The topic of Power Five schools vs. HBCUs has been a hot one over the last few weeks. A viral meme about sending top talent to HBCUs, followed by a declaration by Mikey Williams about being open to play at an HBCU has kept the conversation going throughout this turbulent time.

These contests have been played out in the virtual world, but a new proposal could make it happen in real-time in a setting not seen before.

A source tells HBCU Gameday that one ACC school plans to travel to an HBCU for a basketball game on its campus this year. The game is expected to be announced later this week.

my money is on an East Coast school who had an open conference date on MLK previously and its within a 30 minute drive. Maybe Howard since they did it last year?

Add FSU/FAMU also since that's the south. If SWAC got involved based on the past schedules the only teams who had open dates on MLK Day has been the Alabama schools. Not sure if that's major for them unless Duke or UNC or maybe Syracuse comes to down which would surely get casual fan to come out.

Don't fall for this token kumbaya (okie doke) moment HBCUs. The PWIs are only doing this to appease the blue chip recruits and current players to make them feel like some change has magically happened. Once again it's Dwight Mann lifting up the coloreds narrative that they love so much. This is not authentic solidarity.

They've got a culture issue on their campuses, and playing "us" isn't going to solve it. F* that, I'll take the 4/5-star recruit instead.

Florida women's basketball team played at grambling and Prairie View A&M last season.

they usually do that when they are recruiting someone from the area... or they have a player from the area....

Auburn girls came to AAMU when they had 3 girls from Huntsville on their team.

North Carolina under Dean Smith used to play near where a player is from. They played Bethune Cookman in Daytona while Vince Carter was there.

I'd like to see them send 1 team to each one of these schools: S.U. Gram, Jsu, TXSU & PVU. Then the next year, the SEC does the same.

MLK didn't march for us to get beat down on national TV back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back games, just so White America can feel good about themselves, and think that's contributing to the cause.

How about ESPN nationally televise AAMU vs Bama St., TxSU vs PVAMU, Howard vs Hampton, NCA&T vs NCCU, CIAA rivalry games, etc? We need to be showcasing our products and atmosphere to the general public and potential student athletes. Especially the blue chippers who are now considering HBCUs again. If we get stomped out by Duke or UNC how does that change the narrative between HBCUs and 4/5-star athletes?

This is more of a publicity stunt and reconnaissance mission for PWIs. They get to come in and see what our games are like and copy it so their players can feel more at home. They already stole SU's version of "Neck". What's next to be culturally appropriated and used against us in recruiting?

He also didn't play favorites with the usual SWAC schools on TV like suggested

During MLK weekend this year, it would be a no brainer to have two former NBA champions face off on national TV although with MLK Weekend falling on 1/18/21, scheduling wouldn't allowing it since we usually open with either UAPB, AAMU or ASU

Why can't Morehouse play early on MLK Day? (11 AM game) then a CIAA game and then a couple of MEAC and SWAC games

Oh but noooooo. Don't embroil PV in that dumb shat. Y'all can have it, seeing how most feel about sec descendants lol.

What's wrong with getting a high caliber team in our arena for a change? BTW what's up with that jackass reply?

That's a narrow view. We virtually never get a high caliber team in our arenas. I say give our athletes a chance to host at least one game of this caliber. I am sure MLK didn't march for us to go on the road to get all of those beat downs for a check either.

Don't really like there idea on that day! That's our Special Day of Remembrance! That our time to Teach, Think and Reflect! We don't need the distraction on that day. Have the money game at another time. Hold the cream in my coffee on that day.

Perhaps I am losing my mind today. IMHO, MLK is an American Holiday for all to remember. A day that all should be taught, think, and reflect. In the context you're saying "hold the cream in my coffee," it really sounds similar to something a bigot would say. Not sure these would be considered "money games" but perhaps you know something that I don't. Would they be traveling to our arenas with a large contingent? Probably not but stranger things have happened.

Why can't those games also be included on the ESPN family of channels as well as a SWAC/ACC series of games?
It could work. I'm not saying it won't. That does help the brand, IF we compete and the times we've had them in our building we have.
