Remember that $500,000 a year the City of Birmingham was providing the SWAC each year until they dipped but that $500,000 has not been replaced by the city of Houston or any other sponsors? Welp.....

Man it ain't nothin to ruffle yo feathers about. History all it does is repeat itself. We've not had a swac championship longer dan we've had a swac championship. Sooner or later will be right back having a championship. Look at how at first we had the pelican bowl dan heritage bowl now celebration bowl. Just stay the course because thangs happen in life rules change.

The conference has to come up with tie breaker rules. They need to go ahead and end these divisions tho.

Many of us saw this happening when the decision was made to move the SCG to Houston. Reality is a bitch!
 
I'm just sitting back thinking about this decision. So the decision was made to not have the SWAC championship anymore but a contingency was not immediately put in place?
 
NRG Stadium's seat capacity is 72,220. With 24,917 fans showing up last year, someone is losing money here.

Sharp said the SWAC wasn't.

"Houston did a great job of supporting the game, the two teams," he said. "We had really good crowds. I wouldn't say the game was losing money at all. I think presidents just looked at it and said, 'Do we want to continue to compete against our own bowl game?'"

Man this is about losing money. If you change something because you not making enough money then by default it is about money. If you make a decision based upon competition it is about money.

Damn Duer just say....."We didn't feel we were making the proper fiscals necessary so we are stopping the SWAC Championship Game and will move forward with a 9 game mandate and we shall develop a tie breaker plan that is suitable for the conference."

I can't speak for everyone but Alcorn supported the game against JSU, SCG, and the Celebration Bowl. To me it seemed like they were basing it off of this year when Grambling had to represent. The last 2 years Alcorn brought fans to the SCG. Southern brought fans to the SCG in 2014 and they had the Bayou Classic the week before. It might have been easier having the SCG in Birmingham and alot cheaper than being in Houston. Birmingham was a 1 day trip for everyone I know from JSU or Southern. Everyone I know said they LOVED going to Houston, even thought they took Friday off from work and spent 2 nights in Houston.
 
By reading Duer Shap response, this is all Alcorn's fault, if we would have took care of business and not flopped in the second half against Grambling we wouldn't be having this discussion right now. Alcorn fans didn't complain about have to go to Houston and then Atlanta 2 weeks later. We made travel plans soon as we got home. If we would have beat Grambling those rooms would have been booked as soon as we left NRG. Alot of Grambling fans said last year that the Celebration Bowl would have been too much for them and they would have had to watch it on TV. The only difference is that Alcorn fans only spent 1 night in Atlanta.

How Alcorn folks are talking you would think the game went to 21, 096. Neither game cracked 40,000 in big ATL but one is bragging over 4, 432 more people as it was 14, 432 more and in a big stadium like that. I actually expected Alcorn to really pack it out since they have never played in a game against the MEAC of that magnitiude being on ABC. Alcorn didn't even get to play in the Heritage Bowl and first time playing in the SCG was 2014 since the 1999 inaugural season of the game so i would have though they would have actually been more excited. By the way the game in Jackson isn't no where remote to the cost that The Bayou Classic is so bad analogy.
 
Your fans were outnumbered bad in Houston by a 2-1 ratio. Your fans were the one saying that yall skipped the SCG to go to the Celebration Bowl even though the Celebration Bowl proved otherwise. The Bayou Classic is a game you know you are going to every year. Why is it not in your budget. The trip to Houston is not that expensive. I have even heard some SU fans saying they spent less money going to Houston than they did for the Bayou Classic. A trip to Houston shouldn't cost over $500 for a family of 4. Alcorn should have less fans than yall especially with yall school being almost twice as big as ours. Alcorn and JSU might get off cheaper in the Magnolia Bowl as it is a turnaround trip for 80% of the fans. I like the atmosphere for the game as the Magnolia Bowl to me is nothing but a big family. We knew the MEAC wasn't going to bring any fans to the Celebration Bowl and the only team in the MEAC with a following is FAMU.

Don't sleep on South Carolina State. They brought a nice crowd when we played them in the Heritage Bowl.

So you're in people's pockets telling them how to budget, please. Don't act like 40,000 was at the SCG or CB when Alcorn was in it especially the CB. Grambling has to also deal with PV in Dallas, Gramblinites have to foot out money during the season due to location. Alcorn doesn't have to do all of that.
