Podcast: Alcorn’s weak 2020 football schedule & the SWAC’s D2 scheduling strategy

BINGO!!!!!!!

I thought the 7-game schedule was perfect in that it literally gave teams a lot of flexibility to schedule a plethora of teams. The 8-game scheduling formate can work, but schools have to discipline themselves to schedule teams that - over time - will improve the overall product of what is on the field.
they didn't want the 7 games because they got exposed as bad teams. no of us should be scheduling all fbs & DII OOC games. that is ridiculous. that is the literal definition of running from competition. FBS games come w/ no expectation of winning & DII games are safe unless your program is in complete disarray.

You have to be SMART with the FBS teams you schedule. That's why A&T won 3 straight games against FBS squads and BCU two before them.

Right now if I am a SWAC AD I would have Akron on speed dial because they are winless this year and vulnerable going into next year. UMass is not a solid FBS school. Even UAB who barely beat ASU is beatable. We shouldn't be scheduling any top 40-50 programs (that includes Boise State, TCU, UCF, Cincinnati, Army, etc.)

No lies told ... raising costs in tickets to see shittier football teams on the field is the direction SWAC football is headed in ... not a good combination. Excited basketball season here ... tickets are still quite affordable and the top SWAC teams are actually decent DI competitors (unlike football)

I'm still not impressed with Alcorn and I'm sure the MEAC will continue beating us in Atlanta until something drastic happens at a SWAC school.

You didn’t call out Grambling or SU ! GSU was SWAC Champs with a similar schedule but you wanna call out Alcorn. You are pathetic right along with your whack azz reporting.

Grambling State first two games were against University Louisiana Monroe and Louisiana Tech. I believe neither of them are Division 2.

I am in agreement with you on the MEAC beating the team regardless who the SWAC sends. We need to get serious about our Football programs!

Ken I don’t like the schedule either and some of your comments are on point; took exception to the hatred in your tone verbal and written.

there is also no pressure or expectation on the coaches to win. you can't judge the job the coaching staff is doing based on those games.

I may be in the minority but I have no problem with Alcorn's schedule. Until our conference puts a better product on the field I see no reason to keep getting your brains beaten out and players demoralized for a check. Even FCS programs are kicking us to sleep these days. Alcorn is getting it right in my opinion...stay healthy and confident for conference and the SCG and the Celebration Bowl.

Exactly! I'm Through with "Conference Profile Elevation".

🗣️🗣️🗣️WIN GAMES!!! WIN YOUR DIVISION AND COMPETE FOR CONFERENCE TITLES.

Until We can be better at Coaching and player Development We All need to schedule accordingly. Tired of being embarrassed against Southland teams and alike.

Go Alcorn schedule!

I Love GSU schedule too!

No Bullshit fbs games that are clearly non winnable. We can atleast look decent against UTSA and play well enough to beat south Alab or whichever directional bama we playing .
I'm more concerned with winning Our conference and the CB than trying to have a Hard schedule. It does nothing but get kids hurt and lower team morale. I want Our Swac kids healthy to compete against each other.

I'm to the point where I don't blame Fobbs or any other coach for pulling kids in a FBS beatdown.

We need to Win the Conference not the Respect Award. Fugg that! Lol..

I’m disappointed in the scheduling of our supposed teams , JSU has been guilty of this as well, but we clearly are in different times than others in Conference. I think the SUs , GSUs , and Alcorns of the worlds should be looking to schedule more meac , and the higher Elites of the siac (Miles, Tuskegee, etc) , and maybe an occasional CIAA like Bowie State foes as SU did this past year with picking FAMU back up.. I’m all for keeping black money in our instutions rather than putting ours out there to get beat by 40, cause injuries to our better players, and lower the Conference due to injury or the morale of the team.., however the big picture is folks... SWAC May have better records due to weaker scheduling and maybe a tick down in the product on the field , but the big picture is it looks bad come celebration bowl time when we are put up against hbcus in another conference that are solid from top to bottom. Since the inception of the celebration bowl... the SWAC has won one time and that was Grambling in ‘16, not a good look... its bigger than one school... when I see JSU getting beat by Kentucky state, Texas southern losing to Missouri A&M , Alabama A&M barely beating a smaller Morehouse squad, and both the defending and west division champs Alcorn and Southern losing too McNeese who finish near the bottom of their respective conference because of coaches just saying “whatever” when they’re the better team it’s very concerning.... our conference, our coaches, and our athletic administrations have got to do better. I know we laugh and smack each other j state being the latest victim, but it looks bad on all of us and it’s not a good look for the conference when our elites don’t go play the McNeese , Nichols etc and win. Just is. Til we get it right, MEAC will continue to kill us in Atlanta.

Well got dayum!!!!!! We agree!!!!!

there is absolutely no reason that GSU, SU, and Alcorn should not have their out of conference games with Top 25 FCS programs!!!!! PERIOD!!!!

But their other 2 OOC games was against conference foes. They seemed to not even try to look outside the conference for other FCS schools to play.

GSU, SU, Alcorn would get tore tf up by majority of those schools. Most of those schools would be FBS right now if they met requirements. The SWAC has to get back serious and play ball. We have so much to improve on. Hell NDSU the past 8 seasons record is 97-8 and they are 12-0 right now. We should be beating these schools ass. We are doing something completely wrong.
