Southern (BR) to play "Southern" (Hattiesburg, MS) in 2017

Don't know what we're going to do about FAMU or adding Tennessee State...

Don't know whether the NCAA is going to let FCS play 12-game seasons from 2017 on out...

Remember the Swac goes to the 7 game format so that gives you 4 non conference games.

If the NCAA allows FCS to have 12-game seasons in 2017, then it's conceivable that Southern (and other SWAC schools) will just play the whole 9-game slate and roll with three nonconference dates.

After that (shoulda been) loss to Alcorn I'm shocked USM wanted to play a SWAC school so soon..

But as somebody posted before, There doing this to have a packed house. They know Southern will bring fans so it should be a nice atmosphere

The Chancellor at Southern Dr. Brown was once the President at Alcorn and he hired Jay Hopson. I wonder did that relationship play a part in getting this deal done?

Brown isn't the chancellor. They combined SUBR chancellor position with system president, like it was done at LSU. Ray Belton is System President/SUBR Chancellor.

My wife went to USM. I have to correct her all the time when she calls that school "Southern". One time she was with me at JSU and people asked where she went to school and she said SOUTHERN... they frowned and snarled and i had to jump in and say USM... They were like ooooooh.... that's okay then.... LOL

Right. I'd expect Black folks to know better, but some don't. Back in high school, one of my classmates told me he was going to "Southern". For four years, I thought he was in Baton Rouge somewhere, then I saw him at the JSU/ USM game in 2002. And this is a guy who's mother was the director of the J-Settes, or whatever that title is. He grew up in the SWAC. LOL

You know what...I go through the same thing with my wife, a USM alumna, too. I told her I was going the "JSU/ Southern" game this year, and she said, "they play each other again this year?". I didn't question it at first, but thought about it a week later and realized she was thinking USM, not SU.

Edward Worthy. I believe that's his name.
I'm from B-Town and that's usm's backyard. All my white & black classmates, cousins, friends, teachers, family who attended USM said Southern (and that's what I grew up saying).
I don't see what the big deal is. Hell its a JSU in Bama. So what, who cares if they say JSU instead of Jacksonville state university. That's some shit I expect the college kids to argue over. Kinda like the real "HU" between Howard & Hampton's undergrads. Not grown adult men. Winston-Salem State is SU. Y'all mad at them for that? Lol

As far as the game, May the Real Southern Win :D
