Florida A&M replaces Southern with Jackson State on 2020 football schedule

The Govenor of the state of Mississippi, like most Southern Republican governors, chose to follow Trump's guidance, as opposed to CDC recommendations, when shutting down the state in the first place. So, it would not be ureasonable to assume that he might shun CDC guidelines again and suggest a more lenient standard. It's what Republicans do; put economics ahead of peope's lives!
I live in Dallas and the Rangers are doing similar seating for this baseball season. 6 feet distancing is just not feasible for sporting events. You will probably see some differences in open air vs indoor facilities as to how they handle seating.

Hey Blue, I'm not a hater at all! That's just not me! Your program has been in the hole of late, while their program seems to be flourishing.

When has this ever meant anything in the SWAC? Or do you just not keep up with SWAC history? LOL

I do keep up with SWAC history! I know that JSU has not beaten SU or Alcorn or GSU in the last several years. I know that JSU has not won a SWAC championship in football, men's basketball, or baseball, the big 3 sports, in nearly a decade. LOL

Jackson's mayor said at the press conference today announcing the FAMU game, that he made a deal with Mayor Sharon Broome of BR during last season's SU-JSU contest, that each would wear the spirit shirt of the winning team. So, we know what shirt he had to wear. He asked JSU's coach to ensure that he won't have to wear a FAMU jersey. The truth is, if that unlikly game happens, FAMU would beat JSU like a drum.
yeah bad JSU won against good famu the last two meetings... we not y’all when it comes to famu , carry on.

Then you would also know we have no problem beating FAMU unlike you, nor Alcorn either since you brought them up. Aren’t y’all coming up on yalls decade for a football championship as well? However, none of this has anything to do with us beating FAMU.

That game in BR was a loser from a revenue perspective with the social distancing guidelines and stadium capacity. The number of fans allowed was not sufficient to cover the cost of operation, this is not a mandatory conference game so it didn’t make sense financially. Your AD didn’t tell the entire story why the game was canceled! This is a business... SU’s AD want to ensure he gets the return on investment as FAMU got so the game will be rescheduled.
he did tell the story at the board meeting.

Earle, our projected capacity for this season is between 20 & 30K depending on which recommendation the Governor rules is an acceptable threshold for stadiums statewide. It has been tossed around numbers from 40% and as great as 50% of capacity would be acceptable, but we are operating on somewhere in the middle as an assumption. There is no universal guideline as to how states will proceed. The CDC has suggestions but they are just that suggestions.
According to Banks, the fire marshal said 6-7,000.

The conference don't make ooc game schedules. Ashley saw a opportunity and came in and scooped that game from under them.

The commissioner has the power to shut this mess down which is what needs to happen. They are creating the ultimate shit storm for money.

Again....how much is an athlete’s life worth!

That has nothing to do with nothing. SU was sorry as hell one year and won the SWAC the next.. with ineligible players but they still won. JSU football is on the upswing.

I 100% agree.

So pretty much can have your regular attendance of 25,000-30,000 but just spreading folks out.

You don't have to social distance, families or couples from each other, because they probably live together and can sit together. This will create more open seats for other to sit. JSU officials are going to have their hands full with this social distancing thing. I'm done. news-n-coffee.gif

One other thing to look at, don't expect the opposing schools band to be there at these games especially in their current form. No school will be able to afford to social distance the amount of buses needed to transport that many folks. If you had a band that used 8 buses and now they may need twice that amount to transport them to these venues and if it's not a turn around trip you couldn't double up on the hotel space and afford it too. Then you have to look at where they are coming if they will have to quarantine just because of that.

Maybe so but people just have to use common sense in practicing social distancing, wear their face mask, bandanna or other recommended facial covering, enjoy the wide open fresh air and don't stop or pause to mingle before or after the game. I'm sure no individual will be allow in the stadium without an approved facial covering.

While no community is immmune from the effects of the corona virus, Florida, Texas, and Arizona are projected to be the new hotspots of the pandemic going forward. Those republican-led southern states who followed Trump's lead, are also projected to see a significant rise in their numbers. But as for Florida and Texas, I am not sure I want my alma mater to play contact sports against schools from those states any time soon. We just can't afford to play hit & miss with these kids lives. That virus is still out there and no vaccine has yet been developed.

Don't make me give them credit lol

They did win the SWAC tourney in baseball a few years ago. That was the year they beat #1 ULL in the tourney

I said this weeks that this would happen. No one is gonna be over 50% capacity this season. This will only affects big games and classics (that will be held this year)
