They will win by default this year as they play catch up!
There is no need to have 8 teams as long as everyone can agree that for the past few years, the best two teams have met in the championship.

The numbers were only part of the BCS formula (which was tweaked throughout over the years by humans). The other element involved voters.

yeah due to bias. but we saw the last 3-4 years what happens when the championship is won on the field. Congrats to the SEC for their success THIS year. At least they have two good teams... :snicker:

Uhhh TP the SEC won the very first college football playoff championship.
I'm cool with 8 teams. Give teams like UCF to get in. Although OU, Clemson, Bama or Georgia........even Ohio State would beat the brakes off UCF in a playoff.
Just like Auburn beat UCF after beating both Alabama and Georgia, huh?

I wasn't surprised by the Auburn loss. You can use all the this team beat that team and that team beat this team so that means this team can beat that team BS all you want brotha. UCF is not on that level on. Hell using your logic, Appalachian State belongs in the BIg 10 after beating Michigan a few years ago. Any decent team can get up and beat somebody every now and then. What did Georgia do to Auburn in the title game? Yeah that's what I thought. keep trying, SEC hater. LOL

The Southeast overall has the better football athletes hands down. The SEC has the funding and recruiting ability to keep getting these type of players without going very far.
Michigan had to come way down south with their mini-camps to try and find comparable players and it blew up in Harbaugh's face.

Of course they did. So that makes Auburn better than Bama? So using your logic, LSU is the best team in the SEC and should have been in the playoffs because they beat Auburn, that beat Georgia and also Alabama. And since Georgia beat Oklahoma who beat Ohio State and Alabama beat Clemson and LSU who beat Auburn who beat Alabama........then why have a playoff and just crown LSU. Harbaugh issue is he still can't out recruit Urban. Urban getting down south players. Plus the state of Ohio HS football is better than Michigan HS football. Michigan has to recruit nationally. If you look at the best players in Michigan history the last 20 years. None are from there. Desmond Howard and Charles Woodson are both Ohio kids. Tom Brady was from Cali.
The dynamic is changing though. The better Head Coaches are dwindling in the SEC. When looked back to 2006 or so. You had Saban, Urban Meyer, Les Miles, Richt, Steve Spurrier, Tuberville, Philip Fulmer, Houston Nutt was doing good at Arkansas. Just think, 4 of those names won National Titles as HC. The coaching has had a drop off in the SEC over the last few years. Now outside of Saban, The rest are pretty much just okay. I guess Smart can be considered on the upswing as he has GA in the title game. But most think the rest of the coaches are average. That's the difference in the conference. Not the talent. It is the coaching talent.

By the way if you paid attention, you'd know that Bama had quite a few key starters out in the Auburn game and still only lost by 12 or 13. A healthy Bama shows what they can do......stifle the #1 team in the country. It's not done INCORRECTLY just because you hate the schools or conference that got in or the way it was done. Just like last year Ohio State got in over Penn State and didn't even win the Big 10 and everybody wants to say that's not right.........just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's not right, deal with it and if you don't like it, stop crying and turn the channel. Simple as that. For Ohio State, don't lose by 30 to Iowa and don't get whooped by OU at home and you get in. Plain and simple homie.

Here's the thing. We really don't know -- and it's fine to admit -- who is better than who considering all these teams haven't, or won't, play each other. We can project, but we really don't know without a result. Auburn was a 10-point favorite and got handled. We now know UCF is better than Auburn.
Regardless of how it occurred or what it means, there is an undefeated team out there who didn't get an opportunity to play for a national championship because there is an inherit bias against them based on where they are in the hierarchy of college football. It's a case of classism in that regard.
And quite frankly it's a bad look for the sport to have an unbeaten team not at least given the opportunity to compete for a championship. Folks can make all these arguments about the schedule or the conference they play in to attempt justify why they shouldn't be in the CFP. But they won all the game on the schedule, though. You can't ignore that.
If winning all the games don't get you a shot, then the system will be questioned.

I agree, we will never know from year to year. No, it's your opinion that UCF is better than Auburn. It's my opinion that if you play that game again this weekend, you'll see a different outcome. That's the beauty of sports though, we can debate and have our opinions.
Maybe they should have been given a shot. I got no problem with that. Using honesty though......how would they fare in your opinion in a 6 team playoff adding them and Ohio State? My opinion, a big first round exit no matter which team they would have played.

This question, and many similar to it, are asked in such way to attempt to create confirmation bias that UCF shouldn't be in a playoff, because most of the responses would generally lean toward the public saying they would lose.
I mean, we could use honesty in saying Texas Southern, Southern or a MEAC team would likely lose in the first round of the NCAA tournament. But nobody argues that the SWAC or MEAC should be completely shutout of the tournament because of how they are perceived as basketball conference.
