Where do BCU fans be at during the other games? lol
Well this was almost the first then, because the only reason halftime wasn't shown was because neither band submitted there music list in time to be cleared for broadcast. ESPN was going to pay for the clearance but they didn't submit in time. Just like Georgia paid for SU to be broadcasted but SU submitted the nessasary paper work. So blame ASU and a&t directors !!1. Calling the Celebration Bowl an HBCU national championship game
Now if you saw the broadcast, commercials or postgame banter, you saw this game being billed as an HBCU National Championship. Just because ESPN said it does not make it true. Remember, ESPN put this game together. It's their network. So of course to get as much buzz as possible, they'll call it a national championship game. The lines between journalism and product promotion were virtually non-existent.
It is not an HBCU national championship game for the simple reason that all HBCUs are not eligible to go. There are two other conferences made up mostly of HBCUs, the CIAA and the SIAC. Of course, those conferences participate in at the Division II level vs. the MEAC and SWAC's FCS level, but they are also HBCUs so you can't have a national championship game that every HBCU isn't eligible for. Even if you wanted to make it an FCS national championship game, you'd still be leaving out Tennessee State, which competes in the Ohio Valley Conference.
That's not to say A&T shouldn't be the HBCU champs. But what if Tennessee State gets into the playoffs and makes a run, or a team in Division II makes a run at a national title? How could you claim they weren't HBCU champs based on a bowl game they can't qualify for?
Here we go again with this ridiculous idea of having division level II involved in everything that's hbcu. As if they really can compete week in and week out with division I schools.
Nevermind that the two conferences don't have the same standard to qualify for entrance in to their schools. Or that their standards for staying eligible by the ncaa is different.
Let's just pretend we're at home with an Xbox 3 plugged in to our 60" HD Samsung and make it up as we go.
Oh and there's this one other little pesky problem. It's forbidden by the ncaa to have any championship games or playoffs between division 1 and division II level conferences.
You would think that a blog that professes to be an information for sports would know these things. Or maybe they are just trying to drive up hits by posting a topic that they know gullible fans with no basic knowledge of the ncaa rules would eat up.
2. Noon start time
The Celebration Bowl was broadcast live on ABC, which is huge for any FCS teams, let alone HBCUs. It also kicked off the bowl season, which was pretty cool. But a 2 P.M. start would have given the crowd a little more time to fill in compared to the noon kickoff. Especially with a sizeable chunk of people traveling in from out of town who likely hung out overnight in Atlanta.
This is the big times. Black folk bitched and moan for years complaining that they deserve coverage like the bigger school because of their historical contributions to the sports.
There's only one job hbcu fans have and that is to show up at the games. Others have been doing it for years and doing it in numbers.
Do our job as fans and stop expecting to be spoon fed. They're the ones paying the bill.
Again another little problem with this suggestion. It would collide head on with other bigger bowl games and the NFL this time of the year.
Again something you would think a blog dedicated to sports would know.
3. No halftime broadcast
Look, no one understands the importance of the on-the-field product at HBCUs better than us. But for the casual fan, band performances are a big part of the appeal of black college football. ABC/ESPN has to accommodate the sponsors, but the fans on TV want to see the bands.
ESPN has never showed halftime of any college football game. So why do you expect them to treat us any differently?
Again stop asking to be spoon fed. This is the big times.

Yeah we have to do it for the Bayou Classic. Same thing with the televised parades, bands have to submit the songs they're playing. I think it has to do with music copyright or something.Wow, I find that information to be pretty interesting. May I ask how you know this? I didn't know all of that was necessary.
The Rose Bowl shows halftime.Which espn game have you seen that showed halftime?
Yeap.The Rose Bowl shows halftime.

Kenn just because a marching band is playing someone's song doesn't exempt them from being seen has an entity that is resailing someone's music and without the proper documents they can be sued !!!
Yep music rights organizations such as ASCAP and BMI would sue if a song represented by them is played with out being cleared and the appropriate fees aren't paid.
When did this start? It was not this way in the 80's or 90's.

Now I've been to two Florida Classics 2000 and 2002 and both were pretty much evenly matched with Rattlers and Wildcats fans.

Yes any portion of halftime that includes copywritten music counts. But they still don't show the halftime of the Bayou Classic unless you consider those excerpts showing the halftime performances.
Well some of the ticket scanners weren't on their A-Game. I had to stop long enough for this older ticket scanner Lady to scan my Wife's and my ticket. If anything, there may have been an undercount if they went by ticket scans.
I sat on the NCA&T side and the folks I talked to were excited about the game unlike these haters on these other boards. Looked like 35k to me also.
