Mississippi SWAC schools among smallest athletic budgets in Division 1

Just goes to show that we do more with less. Our funding goes primarily to academics.

So help me out on this Jay. No smack, just want your take.

How much has changes in leadership in athletics and at the university as a whole impacted the athletics budget? What about passing the buck onto the backs of students in athletics fees? Have here been any recent attempts to do that in order to bolster the budget?

We know things cost more now than they did in the past. How has JSU, in your opinion, managed to keep things flat cost-wise while continuing to offer student-athletes a good environment?

One more thing, given he JSU budget remains flat, would it be difficult for JSU to make the necessary investments in the event another conference comes calling?

Judging by the 2015-16 budgets, it looks like PV, Alabama State, TSU and Southern have the wiggle room in the event of another round of conference realignment.

Not in academics and fan support. You sound kinda bitter and jealous. And where did you make folk eat their words? Nowhere that I can tell.

JSU could pass the costs on to the students but they've not seen the need to do so.
Our AD, over the past five or so years, hasn't been astute enough to put people in the right place as far as coaching hires.
In football, we goofed up and hired two novices over the last four years with little to no head coaching experience; both are close to 55 to 70 years of age.
We had an AD who was flat out incompetent at hiring a quality football coach, while over-paying them. That was one of our main problems. Hopefully next time, we'll get it right now that that AD is gone.
After saying all of that, I still have to give our former AD credit for keeping us at the top in regards to APR across the board.
The reason JSU's in the current financial crunch is due to our ex-president utilizing funds to build and acquire multiple properties off-campus for housing purposes.
If another conference comes calling, it's not just about athletics. Academic standing would perhaps play a major part as well.
No need to even discuss that right now. We don't want to become another Tenn. State.

Exactly even under Comegy the football program received cuts almost every year and we were still winning games in this conference. And budget cuts has nothing to do with the performance on the football field who in the hell was going to win with Harold Jackson as a head coach? lol Meyers led us to this mess and it will be a while before financially we get out...

Even with that said we have had one of the best recruiting classes and the best off seasons in terms of bring in transfers and talent that we have had in a long time since Comegy...Do ya homework JSU is coming back...

Exactly.. Finances and academics play a heavy part in moving conferences.....TN State athletic dept is really in no better shape than most of SWAC athletic programs.. Compliance wise they are pretty good..but they are in no way thinking about moving to any other conference they dont have the funds to travel like that..
