No Spring Practice for Southern Football

You're one win away from the SCG and you blame practice? That's like losing a game by 30 points and blaming the kid that lost the fumble in the 1 quarter for it.
Wrong. Not stopping Carter on kickoff returns and leaving wr's open all day cost you the spot in the SCG.

I'm blaming the personnel AND practice more-so. Leading up to the Grambling game we had only played three games with an entire new staff. Two of the DBs who started that game had their minutes dropped drastically after that, one never playing again and the other only playing when games were out of hand. All special teams spots were even opened back up. That game changed everything for our team. This was the week following the game we gave up 49 points to AAMU, who never came close to scoring that many points again.

My point is, had we had a Spring practice we would've never even been in that position as our coaches really only had Fall camp to evaluate players and build a true depth chart. Players would've already been familiar with the scheme and the weaknesses and habits of our players would've already been pointed out and addressed.

I'll show you the stats from Games 1-4 (sTu, Texas St., AAMU, Gram) compared to games 5-11 shortly.... They're day and night.

"STATS ARE FOR LOSERS." - waiting for someone to chime in w/ that silly rhetoric.

What PV7 posts is true. All of it. And he also forgot to add that we were under APR reduced practice time, as well. So, the proper evaluation didn't easily occur until game time (first 4 games). There was a tremendous change once the proper student-athletes were allowed to play.

Good luck to everyone as they approach their fall 2016 season.

That's well thought out and make sense. But my point is the same thing could have happen had you had practice .

It's not like practice is some miracle guarantee that PV would have won.

We could be on here complaining about the obvious touchdown and out of bounds call the refs miss. But what's the point?

I guess the point is that people are in here saying Spring practice is useless, when we are saying it is of value, especially with new personnel or staff or both. We are saying if Spring practice is so useless then once you are off restriction what is the point in having spring again? It's ok to say we will overcome the handicap we were dealt or say we have the talent and know exactly how to use them without spring practice, then everyone would quit tripping, but to say Spring practice does nothing for a team just because you are on restriction is what has made this thread 5 pages long.
