How is UGA "exploiting" Gales "for public relations brownie points" and what would you have UGA do differently? I've read quite a few articles since the accident,and I thought UGA was above board in supporting Gales and his family.
Yeah, the way Georgia has treated Gales and his family is obviously great PR for the school. We can't discount that.
But whatever alleged exploitation is accused here, doesn't supersede Georgia's gestures, because the school really didn't have to do anything beyond initial support after the kid got injured.

SMH.....so UGA does something they wrong...they do they are wrong. So if UGA would have stabilized him and flew him back to Baton Rouge and that was it....folks would have screamed "foul UGA know they could have done more."

The way UGA's going about everything just rubs me the wrong way. Press conferences, photo-ops, etc.
I don't blame them for their deeds. I blame them for being haughty about it. It's almost like they're trying to play a one-up game with Southern.
Just my opinion.

I'm glad they did. They won the PR game in the fall. However, they didn't really have to keep up with it after Mark Richt got got. Devon could've been easily pushed to the back burner.
Strategically, keeping his story out there helped raise more awareness for Devon, which in turn helped raise more funds to help him and his family. By-product is UGA looking pretty good in the process.
Devon's story has been getting run in Baton Rouge for months by WBRZ and WAFB. Hell, I know more about the Shepherd Center than anything since Devon got hurt.
The question is now what will be his progress when he gets back home. How will the SUBR and Baton Rouge/EBR community rally around him? Will Devon get the key to the city from the mayor?
If I'm Southern, I would try to incorporate Devon into fixing the ADA problems. Have him at the Capitol rallying folks and the whole nine. He could wind up being a great young spokesperson.
