'Guarantee' games are they worth it for the HBCUs

Half of the kids WANT to play a game against FBS level competition anyway.

The question is, are they ready for the aftermath? It is pretty common knowledge that the brain is not fully developed on the average until 25. If an athlete hear something negative from a peer or different mediums for example there should be some type of positive reinforcement around to help. Some want to act like they know what these kids are dealing with and how they process things but in fact don't. "You go to an inferior school and further getting an inferior education. Why are you wasting time at that "onyx" school? You got beat like you stole something and play like a bunch of dummies. You're playing high school football." You think players don't hear these things sometimes although it's false and a bunch demagogue but can't use positive reinforcement? If so, think again.... I see a lot of posts also about pay checks and nothing about student welfare.

See, here is the thing. A Profit is a Profit. Rather it $500,000, $100,000, $50,000, PROFIT IS PROFIT.

BUT WHERE IS THIS MONEY GOiNG?

...You Can't Lie and Tell Me it is going to Athletics when Baseball Coaches are having to take two jobs to makes Ends Meet.

....You Can't Lie and Tell Me it's going to Athletics when a weightroom is in such pitiful condition that it actually endangers the Athlete that is suppose to use it for improvement.

....You Can't Lie and Tell Me it's going to Athletics when a Coach Himself has to expose things to the Media to bring attention to it. No Way, No How.

STOP THE LIEING!!!! PEOPLE ARE NOT STUPID!!!!
PV building a Stadium, rec center and football comples, Bama State already has, SU added on, JSU was fine will need to do more soon, I mean do you really know how much it cost to maintain 18 sports in athlectics without major donors...smh

Some of these teams beat their conference members by 50 on the regular also. Heck didn't Alcorn put up 76 on PV last year? Did someone check their psyche after that game?

They certainly should have had a team psychologist in place. And this resource should not only be in place for one game. "Is this football thing for me? What am I getting out of the beat downs every week? What am I getting out of playing for a perennial loser? Why do I need to go to class every day, I'm only here for football. I don't have enough money, let me steal something."

Seems like the fans need to see a sports shrink, too.

I certainly agree with that. In most instances you will encounter sincere ignorance in this thread but once in a while conscientious stupidity will come creeping around.

Few care about athlete welfare.

Many fans are inherently selfish and only are concerned with using the outcomes of these games as a barometer for their own validity and self-worth, because the athletes, in a sense, are vehicles for their hopes and dreams.

It part of the reason why belabor this same topic year after year.

I agree.....But I also believe based on the posts that there is quite a bit of sincere ignorance. It's dangerous but can be corrected.

It's not just our schools playing in some of these money games, they are other FCS schools doing the same. Some have better luck than others but they are still getting beat like our schools.

Thanks for posting this.... It needs to be known that HBCUs are not the only ones taking these payday games.

Well it's not like PV didn't score any points on them either. They put up 40+ points in that game.
How many other conference members did that?

I really don't think our players have that problem as a whole....Spady tells them when recruited as a plus "hey you will get to play these FBS teams"....I think for the most part players know its just a matter of those schools having more resources, but they still want to go out and compete against the best competition they can on a college level on TV...(all our fbs games have been on tv)

their college friends may get on them about the score..but at the end of the day the average peer will realize the dynamics of the score being that way...I think people were most proud of the score being 7-7 and possibly 14-7 ..if you were able to see the 1st quarter you see we had another redzone opportunity where our receiver D. Johnson caught the ball near the goal line a few inches out of bounds

Braveheart has somewhat of a point regarding the revenue. Ya'll can clown him/her all you want, but all the SWAC schools aren't reinvesting those dollars where they should.

Its the same with the playoffs. JSU competed better than most PWIs in the playoffs. Blowouts happen everywhere but HBCU football is the biggest stage in FCS football so more people see when it happens to us.

As much as I hated seeing La Tech get on us like that, I don't have 350,000 for Southern. I wish I did. And the young men who defend Blue and Gold do so with the knowledge that they will play in games like this and some, if not most, want to see how they measure up to these schools. I know my group is excited to go at Georgia later this month.

The fact is at one time, you couldn't have paid La. Tech, ULL, or ULM to schedule Southern. They took games like this from the Florida's and Oklahoma's and continued to push people to give and built themselves into what they are today. And now, we are supposed to run away from these because of how it makes us look? Keep running away from the hard stuff and we are going to be right where we are.

Either we put up or we shut up, plain and simple.

Hard stuff? There are no good teams in FCS to play?
