J-State leads all of FCS; SWAC & MEAC leads FCS conferences

Hats off to Jackson State University for leading all FCS schools in football attendance in 2019 despite a less than mediocre team. I know many people say Jaguar Nation are the best FCS fans but I personally believe JSU fans have surpassed them in passion and loyalty to their school. If SU was as bad as JSU, trust Jaguar Nation would be practically non-existant except for maybe homecoming and Bayou Classic.

Also hats off to everyone who supported a SWAC (1st) and/or MEAC (2nd) school in 2019 being that they were the top 2 finishers among FCS conferences.

Your negtive comments about the Jaguar Nation were uncalled for. If you want to congratulate JSU, then do so! But leave the Jaguar Nation alone! If you must find a school to pick on, I would suggest TSU! They seem like a good candidate, being that they are located in a metro area with more than 7 million, but can't attract an average of 10,000 for football games. But then again, why would 10,000 want to come and watch a football team that went 0 & 11 for the season. Yeah, TSU would have been a much better school to pick on! By the way, congratulations to JSU!

Look, no one is going to beat out Jackson State any time soon! In a city of 170,000 residents (84% Black), JSU is literally the only game in town. Their mayor, with the African-sounding name, said as much in a recent interview. Aside from serving as the capital of the state, there is nothing significant happening in Jackson other than Jackson State football. Add to that the fact that JSU admits to its games all school-aged kids for free in that 60,000-seat stadium, and you have a recipe for an attendance-leading football program on a national scale. I am not complaining, though! I think it is genius of them to admit school-aged kids for free. With a big stadium that largely sits half empty, why not allow these free attendees? Without free admission, these kids would be sitting at home at game time, and the stadium seats they occupy would be sitting there empty. Its a win-win situation for all concerned. The kids get in for free and Jackson State sees its numbers rise both in attendance and in concession food sales. Now next year JSU's numbers will go down! Gone from its upcoming schedule are Southern, Grambling and Alcorn State, three of their most well-attended games, and because they do enjoy a nice road following, SU, GSU, and AlSU should see their numbes rise.

Call me a hater.. But I dont believe JSU avg 30,000 every home game...
Jag Nation could do better as for as home attendance.. BUT... BC #1, FAMU game one of the biggest attendant game they had in awhile at Bragg. McNesse game set a record. We are doing just fine..

TSU the biggest school in the SWAC ,yet your attendance is what again?? I bet the next line...WAIT FOR IT!!! WE ARE A commuter School.

With a home following of nearly 34,000 fans and a nice road following as well, the SWAC needs JSU to field competitive teams. The more competitive they are, the more fans will show up at their home games and the more fans will follow them on the road to other SWAC venues. So we need JSU to win all of its games, except SU, of course, and bring all those thosands of fans on the road with them. I am a proponent of SU. as a way to increase attendance, extending free admission to clustsers of schools groups, one cluster at a time, to games that traditionally are not well attended. I would prefef to see those seats occupied for free by school-aged kids than to sit there empty for free. Since those seats are not going to generate any income anyways, fill them with kids for free and enjoy the increase in concession sales you will experience.

You're just super sensitive which isn't my problem. I stated the obvious. Jaguar Nation can only sell out 1 home game per season, 2 when JSU bring their fans to The Bluff for the Boombox Classic. I remember back in the day, every SU home game was sold out. And yes I know prices increased but it did at LSU as well and they still manage to sell out a much bigger stadium considering ain't much going on in BR either .. New Orleans yes ... BR area no. And BR is a bigger city than Jackson and damn near all of BR is behind SU. TSU ain't that lucky especially since we have 4 other DI athletic programs in the city (I'm counting PV despite being right outside Houston).

If JSU football is just decent this year (not even good but decent), I expect them to beat SU and everyone else in the SWAC/MEAC in attendance. JSU does a great job of creating an awesome game experience ... from the band and community involvement to the massive tailgating to the themed promotion of the games ... it's well done

And I've always said TSU football culture can be so much better but for one Houston is a major city with a vibrant nightlife. Even the University of Houston football team has problems with attendance despite a brand new stadium and being ranked in the top 25 in recent years ... college football isn't the highest caliber of entertainment available in Houston. By the way, I didn't go to TSU for the football culture, I went because it was free, it was in a major cool city, and I wanted the HBCU experience. Perhaps one day TSU football culture will be popping, we never won long enough like JSU and SU for people to want to come to games consistently. I love my TSU regardless if fans show up to games or not ... my love for TSU is deeper than athletics.

By the way, please note TSU has beat JSU and SU in basketball attendance for like forever. Our fans show out more than JSU and SU for stuff we're really good in. TSU Saturday basketball games are usually very fun.

I disagree. JSU led in attendance in 2018 with a Home Schedule of Alabama A&M, Valley, North Alabama, and Prairie View. it may not be 33K but I think we will do great. If we are better than last year then I expect the 30K to be the Norm.

There is somehing often overlooked when we consider SWAC football attendnce numbers. For schools like Southern and Grambling and Alabama State and Alabama A&M, their biggest games (permanent classic games) are not counted in the average attendance numbers. According to NCAA 2019 attendance, SU averaged 17,000 fans. That, considering that we played only 4 home games in 2019, with two of those being against the likes of Edward Waters and Virginia-Lynchburg. The Bayou Classic does not ever figure in for SU or GSU, nor does the Magic City Classic for ASU and AAMU. For instance, if the 67,000 who attendd the BC last year were counted for SU, our average attendance would have been 27,000, second only to JSU, and if we were to have admitted school-aged kids for free, our numbers would have gone through the roof. Numbers for GSU would have also been much higher if the BC were couted in their numbers as well. Now the Capitol City Classic there in Jackson, counts for JSU as does the classic game played each year between TSU and PV.

j st didn't surpass nothing. j st don't even travel like we do. Like you said many know we're the best fanbase in FCS, j st is just a home room fanbase, thats the only classroom they go to.

J-State packed out the Georgia State stadium in Atlanta ... they were the reason the 2019 MEAC/SWAC game sold out. SU couldn't even sell out the MEAC/SWAC game at home in 2017. You think Bethune Cookman fans travel outside South Florida? B/c they don't, it was 90% JSU

I give credit where credit is due. JSU deserves it plus more ... they show out for JSU football regardless how good they are.

Props to JSU.....That is for tsugraytiger the self-proclaimed SWAC football hater knows where SWAC football prowess lies. Why else would he bring up The Mighty Football Jags and the incomparable Jaguar Nation? Don't hate on the Jags because your attendance is on section 8. Get some vision to improve sTu lackluster numbers. Without vision, the people perish! LOL

JSU's Classic game vs Tennessee State doesn't count either towards attendance. The Capitol City Classic is not an official Classic game like the ones you mentioned. Its a Home and Home.

Somebody from sTu starting a thread about attendance first of all, then riding 1 school's gas pump and looking down on another formidable fanbase is a crackhead move......LOL

Two things I never question is 1) Jsu football attendance because most of the time it's on point regardless of what year it is 2) sTu attendance because it is always shameful, an embarrassment, and full of an orange stadium like excuses.....LOL

Must you be so cruel LOL!!! txSU football is the reason that DCG became an LSU fan.

It's a good thing that attendance numbers don't have anything to do with the ability to have sneakers. Otherwise, tsugraytiger would be trying to jack the Jaguar Nation for their Nikes.......LOL

Dude and that aint even the largest crowd in meac swac challenge history of crowds, go look up who had the largest. Also, until j st can brake records at opposing other stadiums aside from there's, don't ever say they have surpassed us because they haven't. Yea, do me a favor, go look up all 9 Swac schools and outside of Swac schools attendance records, guess what the common denominator was? You guess the played Southern.

So, are you saying that except for a few BCU fans, all others were JSU? Did any residents from the Atl, not affiliated with either school, attend? First of all, only 23,000 fans showed up for the game anyway! You talk about atmosphere, who creates atmosphere better than SU?
