Mike Haywood TXSU Salary

I’m sure someone will correct me if i’m wrong. Texas Southern probationary period ended after 2016.

Q: Football suffered heavy sanctions in scholarships and recruiting visits because of NCAA rules violations under previous coaches. How difficult has it been for the program to recover and compete?

McClelland: Probation negatively impacted football to the point to where, as you wrote, we were near the death penalty. It's been three decades since SMU received the death penalty for football (in 1987), and it still hasn't fully recovered. Recovery is not an overnight process. The first thing we did with football was bringing in (coach) Darrell Asberry (2012-15), and other than winning games, he did a remarkable job. He took the nation's lowest APR rate for football and built it to the point where we have a graduation rate of about 65 percent. Now we have Michael Haywood (as coach), and I am optimistic. The last part of the process is winning games. Everything else in the football program is solid. You can't almost get the death penalty and win a bunch of football games. It is a process.

lol

“They love coach.” lol Y’all got your hands full sleep.
I don't think it's so much that he loves Haywood. I see it more as if Haywood is a fail, their may be some blow back on the A.D. about the hire and salary.

The A.D. walked by one time buddy caught the vapors.

You be around sometimes, see for yourself.

I’m sure right now the TXSU faithful is feeling the wrath and calls are being made to the administration. I’m sure before the article came out nobody knew he was the highest paid in the SWAC let along in Black College Football. Yes I know he has D1 pedigree but think about it he put himself in this situation with his actions at Pitt but I’m not going to speak on that. Also he knows what’s at stake this isn’t his first HC gig. Fobbs was a first time head coach that some probably felt was hired to bring winning back but he has Grambling back to respectability. Southern should feel bad the way they paying Odums and the level of accountability. Jackson state fired a 90 year old man and they gettingvthe same results. My bulldogs better start winning or else because there is nothing we can do at this point.

2017 all of the sanctions were over. Up until that time, limited off campus recruiting as well having to give that darn infractions letter to the parents & recruits. I to believe Haywood can Coach. Personally I believe he was trying to build a program as opposed to winning quickly and leaving. Maybe he can not really Coach I do not know.

One thing I do know is that Alumni can complain all they want, at the end of the day it does not matter. Haywood, Davis, Perry, Robertson, probably all are near or at the top of the SWAC pay scale. The way I see it Charles and the administration are putting up the dollars, so they make the decisions.

The 100 fans we have and even less that provide financial support are getting exactly what we are paying for.

Perfect example; For years all I have heard is complaints about our weight room. A contributor to this board came up with an excellent plan to fix that problem for about 90000.00. Thought people all of a sudden became blind, deaf and mute.

Guess I have been in the other world to long. We need Texas to help us as Texas AM is helping PV.

Vent on my fellow Tigers. I think we are getting way more than we deserve.

CMac if you get a job offer anywhere, take it. Sending a donation to the Grambling foundation. They stepped up and gave Coach Fobbs what he deserved.

Oh by the way; graduation rates are up, apr is up, but that does not matter.

What can I saw, I like ole Haywood. I think he can coach. He needs to recruit a lot better. His first recruiting class D or D-.

It took a minute for my slow self to realize it but that is the key (in bold~red). It's easier for coaches, who recruit higher caliber student-athletes, to look like genuises when in factuality it's the IQ, acumen, drive, and athletic ability of the student-athletes themselves who are head and shoulders above others. Just because our young man is 6'4" 287lbs of fat and muscle does not equate their 6'4" 287lbs of 0.01% body fat and all muscle. The trench folks are the difference makers on those higher levels.

I've seen it.

Calm down ETT. lol :D I understand the venting though because I bytched and moaned a LOT through a decade and a half about our shatty deal and lack of quality coaches. FTR though... "aTm isn't helping PV." We're self-autonomous but our SYSTEM, our parent system, who we belong to, has the ultimate decision effecting where our growth/physical plant growth/$$$$ spent occurs, as it should be.

John Sharp loves the PV Campus. Force the deal thru to loan the 61 million to build the stadium and other infrastructure upgrades. No sarcasm, think it is over due.

Indeed. He's been a big ally of PVAMU. That was a helpful deal he structured, ironically initially proposed by your current AD/VP. *wink!* *wink!*

John Sharp loves the PV Campus. He personally pushed the stadium deal thru as well as some other infrastructure and improvements. All long overdue.

Just wished we had that tyoe of benefactor. Our regents can not fund our athletics i.e. a Tilman Feritta or a Wallace Welcome.

How is what they received "near the death penalty"? They were given 5 years probation, docked 2 scholarships and had practice restrictions. We were given 5 years probation, docked 5 scholarships and had practice restrictions plus couldn't have spring practices for a number of years.

The issue is bigger than Coaches or Athletics.
Been hearing/reading this same comment for 2 decades. So 2 decades later with the exact same B.S. How can you fix your mouth to ask someone for $? How can you look another alum in the eye and ask them to financially support the same old....

But how can this be true when the A.D. is the second coming?
