Texas Southern looking to produce more madness against Xavier

Meanwhile on the women's side,

#2 South Carolina 47

#15 NCAT 35

3rd Quarter

The Aggies are hanging tough.

Does Mike Davis get a tech in every game he is losing ?

On another note I’m proud of Texas So... even though they are down by 18 this is a good showing !

I don't agree with him, but I share his frustration with the officiating in the 2nd half.

Officiating aside, my points are now rearing themselves. They can't get rebounds, and now Reed has fouled out going aggressively for the block. Interior defense just got weaker.

A thing that prevents better showings from TXSU in the tournament is defense. The offense can score, but the lack of defense puts them in difficult positions. 102 to Xavier this year, 103 to North Carolina last year, and 93 to Arizona in a previous year in the tournament. TXSU's style is favored by the teams they are often matched against.

I said earlier that they are an average defensive team, and it shows. Additionally, they really had no real scoring threat outside of Jefferson. Others scored some points, but nothing that made a defense commit resources to stop them. Everybody on Facebook was talking about TSU slowing the ball up, yet that's not how they play. Their style is the same style that Xavier beat them with. All in all, good showing.

If they were matched up against Virginia, they probably would have given them some serious problems since Virginia doesn't really like fast-paced games.

Davis said specifically within the last week that we are not a good defensive team.

Early in second half when things went south a bit with Referees and self inflicted wounds we did not keep our composure and kind of let it get away. We refocused a little too late. We have to learn to play thru it. That will come with team maturity. Hopefully we can keep core of Trae, #2, #33,#5 and repeat. They probably confirmed that they can play with these kids and win 3 or 4 out of conference games and get a 14th seed.. Also commit to improve defense. If that means assistant coaching changes so be it. We have a 2 player to 1 coach/suit ratio on the bench. Should be able to get that done. You have to commit funds to defense.

Watching some of the game last night, I noticed how deep in the paint the Xavier bigs were allowed to catch the ball. There has to be some fight down there in the block to prevent that.

When they CATCH the ball inside the restricted circle, not much you can do to prevent an easy basket.

Defense is about desire, discipline and tenacity. Defense is a grind. Sometime you can not teach the intangibles it takes to be a good defensive player.

Playing defense requires you to sit in the chair. The burn you get from that makes you want to stand up.

Unless you have length at the top, the zone will always be an unwilling victim to the three.

yes they were allowed to camp out in the paint, make 2 or 3 moves and then shoot or paint. Not one 3 second call. Thats a lost call in college basketball.

I was impressed how Ohio St was down 15-0 but hung in there, did not get rattled ended up losing a close game. This is a factor of kids playing together for years. This is not TSU's model. Also impressed with how U of H sprints down court on Offense and defense. They do an all out sprint. Tha'ts that hustle and desire. Just observations, not mad at anyone. Anytime we get to go to NCAA is a successful season. Made conference $1.6 million everyone should be a TSU fan.
