SWAC Spring Football Coaches Press Conference - Week 4

Try that experiment where coach Prime announces beforehand that he won't make anymore zoom calls, mysteriously becomes unavailable for a few conference zooms, and lets see how that plays out w/ the media.

I would think any decent HBCU media coverage would want to cover the entire conference - all members, right? Or are they only interested in a onesie or twosie here or there?
That would not fly. All coaches are REQUIRED by the conference to be on the call unless there is something that prevents them from being on the call.

I liked the candid nature of the article. However, Primetime is consistent. He has been ostentatious and flamboyant since day one of his athletic career, and he is taking the same persona to the coaching ranks.

I like what he has done at J-State thus far. A program with its history should be confident. From the new unis to the emphasis of branding “Thee I love and I believe” - J-State is differentiating itself like a pillar of BCF should.

On a side note, I like things decent and in order. It seems Prime does too, so I did not have an issue with Deion telling the reporter to dress more appropriately for the occasion. He obviously has a personal relationship with him, which led to the comments. It was not bad advice.

Don’t see anything wrong with his comments on that phone call. The being late could be a thing, but you solve that by starting the call on time regardless if everyone is there or not and going in the proper order. If your being late costs you your time to speak then so be it, be on time next week.
Overall I think the man has been a good thing and I’ve never been a fan of his.

Yes sir. I'm aware that the conference mandates that HCs be available and evident on the weekly call, unless an emergency-type situation is evident.

Just thought I would throw it out for fodder as a "how would that look/how would they react" scenario.

Well, I think it's safe to say that it would create a shit storm. 🤣

Deion consistently being featured last on the Zoom call (not a big thing to me) could be related to him recording the 21st and Prime podcast. I think he normally does those on Mondays. Then that would be understandable if the SWAC and JSU worked something out where he could do his thing and still be part of the call. As long as he's there -- late or not -- is cool.

21st and Prime is recorded on Sundays. Him being late has to do with practices and meetings, which he is in majority of the day.

That same reporter--if he cultivates that relationship over time, will have a chance at a beat writer position in the NFL soon! Relationships matter!

The issue with that is Deion saying that to the kid publicly on the Zoom. If he wants to do that in private or pull him to the side cool (though it isn't his place to police that). But to say "if you want me to take you seriously" before he was able to get a question out in front of the press is a bit much, to say the least.

At this point is this even necessary?
That is an excellent question, and his article is an excellent article. But I am inclined to agree with you here. I think his article may be a bit premature. While much, if not all, of what he said is accurate, I think we need to, in all fairness, give Deion Sanders the space to more fully acclimate himself to his first stint as a college head coach as well as to HBCU life, his degree from Talledega notwithstanding. Like anyone else that has taken on a new responsibility, whether a high school coach moving up to the college level, or a college coach elevating to the professinal ranks, space is required to allow for complete transition and acclimation. Until that happens, the crtiques could be premature, and run the risk of sounding like a compilation of jealous rants by someone unaccoustomed to having to interact with a high profile personality walking the sidelines of a SWAC football game. Deion has been a SWACSTER barely 5 months; let's see how he is doing this time next year.
