Jackson State vs Mississippi Valley State: Game Updates - 2:00pm CT

lol judging by these comments, I believe some of you wanted to see Jsu lose today and go winless this season. If so the hate for Jsu is mad real lol. Even for the alumni/fans of schools who've already beaten Jsu. Nevertheless good win Tigers. Bring on Bama state.
About right, lol!

I picked JSU to win, but I expected a better performance from Valley. Rick might have 1 more year to prove he still had fuel in the tank.

@BraveMan97

I stand by my comments on Betts. I know my team isn't in the running for the SCG and we're in last place in the West, but I take back nothing I said about that kid. He played an amazing game against us. He's a good QB for a true freshman and will make noise in the SWAC.

Congratulations JSU on your victory.

That was the worst coached game I've seen in the Comegy era. JSU's QB couldn't throw the ball 20 yards down the field but they made the adjustment to just run the ball in the 3rd and 4th quarter and looked like Alcorn running the ball and our coaching staff didn't even make any adjustments. We had one pick in the 1st quarter and 2 INT drops in the 1st half so we knew he couldn't throw yet they basically handed the ball off with some read option and made us look like Lynchburg.

I don't know what Even has on Comegy but for whatever reason he decided to stick with him in the 2nd quarter and I think most fans in the stands knew we were in deep s*** when he didn't pull him out for Fowler late in the 3rd when the game was still only 17-3. When he came out for the 4th I knew the game was over with. We got the better QBs and receivers but you wouldn't have known it. He should have stuck with Betts and took his chances. Musical chairs with QBs even with two good QBs is not good especially when you stick with the worst QB (3rd string QB) for 3 quarters when the game was never a threat to be over with until mid-4th Quarter

You don't have to worry about any 1 year extensions over here. The general consensus from the alums that matter is that it's over for Comegy.

I don't understand what Comegy is doing with his QB situation. He must be reading the same coaching for dummies book that Spady is reading.

Man. Comegy knows what he needs to do to build a program, but maybe the Valley gig is just too much for the old man. I sure was rootin for them to get it going.

I'm sure Comegy is working on his state retirement years. If Valley doesn't extend his contract he's falling short.

Valley won't extend his contract

Fixed it for you lol

We let JSU's worst team in 10 years come in and beat us by almost 20 in Itta Bena. Whatever support he might have had at the possibility of winning 4-6 games this year is all but gone after this coaching performance

I take it the child (Betts) didn't start/play in the game? If he didn't, then I understand your earlier post.

:)

Betts did start/play (ignore the brave dude he's just typing) but got pulled because he couldn't get anything going. He looked the worst out of the Valley qbs this game.

Really? Wow.

Thanks for the clarification. I know you're glad for your Tigers.:)

This is the first time I've seen Valley this year but as soon as I saw them one thing stood out, they were much smaller physically than JSU...and I'd imagine everyone else they'll play in the SWAC. So, that should have made the game plan against Valley pretty simple IMO, just pound them. I'd imagine if Germ was calling the plays he'd be passing every down with our QBs who aren't good passers...and going 3 and out or throwing ints. I basically only saw the 2nd half. Valley had some good plays but your receivers dropped some big passes. Comegy was just physically overmatched and his team had very little room for error.

Damn 662! I wanted to see him turn it around in the Deltas. I still think he needs one more recruiting class to start winning, but I can understand the frustration and impatience when you are falling below teams who are at their worst points in recent years. If y'all get rid of him this season, I sure hope y'all bring in the right guy.

@In_The_662
This is what I was saying back when he got hired fam. Some coaches have to win off talent, they are not strategists, they are good recruiters. Even at JSU, once APR came into play, things changed a bit.

I ain't bragging on this win though. Hughes knows what he needs to do. I also agree that if Germany was calling plays, we would have lost.

The bolded is true. I've seen most of the SWAC games in person thus far this year and it is noticeable but still there was something that looked like an adjustment against UAPB and maybe them a throwing team. Once we did that, we forced their QB into a couple of turnovers. UAPB was most effective running the read option so I was happy to see the QB drop back and pass every down lol. Even against Grambling (another physical team), it didn't feel as bad as it was yesterday because their QBs couldn't throw either and we played them well defensively for about 3 quarters before they started pounding the rock.

It seemed like the coaches were scared to put 8 in the box against the running game because they thought the WRs would burn them. As most who watched the game saw, there was no threat of that at all.

You are right about WRs dropping some big passes (although the biggest dropped pass was by a RB who dropped a WIDE OPEN TD on a 4th down wheel route) so we share some of the blame on the loss but as I said before, this is the worst JSU team we've played in over a decade and we let them do that to us. Casey's teams didn't do that to us.

Well whoever the next coach is won't have a bare cupboard but definitely need a real RB and beef on the interior DL

Don't forget that Betts is still a freshman. I see what you see in this kid.

Thanks Basebone. :)

And yes, this child is a TRUE freshman! I really hope Coach Comegy gets a chance to work with this kid. If Valley doesn't stick with Comegy, I hope he (Betts) can hone his QB skills under an EFFECTIVE, good coach. The child is very, very talented.

Maybe those shenanigans before the game started had a lot to do with how the team responded. McCall is calling plays now and offensively geared towards the strength of our team which are the runningbacks since qb play is shaky. You guys did start to put 7 to 8 in the box in the 2nd half in which we countered by adding a tight-end on the line and putting 2 backs in the backfield, something that Germany would only do once a year. And Casey's 2010 team beat you by almost 40.
