'Guarantee' games are they worth it for the HBCUs

I know, I know...but its time out for letting these shadetree administrators off the hook for not being good stewards of our dollars.

I understand where you're coming from but it's not like we have been playing these types of games regularly. So it isn't fair to accuse them of not using the monies earn from these types of game wisely.

I think he's talking about some of our trifling fans not administration

Yea I picked that up. I was referring to our folks paying top dollar to SEC games but complain about a $20-25 ticket to our own games. Probably would complain about a $10 ticket and say how they spent so much time and money at the school and ask why they should pay. Smh. But would rather turn around pay more money to bigger and better schools at their games when they are already millions and billions ahead of us.

I was referring to both Administration and Fans. We don't need to see Miss ASU, and the whole SGA crew. At away games, we only need to see Miss ASU and the SGA President. That's it. Band wise, the Bands can be shrunk too for away games.

Watch what happens though in the future. Those FBS will stop handing us tickets to sell and just make everybody go to their website and purchase them. They are going cut their costs by making more of us pay them more.

See, the SWAC aren't the only ones with HBCU Alumni all over the country. The MEAC has Alumni Chapters too all over the country. This blantant ignorance of SWAC vs. FCS must stop. We are FCS Period, End of Story. I find it amazing how we depend on opponents to help fill up our stadium. This is backwards. SE Louisiana, McNeese, and Cal Poly have ALL visited Alcorn within the last decade. The Key is just being as even as possible. Don't schedule Tn State and FAMU as both home games one year when you have to travel to both the next year. That strains you. Schedule one for Home and Other Away and Flip Flop the next year.

Oh well.
some schools depnd on these massacre games year after year to help their bottom line. Gald to see JSU dont.

This is just our 6th FBS game in our history. Liked that we actually hanged with them for almost a half but in the end, it turned out just like I said it would. Not even close.

We could have scheduled a next door neighbor fcs team at home and made $300k at home for the first game. Lol

That has been the issue at HBCU's for years. Supporting your own. We will pay top dollar to see an SEC Game, but complain when our own schools ask for a nickel at the gate.

TELL ME ABOUT IT!!!

HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES:

1. I paid $154 for 3 season ticket books for GSU. At JSU I would have spent close to $500.

2. the press box tickets for the Shreveport game 3 years ago was $125 a piece. This year they are $75..WTH!!!!

I have told people that I believe GSU is not charging enough for season tickets. Hell for the Tech/SU game I spent $70 for tickets!!!!

Hell I am willing to spend $500 for three season tickets to GSU.

And who would that be? Y'all keep making these accusation that some schools are dependent on these games as if they have been playing them year in and year out twice a year for the last five years or so.

Maybe I'm missing something because I don't see any of our schools doing that. Help me out here.

No one school in particular. Jut reading and laughing at the pro and con responses to this thread.

Bottom line is if you schedule these games year after year with no hope of winning, just going because of the check, you have made yourself dependent on these games.

Some schools schedule multiple games like this. What are you scheduling these games for other than a check? This is not smack and it sure aint rocket science to figure out why these games are scheduled. You damm sure dont schedule GEORGIA, for example since im talking to you, and even dream you gonna be in that game past the playing of the star spangled banner.

Competition for our players my ass. Aint nothing competitive about these games. You want competition, play SFA, MCNEESE, OR SAM HOUSTON to name a few. There are no excuse you can use if you get blown out by 50 against them.

Look at the schedules since 2000 and see for yourself. They not hard to find. I never want to see us play Miss State again. FOR WHAT........ LOL

Braveheart has somewhat of a point regarding the revenue. Ya'll can clown him/her all you want, but all the SWAC schools aren't reinvesting those dollars where they should.

It is impossible to "reinvest" money in our programs when we are simply trying to balance our athletic budgets. It is the equivalent of living paycheck to paycheck. That's what "money games" are for. Reinvestment money should come from donors...not money games.

And PV beat them and folks still didn't give them credit for it saying they suck as a FCS school smh.
That Is the way people are.
They would rather play a OOC FBS school so when they get drug, they got a built in excuse for losing. A 50 point loss to a FCS school and you have to admit you crap. That is what people are scared of using FBS games as a cover up.

PV beat them and now everybody wanted to say they were crap. Lol

A check.

Some of us GSU folks believe that if we play a P5 conference school then the other games should be FCS programs. This seven game mandate is going to show who really wants to be competitive.

That's all well and good but I don't recall anybody claiming these games were scheduled for competition. Having said that the players as someone mention earlier don't have a problem with these games because they are curious to see how they measure up.

To be honest if we are serious about holding our coaches accountable why wouldn't we play these games and get a check in the process? Because there sure isn't any FCS school that's going to write that type of check.

We talk about playing the upper level FCS schools (something I have supported from day one) but playing the upper tier FCS schools does absolutely nothing for your budget. With the seven game mandate back in place we can actually do both and that's what the upper tier FCS schools do because just like the rest of us they need the check too. i.e. McNeese vs LSU

It's really funny to read posts from folk who are adamantly against the playoffs because there's no money to be made, then turn around and cry about money games that probably make more than our home games. Now, you'd rather play another FCS team I games that ain't gone make a dime. Y'all some of the biggest hypocrites on this planet. ADs got a job and it's keeping the athletic department in the black. They ain't getting money from us. Like some have said, either we step up to the plate and provide the much needed money or we STFU!!! This is business and if it don't make dollars....

And there you have it

And some wonder why our commissioners aren't accessible. Hell I wouldn't want to have to deal with this insanity everyday either.

That has been the theme the past few days and like many have said, ain't too many of us cutting $250K-$500K checks so that we don't have to play these games in football and basketball so it's a necessary evil for many of us

Aint nobody hypocrites.

Remember........I was all for the playoffs until it was clear we was never going again.
I just laugh at all the hub bub at people claiming that we need to build up our own attendance at home and then they turn around and play every FBS and classic they can get in away from home.

Im not saying dont play these games. Ads have just gotten stupid when scheduling. What I'm saying is for conference teams that have problems beating teams in our own bottom teir conference, we have no reason at all to be playing a power 5 conference team. lol

Mid majors will kick up to sleep just as bad. Difference is for a half, you might actually get some good game planning in before the wheels fall off. Most teams in this conference got smoked getting taped up in the locker room. Being behind by 40 before the end of the 1st qtr aint bout crap. Lol

And miss me with this check stuff. Im still waiting for anyone on this board to show me what has decades of money games have done for you except keep the lights on on other week.

If your program is in that state then quit trying to support 16 sports and drop down. Stubborn PRIDE......NOT MONEY is what's killing a lot of HBCUs these days.

You shole is right Robber.

I've been waiting to reveal this just for this moment:

Ok in Theory, let's say SE Louisiana were to visit Alcorn. Let's say Alcorn is having a bad year and only has 3000 people buy a ticket while SE Louisiana only has 100 people buy a ticket. You have 3,100 people who have officially bought a ticket. The tickets are $25 each. 3,100 x $25 = $77,500 total BUT FOLLOW ME:

Before the 3,100 even get on campus, they must get a parking pass at $15 Each. 4 people can fit in a full size car so 3,100/4 = 775 Cars on campus. A car is a car unless it's a RV so the number of people in the car will not matter in this instance. $775 x $15 = $11,625

Say if you have Game Programs at $5 Each and sale about 100 of those: $500

So let's add the revenue so far: $77,500 + $11,625 + $500 =. $89,625

Keep in mind I have NOT even factored in the Concession Stand or In Stadium Merchandise Sales

Now, after the game is over, you subtract your expenses from your revenue and you will either get a profit or a loss. Keep in Mind: ALCORN Is HAVING A BAD YEAR.

HBCU Alums, we have been getting robbed. They are intentionally UNDERSTATING Attendence AND Money Game Check Total. Your eyes do not deceive you, there is more revenue being made than HBCU Adminstrators are admitting.

If a $500k+ money game is just helping us live from check to check, there are other issues at play that need to be addressed. And not just on message boards and Facebook groups.

Have you factored in your OPERATING COSTS before you start counting the Revenue? You do realize it costs to host a football game. The programs cost money to make. You have to pay your personnel for their time to perform the various job functions from security to parking to concessions. Not to mention the cost of the stadium being open and running with full power.

SE LA had the same issues for years with no crowd at their games. To the point they stopped having football period. Nicholls State is having the same issues now.
