Jackson State vs Mississippi Valley State: Game Updates - 2:00pm CT

The bolded is true. I've seen most of the SWAC games in person thus far this year and it is noticeable but still there was something that looked like an adjustment against UAPB and maybe them a throwing team. Once we did that, we forced their QB into a couple of turnovers. UAPB was most effective running the read option so I was happy to see the QB drop back and pass every down lol. Even against Grambling (another physical team), it didn't feel as bad as it was yesterday because their QBs couldn't throw either and we played them well defensively for about 3 quarters before they started pounding the rock.

It seemed like the coaches were scared to put 8 in the box against the running game because they thought the WRs would burn them. As most who watched the game saw, there was no threat of that at all.

You are right about WRs dropping some big passes (although the biggest dropped pass was by a RB who dropped a WIDE OPEN TD on a 4th down wheel route) so we share some of the blame on the loss but as I said before, this is the worst JSU team we've played in over a decade and we let them do that to us. Casey's teams didn't do that to us.

Well whoever the next coach is won't have a bare cupboard but definitely need a real RB and beef on the interior DL

Damn.

@In_The_662
This is what I was saying back when he got hired fam. Some coaches have to win off talent, they are not strategists, they are good recruiters. Even at JSU, once APR came into play, things changed a bit.

I ain't bragging on this win though. Hughes knows what he needs to do. I also agree that if Germany was calling plays, we would have lost.
Hmmm, I hope he does!

But yall are just Valley. What did you truly expect? I'm confused. Did you really expect to win? If so, then that was the beginning of your issue.

That was the worst coached game I've seen in the Comegy era. JSU's QB couldn't throw the ball 20 yards down the field but they made the adjustment to just run the ball in the 3rd and 4th quarter and looked like Alcorn running the ball and our coaching staff didn't even make any adjustments. We had one pick in the 1st quarter and 2 INT drops in the 1st half so we knew he couldn't throw yet they basically handed the ball off with some read option and made us look like Lynchburg.

I don't know what Even has on Comegy but for whatever reason he decided to stick with him in the 2nd quarter and I think most fans in the stands knew we were in deep s*** when he didn't pull him out for Fowler late in the 3rd when the game was still only 17-3. When he came out for the 4th I knew the game was over with. We got the better QBs and receivers but you wouldn't have known it. He should have stuck with Betts and took his chances. Musical chairs with QBs even with two good QBs is not good especially when you stick with the worst QB (3rd string QB) for 3 quarters when the game was never a threat to be over with until mid-4th Quarter

You don't have to worry about any 1 year extensions over here. The general consensus from the alums that matter is that it's over for Comegy.

Umm dude... Comegy is waiting on that retirement check. You think of all of his glorious years of coaching he wants to be at Valley? THAT Valley?

Man.. i dont know how you do it... but the cupboard at Valley will always be bare. You need to join the SIAC. You only give out 40 scholarships. You wont win with that.

So let me tell you a little secret. We just left Germany ball and now we are playing McCall ball. McCall, and Comegy knows this, throws the ball the first half. The other team can have the "worstest" run defense in the nation but McCall is going to air it out in the first half and then pound the ball the 2nd half. Don't ask me why but that is why we wanted him fired when we left Houston in 2013.

McCall's adjustment is pass first to see if they bite. If it works he will roll with it. If not he will go to the ground... The ground game is his adjustment second half..

But I'm still trying to figure out why he thought they would win, even though in his words "this was our worst team in history". Can someone help me out? Help me to understand what 662 was seeing before Saturday on why he thought they would win. Someone on this board once told me that "it's not fun when the rabbit has the gun ".

But the Delta Devils had a gun since, since....i don't know when. But it's never been fun for them. When Bell was there, OMJ, Hughes 2.0 (the dummy version), etc... Why did he really believe that he would win?

...and YET he says they have hope for the future! lol

I think Valley would be good in the SIAC and Comegy would be a GREAT D2 coach. They can leave and the SWAC wont need divisions anymore...

Dropping to D2 shouldn't be an option for Valley. I truly believe the right guy can win over there. I still think Comegy is 1 class away from making their depth chart relevant. SWAC or and not, you have to have quality bodies in the FCS ranks. There are some kids on their roster who can play. I would like for them to water down their non conference schedule in order to build some confidence to the program. To many blows to the head will make your team punch drunk. I use to preach that to GSU basketball fans all of the time. Scheduling tough non conference opponents don't help you when you are already scrapping for talent.

Bone, youve been saying that ever since Comegy got there. And how long that has been now? You don't understand, there's no help for Valley. They have sold their souls to the devil and their gun keeps backfiring. Bill Belicheck couldn't help them.

I sure hope and pray that you are wrong. I have pointed out 4 really good recruits that Comegy has brought to Valley who could have have gone to any SWAC school and started in due time. 3 of them have left the program, and the other (Betts) is still there. I hope he stays. I have always said that Comegy is going to need at least 4 "full classes" to get things rolling in the right direction. If he makes it past this season, I would like to see 1 more class. You won't hear anymore excuses from me next season.
I thought Comegy came in with the right mentality by bringing in kids from traditionally winning high school programs in attempt to change the culture. I thought he did a good thing by trying to bring in speed in the secondary and other areas. I just don't want to believe that they have sold their souls. I do wish they had changed their mascot. Lol

Good luck Rick! I sure hope you find stride soon.

But they are not fully funded to really bring in 4 full classes. Every class is short. ,Comegy, on average, has to split 10 scholarships per class. They need to be D2

In a world where division II programs can beat SWAC programs, I believe that Valley can find a way to survive with the right leadership. Maybe I am in denial, but I believe that a FCS or division II caliber team can win at least 4 confernce games every so often in the SWAC. You add on 1 lower tier FCS and 1 weak division II program to your non conference schedule every so often, and you are looking at a possible 6-6 or 6-5 season.
