Will we ever see an 8-game SWAC schedule?

I think the SEC team format

West teams in this example, plays all their division teams (6) games and they play (1) East team "every" year Home and Away and (1) East team rotates on the schedule over 2 years.

Using LSU as an example.

Their East team that they play every year is UF, They rotate with the other East teams, I think UGA is on the schedule for them this year, they haven't played them since 2008 in Tiger stadium and then 2013 was in UGA, so it's every 5 years or so looks like they rotate and play one another.

Dude, the SEC got 12 teams. I bet if they only had 10, they would play all 9 of their opponents.

The ACC plays 8 conference games and they have 14 members.

Right but technically we play 9 since Notre Dame is unofficially officially on the schedule. and some of the ACC teams are thinking about scheduling conference opponents in those OOC slots. The SWAC only has 10 teams so Im not sure why we having this discussion. 7 or 9 are the ONLY numbers that make sense.

and personally, as far as the ACC goes, I dont see the point in playing just 8 games due to Notre Dame. We should play 9. I would replace that Alcorn game in a second with an ACC opponent.

How long have they been having 12 teams??

Go back and do your googles and pull a conference standings where the SEC teams played 9 games?

You do know Mizzo, and A&M wasn't always in the SEC bud.

The SWAC has 10 teams.

There are conferences around this country that have either the same amount of teams or less and they still play 8 games.

Too much xplaining going on in here for a 7 game scheduling format to be done.

That's when you have to use your OOC games and schedule 2 of those as home games. But the conference games can be scheduled to have you play 3 home conference games with 2 east and 1 west on campus games each year. You would have 2 east road games, 1 west road game, 2 east home games, 1 west home games and 2 neutral site games (the neutral site games would be shown as 1 home & 1 away to balance it out)

What part of fair and balance don't you understand. That's the big problem with this 7 game schedule now.

It's not about babying the AD's, it's about making a fair and balance schedule. Right now it's no where close to that..

Ok, You say it's not about baby'n them.

Ok so how long do we let this go on, playing everybody like we in 1998?? This has been going on for quite some time and it's still about making it fair and balance?

Conferences don't go by this format any more, playing every team in the conference. That's not making any real sense by doing that

What's fair and balance mean with having a 7 conference schedule setup?? How does "fair and balance" play a role in scheduling?

You have 7 conference games and you add 3 or 4 or even 5. How is this unfair and not balanced for other ADs to not be able to sit down and do this??

Other conferences does it.

But the SWAC needs to be fair and have balance and playing every team equates to fair and balance?

The SEC has 4 road games, They are guaranteed at least 7 or 8 home games, most 8 because they play a total of 12 games.

Those 7 to 8 games, make money.

Pull up any SEC team's schedule and you'll see that they have 4 road games, maybe 5 if they are playing in a 1st week classic on the road.

We are too lazy to even try and implement this algorithm into our conference. Lazy ass ppl. Not knowing that this brings in more money for your university in most cases.

We'll rather do what we've been doing since 1934 and sh1t, burnt out, out-dated ass administration. We some lazy ass thinkers man, especially those in the SWAC, from the top to his cabinet.

Uhm Pot/Kettle lol. You are the same way when JSU is mentioned whether you want to admit or not
I've learned, yall will embarrass yourselves. Him being older and have been on this site for decades one would think he knew better.

It truly amazes me how "self reported/proclaimed" educated people say the silliest shit on this site and get responses from other "self reported/proclaimed" educated people! Is this the twilight zone?....

I beg of y'all to stop derailing threads with y'alls bullshit. Please! Just for once.

Now back to the topic ...

As @Fiyah and others would attest to, we've seen in the past that ADs in the conference have had trouble filling in four OOC dates ... relying on playing SWAC schools in games that don't count and also weakening our standing in FCS as a whole. And some of y'all expect your AD to fill in FIVE OOC dates for next season, a 12-game season? Sheeeeeeeeiiiit!

As long as the SCG pits the West and East division champion, an 8-game schedule will provide balance for schools without a neutral-site rivalry game in conference play (Bayou Classic, State Fair, Magic City).

Also, the balanced 8-game schedule means you can set the schedule so that an Alabama team doesn't go to Texas twice, or vice versa.

Eventually, the Southland and Ohio Valley will get their wish and FCS will move to a 12-game schedule. I would rather have the 8-game schedule in place before the FCS adopts the 12-game schedule than after it comes.

I've been said the SWAC needs to adopt this format.

Most, if not all your other conferences play 8 conference games.

I'm not sure what other conference still plays everybody in the regular season, besides the SWAC.

Backward ass ppl man smh. Leadership in this conference is just trash and sad

8 would be a happy medium. I mean if we went to 8 in 2019, we would still have 4 OOC games due to 2019 being the odd year for FCS schools to have 12 games. That would give schools an extra year to get their 2020 schedules ready (although if I am not mistaken, schools like ASU and AAAMU are already on their 2020 schedules)

As far as leadership, how many of our schools have a president and AD tandem in place longer than 3-5 years? That's part of the problem right there along with academic minded presidents who don't understand the importance of athletics (or concerned about keeping their doors open)

I think the four schools can live without two games in 10 years.

I'm glad you are from SU and suggested this because whenever other schools from outside of this foursome suggest this, we get told to mind our own business.

If your school can't go 1 year without playing each other, then you are not as big time as you think you are. If you want to play each other as OOC opponents cool but don't act huff when the other schools on here talk about you. That's something else that the schools in this conference have to get over. You have to do what's best for the conference NOT just your individual schools. That's why the Big 12 is probably one Oklahoma defection away from being done (because OSU would follow them) and becoming the Lone Star Conference lol

Allow me to take a swipe at this.

7-game schedule means you're alternating between four conference home dates and three home dates, depending on the year. Ideally, you would want to have five total home dates on your 11-game schedule.

An 8-game schedule, for most members of the conference, will provide four true home games to generate revenue at home. Now if some want to leave that date and move to a neutral site for more money, God help them secure the bag.

The three nonconference dates could be an FBS, a regional FCS home-and-home or a D-2/NAIA homecoming opponent. A lot more flexibility than the old 9-game round robin.

You keep bringing up the 14-team SEC. SEC went to 12 teams in 1991 when Arkansas left the old Southwest Conference and South Carolina stopped being independent. Texas A&M and Mizzou gave the league 14 teams. The SEC had an 8-game schedule since they created their championship game. However, the league kept it at eight games when the NCAA allowed 12-game schedules to allow those teams to add more revenue-generating home dates to their schedule.

Saban has politicked several years at LSU and Alabama about the SEC schedule. Spurrier has as well when he was at Florida. Coaches always bitch and moan in every conference. Fans bitch and moan in every conference.

SIDE NOTE: You're right about how tenuous the Big 12's position is right now. The Longhorn network thing almost killed that league.

Me being an SU person doesn't blind me to the health of the conference. I think people are overcomplicating the 8-game schedule, along with annual rotation. It's not like Valley would be without Southern or Grambling on its schedule every year. Ideally, a 10-year cycle means Valley would play everyone in the West eight times each (four home/four away) in 10 years, with a school dropping off once every five years.

I look at it like simple math: would you rather fill four OOC slots in a 12-game season or five? Would you rather fill three OOC slots in an 11-game season or four?

Personally, I would give the schools the 8-game schedule in 2021, since that's four years from now and it gives the schools enough breathing room to work around and line up their OOC dates with the conference.

But you wanna know something I've noticed: I've been given more about why this would fail than why would this succeed ...

At this point, it wouldn't make any difference who dropped from the West maybe outside of UAPB since 2 out of our 3 wins over the past 2 years have been over them so I think Valley fans would show up for that game. If we went to 8 games with 1 permanent opponent from the West we know it's PB

The 8-game schedule I envisioned will only work when there's NO permanent opponent from the opposing division. Doing the permanent opponent option will muck up with works because naturally Southern/Grambling will chose JSU/Alcorn, leaving the Texas and Alabama schools out in that water.

That's the part of the equitable scheduling I look for.

U right! If you want to talk personally to an individual there's an inbox slat for anybody. Diverting from topics is annoying. If you can't stick to the topic don't comment at all!
Carry on

Yeah I am not in favor of a permanent opponent from the opposite division for this very reason

Even though southern or Grambling might want to schedule JSU and Alcorn over the other East schools, that's not fair when it comes to fair competition. Usually Grambling and southern are the two stronger teams from the West.

Who does that leave for Bama State and AAMU to play? Texas Southern, PV or PB.
That's "usually" an easier route to the Eastern title.
The question is, which is more important? An Eastern title or money for already strapped budgets.

Dude they played 8 games when they had TWELVE teams! They got 14 now.

Ya'll not gonna win this argument because it wont make sense. Find a 10 team league going thru the trouble of rotating ONE team. Just play all 9. Otherwise, 7 is the only number that makes any common sense.

Some of ya'll slow as hell talking to about 8 games... smh

Eventually, the Southland and Ohio Valley will get their wish and FCS will move to a 12-game schedule. I would rather have the 8-game schedule in place before the FCS adopts the 12-game schedule than after it comes.

We wont go to 12 games because the powers-that-be know it will be the end of college football as we know it. It wont happen. Plus, the playoffs are now expanded so going to 12 is not in the best interest of playoff conferences.

IF it goes to 12 games, we should just go back to the 9 game mandate and then we will still have the 3 OOC games you are advocating now. So it makes sense to YOU that we play 8 games with 3 OOC games now but play 8 games with FOUR out of conference games if they go to 12? make it make sense. If 4 OOC games is too much for you now, whats going to change with a 12 game schedule?
