Alcorn State to the West...

Now @Fiyah

You know the next big argument is gonna be the football schedule ... You also know what i'm going to say again ..

8-game conference schedule ... 5 division games and 3 rotating from the other division ... similar to the NFL rotating divisions in their scheduling. No permanent rivals.

I believe the commissioner said back when Bethune came along that each school would have 2 permanent cross division rivals.

He sure did

That's why it really didn't matter if Alcorn, JSU or Valley moved to the West because each school would claim the other MS schools as their permanent rivals. The only reason most picked Alcorn was because of geography (Alcorn is closer to Grambling and Southern than Valley is to UAPB and Grambling (not by much though). Alcorn is 212 miles from UAPB compared to itta Bena being 250+ miles from Southern.

Geography

Damned all this here...

PV fall 2021 schedule: (IC)
MVSU
sTu
UAPB
GSU
AlaSU
JSU
FAMU
BCU

We don't want Alcorn or SU. Please. :(

So what you're saying is since PV monkey stumped Grambling the last two years they're Panther bait now....Got it! LOL

JSU has 3 rivals now in the West (S.U. Alcorn, & Grambling). Not sure how two permanents would work out for them......LOL

Great...I know FAMU/SU are pretty much a lock. And I’m certain BCU/Alcorn are also inevitable. The Jags pretty much have their cross division schedule set.

That leaves Texas or Grambling for the Rattlers (I know we aren’t getting locked in with UAPB).

I am not sure about Alcorn....My thoughts are Alcorn/JSU is an obvious lock. Then one has to consider MVSU is an Alcorn in-state rival as well.

This is true. I figured Alcorn would be one of BCU's opponents because it’s the closest SWAC West school to em.

Geography and travel were considered when aligning the divisions. Taking those factors under consideration the permanent cross division rivals may look something like this.

The Alabama schools with the Texas schools.
The Louisiana schools with the Florida schools.
The Mississippi schools with each other and UAPB.

A visit to Pine Bluff, AR every year is not that bad. Plenty of Black folks there.

Does it matter where Alcorn will be? They are just Alcorn. In a few years, the EAST rivals will be JSU-FAMU and the West will be SU-Gram. Where does Alcorn even matter?
Lol... I doubt that FAMU will be at the bottom of the conference fighting for fourth or fifth place. We will miss Alcorn though because we wanted to beat them before they went out the door.

Yes, the West is indeed going to be a dogfight in football with the addition of Alcorn State. But, don't forget, the West is already a dogfight in men's basketball with the conference's top 4 teams in PV, SU, TSU, & GSU. In women's basketball, the West has the 3 of the top 4 schools, excluding JSU, in SU, TSU, & PV. The West also has the top baseball teams in SU, TSU, and PV. DOGFIGHT? YES!

in women's basketball you are incorrect... top 4 schools were Jackson, Texas So, Southern, AAMU... then Alcorn was 5th..... so you had two of the top 5..... and BCU may be bringing in the best women's team in the league.
