It don't work like that. The conference makes their schedule and you get to use the dates they don't have you scheduled for. In some instances you can request certain dates not be used for conference games. I don't know why they changed some schools dates since it should have just been flipped from the 2017 schedule.

I hope coach Banks and Worm'nem on Football Scoop trying to fill a date like Grambling is for Sept. 15.
All I will say is this...and I'm on record saying the same when PV did it the year they won the SWAC with a 10 game schedule.
No matter the reason, there is no excuse for the folks at Southern to not at least try to schedule an 11th game. And in listening to Banks talk, he's given up. And to say that you don't want to use your open week before the Bayou Classic to play a game speaks volumes in not only how you view your own program, but in how you view your rival from the north.
Pretty damn sad and indefensible if you ask me.

What does it say?
It says your AD values that game (and the opponent you face in that game) so much that you need as much time as necessary to prepare for it. It indicates that one week isn't enough.

Gram needs a 11th game also. Why don’t they schedule one that weekend. Also , not to many teams have availability that late in the season.
Exactly! Grambling is TRYING to find an 11th game. The key word here is "trying". According to that article in The Advocate it appears Banks has given up on even trying to find an 11th game.

Right now, at least publicly, it seems like Southern doesn’t want to get a fifth home game to complete an 11-game schedule.
Look, don't get me wrong. I get it. From a traditional standpoint I understand why Banks would want to keep that open date. I too somewhat appreciate the build up that is associated with both teams having that bye week before the BC. However, I'm not going to limited my program to one particular open week if I'm faced with a particular situation like this one. That's the point I'm making. A case like this would be the exception, not the norm.

One has to measure the student athletes well being as well. I vaguely remember the AD trying to avoid playing 9 consecutive weeks.... (not sure that he has totally given up though it looks bleak)

If we can get the week before TCU (a little tricky because of the requirements for a Zero Week game) or Nov. 3 filled (tricky because teams are in conference play) we avoid that.
I would investigate this more, I think there's more to it than what they are saying publicly.
