Willie Simmons is leaving PVAMU for FAMU

We keep giving three year contracts, which in hindsight, does handcuff a coach...we’re looking for stability and wins.

We haven’t been very patient with coaches at FAMU...we have to give Simmons some time.

Thats one way of looking at it but if any of those previous coaches had 5 years, you would have been stuck with them. I think 3 years is good and if they need a 4th or 5th, add it.

Not really, it all depends on what he inherited from the previous staff and what he can recruit. You can't turn it around in 2 years.

Good coaches turn programs around by year 2 all the time. There are many examples of this across all levels of football.

Odums
Fobbs
Hopson

All had year 2 turnarounds

But were the programs they did that with so bad as to what most of these programs we talk about are?

Which other programs are you referring to?

No coach can win when he only has 30-40 scholarships. Full ride athletic scholarships are the heartbeat of a program, but good coaches will always be able to win, even in limited resource situations. Look at Odums now. Another respectable season with limited practice time and limited scholarships. Give his same team to someone like James Spady and he wouldn't win because he's not a good decision maker.

Im not sure what SU, Gram or Alcorns scholarship situations were prior to and after their turn arounds, but the fact still remains that those programs were turned around in year 2.

Ive seen high school programs go from poor to great in year 2.

Its all a gamble. Really all depends on the coordinators and assistants.

If Hughes and Fobbs swapped coordinators, how would that play out?
HC still has to be able to make important decisions. But HC also has to be knowledgeable, Hughes just Doenst have a clue. He wanted to be arrongant and act as if his so called SEC process was best and as a result he is in the mist of hiring a new OC and also has had a change of heart on juco and transfers when he previously degraded Grambling and even Jacksonville state for there efforts in juco and transfer players.

All of this is false except getting a new OC. And he did not degrade gram nor jville state. He simply stated that you can build a program two ways. You can build them with Jucos or with highschool talent and he chose to do the latter. Hughes has brought in a few Jucos ever year (brought in about 11 last season). I expect him to bring in about the same as last season (maybe a few more) with the emphasis on quarterbacks in which we will have 3 or 4 new ones. Also a few of these Jucos will be guys that transferred away for more playing time that will be coming back. Kobe Gates is one that had a good juco season who is looking to xfer back in

None of what I said is false. Hughes specifically made it clear he was a high school guy and publicly made statements about Grambling and Jacksonville state regarding juco and transfer players. Hughes said thats how those schools were winning and he wud reframe from following the same routine. He said he would stick with the process of recruiting high schools kids. So how was this so false in my statement when in fact The clarionledger release an article today regarding Hughes wanting to bring in more juco and transfer players next year. I'm just not fooled by this guy. You just said u feel he will bring in the same as last year but the article stated he wants to bring in more so until ur more informed please just state your opinion and not respond to other statements claiming them as false. And anyone who has heard Hughes speak know he believes in this so called process that he thrives off. So again nothing I said is false. Just may not be that there of in line with your opinion

YoU stated he degraded those programs, that's false. He named programs that won with xfers and programs that won with highschool talent and chose the latter. So again degrading them was false. As far as the clarionledger article goes you are aware that this isn't anything NEW right. This has been going on since the beginning of time lol. I'm well in the know you are not. I know exactly how many visited today and will visit next week. TC is always late on information which makes you even later. But anyways this is a PV/famu thread. Let them folks have this thread for once

Smart move by Coach Simmons. Famu has a defense, Famu team (offense) just a play or 2 away from being a good team.

Any coach can look good on paper up until he has to coach in real time.
Look at what folks said about Spady when he was hired. Now look at what they're saying.

Basically what I was saying was that looking good on paper means nothing.
