SWAC vs The MEAC in Celebration Bowls & Challenge Games! It’s time for a change!

No one wants to say this so I will; "I Believe" JSU slogan may have taken SC State a little light based on their 5-6 record, thinking it would be a rather easy contest. SC State had a game plan to run the ball to eat up the clock to keep JSU offense off the field, only passing when necessary. It was the necessary passing that JSU didn't appear to plan for and the difference in the game. As to the other thread comments, I agree the SWAC must do better in regular and post-season games against out of conference opponents, and it will start with The Hornets "stinging" the Bison's of Howard in the 2022 SWAC/MEAC Challenge game in the ATL; I said it. !!

Man. I sure hope Bama State takes care of business. All we need is the Bison winning a Challenge Game in front of Jay Walker. 🤦🏾‍♂️

We're trending in the right direction, base. There's a LOT of league parity where schemes will outweigh personnel, easily. Too many prior blueprints coupled w/ hard-headed coaching staffs who will not adjust will do us all in unless there is change.

I shouldn't say this here but I recall speaking to one def coord pre-game and he LITERALLY predicted what would be the VERY first play from offense of another HC. As I watched from the sideline, and just as predicted, dumbo across the field did it. smh Easy pick-6. "TD... PV!" smh

I know, but still. This wasn’t a 11-0 NCAT Monster in there, this was a 6-5 MEAC who already fell to a SWAC opponent in the the regular season, and a team from a conference and program that was on life support! No matter what, JSU got bullied by a conference that plays with more pride and passion on the big stage. We have to do better.

For the record, I picked JSU to go 9-3 this year. I picked losses to FAMU, (yes because they are a former MEAC Top Heavy Team), ULM and the Celebration Bowl to Norfolk State. (I really thought Odums walked into enough talent with the departures of FAMU, BCU and NCAT.) My picks were influenced by the post you posted above, but they were also because of the MEAC being more physical than the SWAC. I hate it, but it’s the damn truth.

Next year, I think JSU will truly be dominant based on what their recruiting class will bring to the table along with the coaches being able to put more pieces to the puzzle together.
From what I understand, SCSU's record is a bit misleading because they were without key players for some losses due to COVID protocols. I know technically you're only as good as your weakest player but it's worth saying they didn't always field their absolute best.

Honestly, the two teams in the SWAC that were the most physical with JSU almost beat them if it was not for some great personnel plays by JSU. FAMU and Southern should have beaten them. ULM did as well.

Did JSU turn the ball over 3 times in y'all's red zone and did y'all turn that into 21 pts? Oh...ok.

SWAC 6
MEAC 3

Really wish we were still in that same era. SWAC Teams use to go into that Heritage Bowl with more fire and pride in their conference. Things have changed drastically between the two. It’s the MEAC who comes to knock of heads. We have to stop looking forward to a party, and look forward to a fight. Our overall record since 1998 has been embarrassing vs the MEAC in football period. Yes, we have a few wins here am there when the spotlight isn’t on, but all (excluding SU), have bad losses to the MEAC Teams when ESPN and ABC is showcasing what we are about.

It is brutha, but still, they were 6-5 taking on 11-1 Prime Time/3-5 Star loaded Jackson State! I know that JSU has haters, (I know you and I aren’t on that list), but at the end of the day, Jackson State is holding the HBCU microphone right now and in front of the main camera. I am a Grambling man and totally use to the limelight, but it’s Jackson State time to shine. No matter what, they were supposed to enter that game with the same fire they had to shut up AAMU, and the same desire to close the mouths of Southern. They didn’t, and they came to Atlanta looking for a lap dance instead of a fight! SCSU came to the game to let all of know that the MEAC is still here, and that they were a Proud Conference Champion looking for a BC National Title just like all of the other MEAC Representatives have done in the Celebration Bowl and even the Challenge Game. They did it once again.

The MEAC also did NOT send their #1 to the heritage bowl im pretty sure.

That one will be interesting - Even though the record doesn't show it Howard improved a lot from that Ron Prince year and still improving will be a decent foe. Their defense held SCSU to 13 offensive points..

Don’t overlook the fact that those losses were when we matched up against two veteran and very good coaches in Rod Broadway and Buddy Pough. Both guys emphasize run game and hard nose defense.

I can't agree that South Carolina State was more physical than JSU. I think scheme and adjustments were the key. Being out of position is a disguise for being less physical. When it comes to AAMU and South Carolina State, a win is a win. Would you rather have a pretty loss or an ugly win? Give me the ugly win any day.

The Heritage Bowl lol , ya'll taking it back to the 99- 00

Yup. Hampton beat SU 24-3. I think that was the only Heritage Bowl that SU ever lost. In fact, they pretty much carried the W column for the SWAC just like they do the current MEAC-SWAC Challenge wins for the SWAC. We all know that those wins were against weaker MEAC competition, but SU did do what they were scheduled to do. The MEAC is just more physical than the SWAC. Hard nose football. When it comes to Champion vs Champions or 2nd vs 2nd, the MEAC continues win. I am picking Howard to win the Challenge Game.

Southern lost to Howard in 96. The Meac sent their conference champion Famu (1995) to the Heritage Bowl to lose to Southern for the second time in the same season and for the second time in the old Georgia Dome. The Swac can say the same thing about the Meac wins in the challenge which is a higher ranked Meac school vs a lower ranked Swac school. Historically the Swac has been more physical than the Meac. However dating back to 1999 the Meac has shown supremacy over the Swac. One reason is due to non conference scheduling and the other is simply coaching. Hopefully the Swac changes that soon.

BAMA State gonna lose. However even has Lee Hull coaching. They dont stand a chance BUT JSU got the CB in December.

But even back then, when you have a team that has 4 weeks to get ready for you and get healthy, they have the advantage. Southern beat them pretty good during the regular season when prep time was even. Hampton was preparing and resting when SU had VERY emotional and PHYSICAL games vs Grambling and JSU.

I heard that too. I dont follow them like that so Im not sure BUT I heard that the CB was the first time ALL season that they were 100%. Also, had they not played two FBS teams, they could have been a 9-3 team after the CB.

I hope you are wrong.
most of the defensive staff is now at morgan state so...
