hater, but I try to type facts. You aren’t handling the truth well. The truth is AAMU beat SCSU in Week 1 and in the Spring. You and everyone know that the Spring season was unorthodox, and a Week 1 win has nothing to do the the Celebration Bowl! You are trying to create a fake victory party because JSU lost to a team that you beat. This thread was a about the Challenge Game and Celebration Bowl. The Big Ones! There is nothing that I posted that is not a facts.

Also dude, I am a Grambling man. I have no reason to hate on AAMU. (A place that I have called the most beautiful campus in the SWAC.) AAMU isn’t a rival or divisional rival to my G-Men, and I have seen plenty of good days when watching games between us and the Dawgs. Hating on AAMU isn’t in my cards. I have no reason to hate.

Nothing but luv to ya 662, but we are talking about “The Big Games.” The Challenge and The Celebration! We have been coming up short in the main event my brutha. While @Normal1875 thinks I am hating, I was the main person rejoicing on those wins you typed above. However, there is no secret to how the MEAC has been kicking our arse on ESPN and ABC when it’s time for the best or chosen ones to shine. 16-5 is terrible bro.

I agree with the AAMU poster

That big stage thing is just something to fit a narrative. Alcorn hadn't played football in almost two years and JSU had a first year coach who pulled a first year coach ego move and wanted to ensure his son was the star against a veteran coach. That doesn't dismiss what AAMU, FAMU and Valley did this past season.

If Alabama State beats Howard in the SWAC/MEAC Challenge next year and the SWAC has a 3-1 record going into the Celebration Bowl again but loses, that doesn't negate what happened in the regular team. The SWAC team in the Celebration Bowl failed not the SWAC as a whole

But it's his first year and no coach ever has won a national title in his first year of coaching

I know, but still. This wasn’t a 11-0 NCAT Monster in there, this was a 6-5 MEAC who already fell to a SWAC opponent in the the regular season, and a team from a conference and program that was on life support! No matter what, JSU got bullied by a conference that plays with more pride and passion on the big stage. We have to do better.

For the record, I picked JSU to go 9-3 this year. I picked losses to FAMU, (yes because they are a former MEAC Top Heavy Team), ULM and the Celebration Bowl to Norfolk State. (I really thought Odums walked into enough talent with the departures of FAMU, BCU and NCAT.) My picks were influenced by the post you posted above, but they were also because of the MEAC being more physical than the SWAC. I hate it, but it’s the damn truth.

Next year, I think JSU will truly be dominant based on what their recruiting class will bring to the table along with the coaches being able to put more pieces to the puzzle together.

I am not dismissing those wins, but there is a major difference between Valley beating NCCU in the regular season and SCSU beating JSU in the Celebration Bowl for the National Championship. It’s not a narrative. The two stages are different.
Also, what are you talking about a 3-1 record going into the Celebration Bowl? What about all of the games between the two conferences in the past two decades? 662, I respect you bro, but you do know that “our” record isn’t pretty vs the MEAC in recent decades. We have to step up and take advantage of the new era of the MEAC because we have been failing.

We let the swac down this past weekend. Had coach prime going out sad waving the white flag admitting an butt whooping on national TV. We were out coached and sc state beat the cockiness right off us… but knowing coach prime, he will come back stronger and better. That’s just how he is.

I feel the game turned with the fumble, its seems that SCSU did not believe they could win until that turnover near the end of the 2nd quarter.

I hear ya. The turnovers is what did it. I was telling my JSU peeps who I was at the game with that they couldn’t play the “Hero’s of the second half” card because sooner or later, SCSU would start to believe that they could win the game and strange things would start happening. That’s just the way it is.

SCSU came to play, but the took the field in the 1st quarter looking at JSU like, “are you guys really what they say you are?”

No one wants to say this so I will; "I Believe" JSU slogan may have taken SC State a little light based on their 5-6 record, thinking it would be a rather easy contest. SC State had a game plan to run the ball to eat up the clock to keep JSU offense off the field, only passing when necessary. It was the necessary passing that JSU didn't appear to plan for and the difference in the game. As to the other thread comments, I agree the SWAC must do better in regular and post-season games against out of conference opponents, and it will start with The Hornets "stinging" the Bison's of Howard in the 2022 SWAC/MEAC Challenge game in the ATL; I said it. !!
