Will we ever see an 8-game SWAC schedule?

Listen up maggots! And that's an order!
@Fiyah and I have been two of the biggest proponents of an 8-game conference schedule, with one team from the opposing division rotating off annually.

An 8-game schedule seems to be the happy medium between the current 7-game schedule and the BS that was a 9-game schedule. In most years, an 8-game slate will give schools three nonconference dates to fill (and four those seasons FCS teams are allowed to have a 12-game season).

For example ...
Southern would drop AAMU in 2021, drop Alabama State in 2022, drop Jackson State in 2023, drop Alcorn in 2024 and drop Valley in 2025

AAMU would drop Southern in 2021, Grambling in 2022, Texas Southern in 2023, Prairie View in 2024 and UAPB in 2025

If we're going to keep the SCG, an 8-game schedule would allow for some intrigue in years the East and West champions didn't play in the regular season. The possibility of a fresh matchup, in theory, would help boost attendance for that game.

Also, in theory, an 8-game schedule would give schools at least three home games, taking into account neutral site games.

Sooooo ... what would make it work? Why would it fail?
 



I doubt you'll ever see an 8 game format. Even tho I dont like those money games financially it wouldn't make sense. I could be wrong.

I see it as a happy medium. Three OOC dates to fill. Teams normally schedule up once or twice a year.

Let’s take Southern. One SWAC game we know is neutral site is the Classic. That leaves you with three home SWAC games and four road SWAC games, or vice versa depending on the season.

Idk..... To be honest i have to see this format first to say it will work or not. I'm open minded, I'll give it a try.

southern's athletic department would go bankrupt if it took JSU off it's schedule. You know they ain't gone do that.

That's the job. If the AD can't do it, along with fundraising, graduating student=athletes, sell season tickets hire the right coaches & build a collective winning athletic department...they should find a different line of work.
As a matter of fact, I believe the commish and council of presidents should allow conference teams to play as ooc games but they both must pay a 200k fine (400k total) to be dispersed to the conference office & other teams (that should remove all financial incentive to play). also no more than 3 dII or fbs games in a 3 year period. I'm tired of our teams running from the rest of fcs.
build your own fanbase, play teams on our level, win.
 
@dezjaguar Here's how an 8-game schedule would work ... IMO

Ideally, you want teams to have four true home and four away SWAC games. Teams that have neutral site rivalry games (Bayou Classic, Magic City, State Fair) throws it somewhat out of whack, especially for Grambling since the G-Men play in two of those three traditional neutral site games.

Ideally, you want the a West school to play home-and-home against East schools, playing four times in five years and eight times in 10.

Let's say the SWAC says the first year of it, the teams that finished in the same spot the previous year would be the first to drop, then it descends from there ...

Southern (2nd West) would drop Alabama State (2nd East) in the first year...

Southern would play its divisional foes (Grambling, PV, TSU, UAPB) and the East except Bama State (AAMU, JSU, Alcorn and MVSU)

So year one SWAC schedule:
AAMU: home
JSU: away
Alcorn: home
MVSU: away
PV: home
TSU: away
UAPB: home
Grambling: BC/neutral site

year two:
JSU: home
Alcorn: away
MVSU: home
Bama State: away
PV: away
TSU: home
UAPB: away
Grambling: BC/neutral site

year three:
Alcorn: home
MVSU: away
Bama State: home
AAMU: away

8 game schedule really is the best way to go.

But black folks don't believe in compromises or happy mediums, so I fully expect more "negrotics" leading to a 7 or 9 game schedule.

Grambling would have three true home and away games, along with the State Fair and Bayou Classic Games. For the sake of argument, let's suppose Alcorn gets dropped year one, followed by the team that finished last that year and moving up ... (so well go Alcorn, Valley, Jackson, AAMU, Bama State)

I know. It sounds too much like right ... the 8-game schedule is probably the best of both worlds with respect to conference scheduling and filling it out with nonconference opponents. Plus we'll get a fourth date in a 12-game season

Because it's not a fair and balance scheduling of teams from the opposite division. There are no true opposite division rivalry's that must be played for every team in the conference. This 7 game format they got now is a farce.

That 12 game season is next year and schools will have to find 5 ooc games to play. You see that some can't do it now and are playing conference schools as ooc games, just wait till next year and you'll see more doing it. They'll be playing 8 games anyway, might as well make it right and change the conference format to it now and get it over with.

I forgot next season was a 12-game season. We didn’t even get into the prospects of a balanced conference schedule when we talked about it in the past.

It makes too much sense.

It doesn't have to be more than yours just as long as we know how to use what we have in a responsible way.

This schedule is off, it would give Grambling only 2 home games on odd number years

What did I miss? I was basing it off what the schedule traditionally looked like. Bayou and State Fair are neutral site games. That’s two out of eight. That means that would be six games left (three home/three away).

Grambling’s SWAC schedule would be balanced.

Southern, Prairie View, AAMU and Bama State would fluctuate because they’ve traditionally have one neutral site game.
 
I've been said the SWAC needs to adopt this format.

Most, if not all your other conferences play 8 conference games.

I'm not sure what other conference still plays everybody in the regular season, besides the SWAC.

Backward ass ppl man smh. Leadership in this conference is just trash and sad

3 or 4 non-conference games.

SEC even has a format, where every SEC teams only plays 4 road games in each season.

That algorithm works for their conference. Our SWAC officials are to dayum lazy to even put something together or think of a way where every team in the conference would have only 4 road games. Lazy asses don't want to do nothing to improve this conference. My dayum.
Just say play everybody like it's 1998 or some sht, Out-dated ass negros smh. Sad

We as ppl do not try and emulate nothing that's successful. The hell playing everybody in 2018 will do for this conference. smh.
