Man shot, killed by off duty Dallas police officer who walked into the wrong apartment

I have taken a completely different approach to what Chief Hall (a Gramblinite) is doing. I'm not going into details, but I can assure you that she is NOT trying to cover for that officer who shot that man.

With all due respect, your statement gives the impression that the DPD police chief is/was more concerned with trying to prove there's NO DPD cover up rather than trying to determine what happened to Botham Jean. The DPD police chief may have had good intentions, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions. She didn't have to turn this over to the Texas Rangers in order to prove there's no cover up for the murderer. Instead of doing what's right, she chose to do what's easy, and passed the buck.

Don't get this shit twisted. I want justice for that brother. And it's my opinion that Chief Renee wants justice for that brother too. That's why I believe she wants the Texas Rangers to investigate. So that there is no need to accuse the DPD of a cover-up.

Historically speaking, whenever police-related shootings take place, it's the investigations led by the very departments who employ the accused that end up concluding that the officer was justified in any given shooting and recommend that charges not be filed.

It is MY BELIEF that this black police chief wants NO PARTS of trying to defend this white officer in her department who ended up killing an unarmed black man who was in his own freakin' apartment. That is why I believe she is giving the case to the Texas Rangers so that -- as she has already said -- the DPD remains transparent so that there is no reason to believe that her department is trying to cover shit up.

Because of a "disagreement", the DPD police chief handed all this over to the Texas Rangers WITHOUT an internal investigation. She didn't question the murderer, she didn't test the murderer, nothing. Because the DPD couldn't agree on the charges, even after a judge said the charges described constitute murder charges, she simply handed this over to the Texas Rangers, who IMMEDIATELY released the murderer! If the DPD police chief truly wants to build a better relationship between the police and the community, and if she truly wants justice for Botham Jean and his mother, her decision reflects otherwise. The highest priority should have been to determine the actions leading up to Botham Jean's death and impose criminal charges, if needed, not to disprove "cover up".

They did their job. Gave her the best possible chance of getting off.

And because it was turned over to the Texas Rangers, she had plenty of time to come up with her "story". She should have been immediately taken into custody by the DPD or at the very least been suspended without pay until DPD investigated properly.

And now that the case is back in the hands of the DPD, the chief is talking about investigating the possibility of additional charges (murder) and other evidence.

She STILL has to do her own investigation after playing footsie with the Texas Rangers.

Even considering investigating to see if she can increase the charges tells me that she doesn't think the Rangers did an adequate job. And suggests to me that she knows the Rangers looked for ways to minimize the officer's culpability.

This whole charade is disturbing to watch.

I still want to know why she was not drug tested. If a Metro bus driver is involved in an accident no matter how minor they are drug tested immediately. Why is this not the case for leos?

The "person" says Mr. Jean's (pronounced jahn) door was unlocked insinuating his door was not locked before using her key.....this is DALLAS, TX.....COME ON MAN!

Disturbing but not unexpected.

So.......lemme see if I got this straight.......

This was ORIGINALLY a DPD matter, but because they couldn’t agree on charges against that murderer cop even AFTER a judge stated that he’d ONLY agree to murder charges because that fit the criminal description, the DPD handed it over to the Texas Rangers WITHOUT so much as taking a statement or drug test from that murderer; the TX Rangers release this murderer about 2 hours later, concoct some cockamamie bull crap from that lying murderer, THEN “allow” the case to go back to the DPD, who has to conduct an investigation, which should have been done in the first place? WOW!

she establishes in the affadavit that the door was ajar prior to her arrival. Shes the only one who would have known this. And yet she supposedly tried to use a key on a door she knew was already open? Im not buying her story to the rangers

That’s another thing.......how could the door be ajar if the key fob wouldn’t allow entrance?

How do you NOT know your own doggone apartment UNLESS you on something? You just got off duty, so you shouldn’t be high or drunk. And if that’s the case, this murderer was able to discern her own apartment.

In that affidavit, that lying hag said she entered the interior of “her” apartment and that is was nearly completely dark. She thought a burglar was in “her”apartment, drew her weapon, gave “verbal commands” and proceeded to shoot twice. She went inside “her” apartment, called 911 (requesting the police and EMS), and administered CPR to Botham Jean. She stated because of the darkness of the interior, she THEN turned on the light! HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO DO ALL THAT IN THE DARK????

Finally, when 911 asked her location, that liar stated “she returned to the front door to observe the address and discovered she was at the wrong apartment”. But if you thought that was your apartment, WHY WOULD YOU NEED TO GO TO YOUR OWN FRONT DOOR TO CONFIRM YOUR ADDRESS/LOCATION? That’s information you know off the top of your head, and her being a so-called “trained” officer, she’s trained to remain calm under pressure, so she definitely should have known her own address without having to go look!

This is so fukked up...

So they are going to make it out to be the victim's fault or the bad guy...

Is the officers home being searched as well?

It's all so ridiculous.

I personally don't believe the door was cracked. She will get ...resign from DPD....riots will be held...the black leaders will show up demanding justice. The police chief will resign. In the coming months his picture will be added to those who were killed by cops and she will end up being a Deputy Sheriff in some other location of Texas.

I have absolutely no faith in the judicial system.

My summary....

DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES.

DPD Chief should have never turned it over to the TX Rangers...

When some of us on Facebook said that she passed the buck, we got attacked. Now people see how big of a mistake that it was. It seems like when WE get in top positions (from a manager job to this chief to Obama) we got above and beyond to prove that we aren't playing favorites and doing things by the book while they have burned the book

See my post above.

People on Facebook wanted our heads because we said this. I don't care if she went to Grambling and a Delta. In a position like that, she is a cop in a system that time and time again has shown you that this system is not for us. She dropped the ball and it might cost her in the long run
